Nature Nerding: March 2013

http://naturenerding.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 18, 2013. Spring in the Okanagan. Sagebrush buttercup ( Ranunculus glaberrimus. Is out to welcome the sun. C and J enjoying some beach time. T and M on Kal lake. Some popular activities around here. Morning walk in PJ's. C brought James his boots and hat and insisted on some outside time. Baking a cake with Dad. Here, Cassia is helpfully holding the electrical cord. She is also very skilled at getting flour out of the flour jar and onto all surfaces, including the bakers. Is this thing on?

Nature Nerding: September 2014

http://naturenerding.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Getting ready for the roll. One zucchini plant a 2 week holiday. Too bad " sneak some zucchini onto your neighbour's porch day. Beaconhill Petting Zoo in Victoria. Bubblegum ice cream. I think this is C's way of avoiding sharing with us. It's a long drive to get to Hornby. note the 'mittens' (armrest covers for the carseat). Checking out the crabs and anemones at Sandpiper Beach. Caves at Ford Cove. Isla hanging with Zoe. Insect eggs on a oak leaf. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Nature Nerding: Scotland

http://naturenerding.blogspot.com/2015/04/scotland.html

Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Back in November we flew across the pond to spend some time in beautiful Scotland (Cassia will tell you how we took THREE planes to get there). I was lucky enough to get up Arthur's Seat on a sunny day. We headed out to Ardfern on the west coast to enjoy a weekend by the sea with great friends. Fun on the beach. It was Isla's 1/2 birthday (6 months), so Cassia made her a cake and sang her happy birthday. Ready for a family adventure. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Nature Nerding: April 2015

http://naturenerding.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 8, 2015. We headed to Mount Tamalplais state park for one more camping trip and discovered this gem of a campsite right by the sea. Well, actually they were out of campsites and we were forced to stay in a cabin. Cassia clapped with glee when we told her. The flowers were out in full bloom and I got busy with my camera. My love affair with California poppies continues. I nominate Pojar and Mackinnon. Plant guides organized by flower colour drive me batty. This kid is keen to climb. Isla ...

Gillatron: February 2015

http://gillatron.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a brand new family. Tuesday, February 10, 2015. So after our time in Kruger we were keen to get out and explore a little on our own. Having Kevin and Jen to show us all their favorite spots was great, but we wanted to see things through our touristy lens, and wallow around a little. Swaziland seemed like a good place to start. We rented a couple of cars, and with Bevil and Alex and their kids, went road-tripping. The life expectancy is 50. 1) pull up to border. 4) return to car and proceed ...

Snow Nerding: December 2010

http://snownerding.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 7 December 2010. North of Revelstoke they're plowing a logging road that gives you access to some superb terrain. There's not many people there, partly because you have to walk a little ways to get in there and partly because not too many people know about it. Did I mention that the cold temperature kept the snow really light and fluffy (and made my eyebrows frosty! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Actual link to actual updates.

Snow Nerding: Scotland

http://snownerding.blogspot.com/2010/09/scotland.html

Wednesday, 1 September 2010. I've been extremely lucky. After battling headwinds up through Carlisle and into Glasgow, the weather has turned fine, the wind has dropped and the vistas have become spectacular. I just happened to go past one of my favourite breweries: Loch Fyne Ales. I might have bought one (or five! Which was dutifully dispatched. Mmmm, Avalanche Ale. 2 September 2010 at 20:25. Mmm beer, have one for me! Love reading about your adventure and I hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Snow Nerding: October 2010

http://snownerding.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 October 2010. First Turns of the Season. Early season on McCrae Peak: slip-sliding up a sketchy logging road; slippery roots on the uptrack; flat light on the pocket glacier; first run rusty but the magic's still there; second time around cloud clears and the mountains open up; fun turns in creamy pow; scratchy descent back to the car. Keener people than us had got there first and the light was in and out, but great nonetheless. Watching out for rocks on the second pitch. There's a little bit ...

Gillatron: June 2012

http://gillatron.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a brand new family. Wednesday, June 27, 2012. John teaching the boys to balance. I love this photo of Tobin spotting Nick! Caught mid dam building. We were working outside and I asked "who wants to help me clean up? Expecting that one of them would carry the drill, and the other the screws. But of course they both lasered to the axe and pulaski. Followed by the sound of breaking glass and crashing hair product. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Asystole is the Most Stable Rhythm.

Gillatron: July 2012

http://gillatron.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a brand new family. Sunday, July 29, 2012. Christina lake and Mountain biking. Tobin and I rode Flowdown yesterday. This is the newest of our XC mountain bike trails in Revelstoke, and is 7km of super buff singletrack. He did so well! He styled all the bridges, rocky, off-camber sections and bermed corners. He was pretty proud of himself when we finished. Rightly so. Here's a little video of him riding and me following. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Asystole is the Most Stable Rhythm.

Gillatron: August 2012

http://gillatron.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Chronicles of a brand new family. Wednesday, August 8, 2012. My new favorite place. I managed to finally round up some partners and we headed to Goldbridge for three days this past weekend. We had a vague plan, a lot of power gels and granola bars, and enough ambition to survive whatever was encountered! The forecast for the weekend was for a high of 39 on Saturday, and 40 on Sunday! It was so hot! Swim in Hummingbird lake. *not warm*. Along past Trigger lake. Moses, stalking a deer. Love and Support for...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: March 2009

http://curmudgeonlybumbly.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. A couple of times. Over Christmas I was enthusiastically reporting the joys of the dawn patrol. I talked up the glories of the early morning starts, the sun rising over the mountains, and the fresh tracks before arriving at work at 10am. So you do this a lot? But I returned home to great roommates, who had the deep fryer bubbling with chicken drumsticks and fries. Hell yes! Monday, March 23, 2009. Last week saw me headed to Utah, for a ski vacation with the family. Let's ha...

Nature Nerding

Sunday, April 3, 2016. Actual link to actual updates. The real link to insta-nerding is here. We headed down for our third trip to California over spring break. Once again I took lots of flower shots. After landing in San Fran, we headed to the Pinnacles National Park. Much complaining about boring hiking - luckily it only lasted about 50 meters. California was hit by a lot of rain right before and as we arrived, so it was a lot lusher and greener than usual. Rain on a saxifrage. Froggy in the cave.
