Not Quite Rural

Living and Eating in the Exurbs. Monday, July 07, 2008. Clearly, my life has changed. The baby is kicking my ass in a number of ways. After a fatal bullying incident that soured us on birds forever, the chickens have found a new home. I have a new job, no time, and haven't had an unbroken night of sleep in 15 months. And I have a new blog. Posted by Anna at 11:16 AM. Monday, October 09, 2006. Green leaf lettuce recall. Reason #581 to shop at the farmers' market:. Posted by Anna at 3:00 PM. The master pla...

Not Quite Rural: Unexpected guest

http://notquiterural.blogspot.com/2006/09/unexpected-guest.html

Living and Eating in the Exurbs. Wednesday, September 27, 2006. What is it the Japanese say about guests and fish? Well, it’s been three months, and it is just starting not to stink. Our guest dropped in without warning, with teetotaling ways that put the kibosh on cocktails. And all the fresh tomatoes and peppers in the garden totally out of the question. In fact, even entering the kitchen has been fraught with puking possibilities. But we do know this: He’s our kid, so he is going to turn out weird.

Not Quite Rural: 14 weeks pregnant

http://notquiterural.blogspot.com/2006/10/14-weeks-pregnant.html

Living and Eating in the Exurbs. Sunday, October 08, 2006. In the last week, I've made macaroni and cheese with bechamel sauce, gnocchi (storebought, I'm human) with pesto (fresh, absolutely), pasta topped with bacon, countless apples topped with peanut butter, pancakes smothered in yogurt (twice), a bagel and cream cheese, potato foccacia, and an apple/cranberry pie with strusel topping. And this is only the beginning. Other slice of pie, and I can maybe put it off until we pass deadline.

Not Quite Rural: April 2006

http://notquiterural.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html

Living and Eating in the Exurbs. Tuesday, April 18, 2006. All Summer in a Day. After nearly 80 inches of rain and scattered snow, we finally see the that unfamiliar ball of light in the sky. And I am stuck inside, glued to the computer, working. I'm like Margot in that Ray Bradbury story, trapped in a closet while all her playmates raise their faces to the sun. Posted by Anna at 2:48 PM. Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Any guesses as to which one of us regularly forgot to close the chicken coop up at night?

Not Quite Ripley | why Anal Cancer is a pain in the bum

Why Anal Cancer is a pain in the bum. Eulogy to Deb: This is Ripley, Signing Off. August 30, 2015. The beautiful eulogy given by Beverly Edgington at Deb’s Funeral on 10 June, 2015, inspired by the words of remembrance of her friends, family and acquaintances, seems a fitting way to conclude the ‘Not Quite Ripley’ blog:. And from that a great friendship was born! And the rest, as they say, is History. We are the epitome of the Holiday Romance that worked. Dolly, a girl about town from North Londo...I cou...

Not Quite Scilly

Tuesday, 10 January 2017. Murder on the Common. Anyway, all I can say is that over the years I have shared this episode with very few, because I'm not proud of it, and yet now for some reason I am doing quite the opposite. The story begins with a green parrot in the tree outside my window in early May. I could identify many birds, but had no idea what this was. Surely an aviary escape? As well as what else I could expect to see in and around the grounds of our hall of residence. Roding Woodcock. In that ...
