Noel's Garden Blog: Updates - EU legislation and Oudolf meadow
http://noels-garden.blogspot.com/2013/12/updates-eu-legislation-and-oudolf-meadow.html
Various ramblings and musings on gardening, agriculture, food and related subjects. Sunday, December 1, 2013. Updates - EU legislation and Oudolf meadow. Two updates: one on the EU proposed legislation on plant cultivars, and the other on the perennial meadow at Hummelo. Miscanthus 'Yaku-jima', in our garden last week, a good small miscanthus, but still growing a lot bigger than it does with many - that high level of phosphorus in the soil i suppose! I have been comparing annual weather statistics betwee...

Classic sand garden, pool and borrowed scenery. Some of the greatest beauty is in the detail and finishing. Paving at the Katsura Palace. Like many traditional garden styles, plentiful labour is essential. Moss when it works, is wonderful. But very often it doesn't. Ryoanji - and its worshippers. Quite right...
Noel's Garden Blog: Getting the meadow cut - and why I hate sheep
http://noels-garden.blogspot.com/2015/07/getting-meadow-cut-and-why-i-hate-sheep.html
Various ramblings and musings on gardening, agriculture, food and related subjects. Monday, July 27, 2015. Getting the meadow cut - and why I hate sheep. At last we have gotten the meadow cut. This is an annual nightmare, as it is for a lot of other owners of small patches of grassland. In the end a local contractor, Phil, came to the rescue, borrowing a huge John Deere tractor and flail off a farmer friend to come and do it for us. We're very grateful! Whose mission statement declares "Our aim is to con...

Evely Ustavi aiajutud: jaanuar 2016
http://iluaed.blogspot.com/2016_01_01_archive.html
Linna aed: terrassi peenar. Valge peenra teine aasta. Valge pee...

the clay garden: May 2013
http://theclaygarden.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Country living in a council flat. Down the garden path. Path as it is - concrete and straight. Boring. I have a dilemma. I'm taking the next week off, and one of the many things I plan to do is dig up our old garden path, and put in a new one. I think I'm going to make it a brick one to match the house. I realise it's going to take me a lot longer than I think. And I think it's going to take me quite a long time. I'm in two minds - a curved path following roughly the same route? Gardening Through a Lens : September 2014
http://www.gardeningthroughalens.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Thoughts about photographing plants. And planting to photograph. Sunday, September 7, 2014. Cataract Surgery: It's REALLY BRIGHT out there! I had no idea I had cataracts until about 2 years ago when my optometrist informed me that they were starting to show up. Since, for most people, cataracts grow slowly, he told me I'd have nothing to worry about for several years. However, I am not most people, and mine responded like Creeping Buttercup on MiracleGro. My surgeries were done in July. What I've done he...
Gardening Through a Lens : November 2013
http://www.gardeningthroughalens.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thoughts about photographing plants. And planting to photograph. Thursday, November 7, 2013. And they're beautiful in their delicacy, the way the light breaks across the drops of water caught on the strands and splits into colors, the way strings of those drops drape like ropes of pearls: Nature's Flapper necklace. I think this might have been a red-flowering currant ( Ribes sanguineum. If I'd never seen this plant before, what would I look at first? Would it be the damage, the web? But I will see how it...
Gardening Through a Lens : Benched: Rethinking Gardens, Photography, and Blogging
http://www.gardeningthroughalens.com/2015/06/benched-rethinking-gardens-photography.html
Thoughts about photographing plants. And planting to photograph. Thursday, June 25, 2015. Benched: Rethinking Gardens, Photography, and Blogging. Bodnant Garden, North Wales. Garden Path at Snowshill Manor in The Cotswolds. While I learned a lot and improved a lot, I found myself taking way too many shots of gravel, tree bark, doors, and hands planting flowers with lots of space to the left or right. I also spent too much time staring at noise, pixels, and things I had no names for and couldn't see a...

Digging in the Dirt: April 2015
http://embersgarden.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
CLICK ON IMAGES FOR LARGER PHOTO. Saturday, April 18, 2015. Saturday in the yard. Had a good day working in the yard. Uncovering perennials and already fighting the creeping Charlie. Edged the rose bed after spreading manure on the roses and the asparagus. Asparagus is already 3 feet tall if you can see it. The creeping Jenny and 'Big Ears' Stachys surprised me with how good they look together. The 'Elegantissima' Red Twig Dogwood is also super pretty. Isn't this Columbine beautiful! I love these Pansies!

Various ramblings and musings on gardening, agriculture, food and related subjects. Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Australian plants amaze, astonish and confuse. The stunning landscape installation by Kate Cullity at the Cranbourne Botanic Garden, Melbourne, evokes the Australian Outback. Shortly before I met Warwick, I had been in Spain and met Miguel Urquijo. I fear perhaps not. And then Kuranga Nursery. Was a memorable one. For me it was a meeting with old friends. And a few spider plants. Looking at th...
