Sewing away in Thailand
Notionally Better: October 2014
http://notionallybetter.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, 25 October 2014. Yep, H's shirt is finally done. As I mentioned in the blog hop post, just about everything that could go wrong with this did go wrong. I have sewn just about everything twice (at least). So first, the finished product. I probably could have ironed it before I photographed it. But it is linen so this is probably how it will usually look anyway. So what went wrong? By La Sewista before starting on the shirt and I wouldn't have had this problem. Also after reading that post I ...
Notionally Better: Celebration!
http://notionallybetter.blogspot.com/2014/11/celebration.html
Tuesday, 11 November 2014. Last Thursday was Loy kratong, which is one of my favourite Thai celebrations. You can read more about it here. But basically you float kratongs down the river and release khom loy into the air. It is truly beautiful to see. I didn't take any pictures (which was rather neglectful of me) so I have shamelessly stolen some from my friend (but I'm sure she won't mind). These are kratongs which are all handmade from natural materials. Colours will make up for it. Because if you are ...
Notionally Better: Barb skirt
http://notionallybetter.blogspot.com/2014/11/barb-skirt.html
Saturday, 8 November 2014. Yes, you did read that right. Maybe you remember that I made these as a muslin for my Barb. Well, it turns out that I don't actually have much use for bright red shorts. But it seems I do have a use for a bright red skirt. Although it looks bright pink and no amount of colour correcting works unless I'm bright green. So pink it is. So a quick and easy alteration and a new favourite skirt. It also works well with the Black Thai Affair. Labels: Style Arc Barb. I have recently red...
Notionally Better: May 2014

Thursday, 22 May 2014. Going Global;Going Thai. Don't you love Project Sewn? I really admire the participants in the official competition but also really like seeing what all the participants in the sew along do. But it has never before occurred to me to participate myself. Until this time. As soon as I saw the Going Global theme, I knew exactly what I was going to make; the country, the design and the fabric. So this is what I came up with. (yes, I drafted it myself:). Did you notice my sewn-on godet?

Oh No! | Sewsirius' Blog
https://sewsirius1.wordpress.com/2013/11/05/oh-no
November 5, 2013. How to repair the damage? I want to wear these again, quickly! The seam was then sewn on the side not interfaced. My intention was to have two strips of interfacing on each side of the seam to give full support, by sewing one seam before adding the strip to the other side I had a guide for sewing the second side! The interfacing was applied to the other side the same way and the seam sewn again. Fixed and so easy too! Posted in My Sewing Room. Laquo; A Productive Weekend of Sewing.
Sew Much More...: Creating a Capsule Wardrobe from a Goldhawk Road Visit
http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2016/10/creating-capsule-wardrobe-from-goldhawk.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Monday, 17 October 2016. Creating a Capsule Wardrobe from a Goldhawk Road Visit. Oh if I'd only stopped after a couple but with so much choice, what was a girl to do? These pictures will give you a little bit of the flavour and how exciting the whole day was for us. In fact I forgot to take any more pics after these as I needed both hands for touching and feeling the fabrics except for this one below. Later in the day and in other...
Sew Much More...: Tunics - What a super garment!
http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2016/10/tunics-what-super-garment.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Saturday, 22 October 2016. Tunics - What a super garment! I decided on a lilac cotton lace with a scalloped border which brought about its own challenges. Firstly, with no hems to the body or sleeves I had to work out the lengths exactly so that the scallops were at the correct position - no room for error. I have made many mistakes on my sewing journey and I always get annoyed at having to undo bits after construction but finding...
Sew Much More...: Pin stripe trousers and peacock feathers
http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2016/12/pin-stripe-trousers-and-peacock-feathers.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Sunday, 18 December 2016. Pin stripe trousers and peacock feathers. I am today showing you my latest pair of 'smart' trousers and a blouse I made a few weeks back that I never got round to blogging about. I faced the pockets with fabric and made the pockets from some scrap cotton that was once a duvet cover! I had the peacock feather fabric in my stash for some time and I can't remember where I bought it although it was probably i...

Sew Much More...: June 2016
http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Thursday, 23 June 2016. In my last post I showed you my Tangerine Jeans. And promised a Western Style Shirt to go with them - well here it is. I took the comment by Loren to have a shoulder seam and to Glenda to cut the fronts in one and overlay the front yoke piece. Both of these ideas worked and created the finish I was after, thank you. The yokes were easy to press the seam allowance under because it was a stretch fabric and ha...
Sew Much More...: December 2015
http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Tuesday, 8 December 2015. I had a discount code for Abakhan Fabrics. And chose a random bundle of decor fabrics as I am keen to increase my bag sewing skills. It meant I would have to use it to make myself a new bag. I found a great pattern and video class by Betz White at a new site for me, creativebug.com. This is my version. I am so pleased with the results especially as it is roomy enough to use when I next go fabric shopping&...
Sew Much More...: A Wallet
http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2016/10/a-wallet.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Wednesday, 5 October 2016. I'm so sorry I haven't uploaded any new blogs for a while but it isn't because I haven't been sewing, it's more because I haven't taken any photos of me wearing them. I promise I'll do it soon and catch up but meanwhile I can show you my latest make - a wallet. As you can see I used the fabric that I had left over from the bag I made some time ago so it matches nicely. 5 October 2016 at 19:02. I hope the...

http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2016_10_01_archive.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Saturday, 29 October 2016. Fleece Jacket that doesn't deserve a Blog. Looking back over the last three years of my sewing journey and I can see I've made huge improvements but the fact is that lately I seem to have regressed and fallen foul of mistakes I shouldn't be making any more. How can this happen? The cutting out to my well tried and fitted pattern went well and starting the sewing was no problem either. Then I got to t...
Sew Much More...: March 2016
http://jellybeanjan.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html
My sewing and other journey's by Jan Brown. Australian Adventure - Week 1. Monday, 28 March 2016. Making trousers look more feminine. I needed some grey fabric to go with one or two tops in my wardrobe so during a recent visit to Axminster in Dorset, I found just what I was looking for in a quaint little shop that was so full it was like an Aladdin's cave. I bought 1.5 metres but once I got my purchase home I had a slight re-think. Did it look too much like a man's suiting fabric? I took the design and p...

Notionalism
Notionalism - A doctrine of disputing groundless opinions (Harrison, 2004). Tuesday, August 01, 2006. Head butts and No buts. If I watched 15 minutes of the games, I'd be surprised, and it would have been more accidental than intentional. Thank Zeus, it's like presidential campaigns and it only occurs on a 4-year cycle. Anyway, France is dancing. To an odd tune this summer. Coup de Boule. Head Butt). I haven't a clue what they're singing, other than: Zindane struck, we blew the cup. Friday, June 30, 2006.

Ma famille d'accueil dont Adely était la mère me foutais à la porte, à la rue, sans rien. Et tout ça pourquoi? Notionally Better
Tuesday, 9 December 2014. I've just posted this over at my new address. Http:/ notionallybetter.wordpress.com/. Like many others I was very excited to see Style Arc release this pattern and I am very pleased to say that it has lived up to expectation. As a a comparison here are the Barbs next to the Flos so that you can see just how much less fabric there is under the bum. I used gold topstitching thread on the yoke, waist seam, pockets and side seams. So if you’re flat bottomed I can’t recomm...Links to ...
