Ordinary Adventure 2006

Thursday, July 5, 2007. Davenport Gap to Clingmans Dome (Smokies) - End of 2007 Hike. What a difference a couple days can make.  Just days ago we were planning on pushing ourselves to get to Springer on a particular day, still over 200 miles away.  At this point, we've left the trail for the season. The knee pain that Anna developed on our fast hike after the picnic on Max Patch seems to have come back with a vengeance.  . We slowly made it another mile or so to the shelter just below Clingman's Dome and...

Ordinary Adventure 2006: Going back to the AT!

http://ordinaryadventure2006.blogspot.com/2007/06/going-back-to-at.html

Friday, June 1, 2007. Going back to the AT! It's hot and muggy in New York, but our plans are swiftly moving us back to the hotter south where another 550 miles of our beloved trail await our steps. We picked an early August date of this year for the wedding. The only thing we could think more appropriate to do before the wedding was to finish the trail that had brought us together. So now we have now decided to hike from Atkins, VA to Springer Mt between June 5th and mid July! Slideshow of AT 06-08.

Ordinary Adventure 2006: November 2006

http://ordinaryadventure2006.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 7, 2006. Pearisburg to Atkins, VA. This entry is a long time coming. It's incredibly hard to write a concluding journal when you're not finished with the trail. That was a long story to recount, but it was probably the most frightening experience on the trail for me. In all the other scary parts (crossing Saddleback in cold and rain, crossing the swollen streams in Maine, the snakes, etc) we were together and had each other to help us get through. With the shortening daylight, getting 2...

Ordinary Adventure 2006: June 2006

http://ordinaryadventure2006.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 26, 2006. Caratunk to Stratton, ME. Half a day in rainy Stratton:. After our stay at the resort in Caratunk we crossed the Kennebec River on the canoe ferry. The ferryman was very kind and quite the story-teller. He's been ferrying hikers for 17 years across the only river that the ATC has deemed unfordable. We've now met about 10 northbounders who've come from Georgia. They say that southern Maine is pretty tough with a 4000 peak nearly every day. Now that we are headed for the higher mount...

Ordinary Adventure 2006: August 2006

http://ordinaryadventure2006.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 28, 2006. Palwing, NY to Vernon, NJ. We are now in Vernon, NJ, at a hostel the Episcopal church runs in their basement. It's extremely comfortable and has all the right amenities (laundry, shower, internet, tv/movies, etc). We got here on Friday night soaked from a day's worth of heavy rain. This was the first rain we had walked in since on top of Mt. Washington (we were getting spoiled! And he offered us all kinds of food from his truck which he keeps stocked for hikers he meets along the...

Ordinary Adventure 2009: March 2009

http://ordinaryadventure2009.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 21, 2009. Time has flown by this Winter/Spring. All the sudden I've got just a couple weeks of work left and a lot of food to box up. Looking back, we've got most of our "gear" and a lot of food stashed in the pantry, we have guidebooks on their way, and our flight West is set. Now we just have to get everything, our apartment and belongings as well as all the adventure supplies, in order and head out. Can't wait to be living life on the trail. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Ordinary Adventure 2009: May 2009

http://ordinaryadventure2009.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 30, 2009. Its 6:30 in the evening and were already into camp. We have a few extra hours of daylight to wash our feet (with wet ones) and journal. Since we left Big Bear weve been hiking with Monologue, a nice woman in her early 30s who hiked the AT northbound in 2006. We know we met her that year on the trail but were still trying to figure out where. Oh yeah, and one of them is in his mid-60s. It put us in awe, for sure. Http:/ ordinaryadventure2009.blogspot.com. Ordinary Adventure 2009: On trail incident

http://ordinaryadventure2009.blogspot.com/2009/07/on-trail-incident.html

Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Just wanted to fill everyone in on what happened out on the trail that made us cut our trip short. On Saturday afternoon, she sneezed hard and a wave of pain hit her which she delt with the rest of the day and soreness into Sunday morning. After eating a big lunch on Sunday and having drank quite a bit of water she got up from lunch and the pain was overwhelming. The silver lining to the whole ordeal was being able to spend an evening in Truckee with Michelle, a really nice sect...

Monday, December 8, 2008. Preliminary Resupply Schedule for PCT2009. Below is a basic preliminary resupply strategy for the PCT I put together this morning. It outlays how we will most likely be getting our food for the trip. Stops where we mail a resupply, we will box up food either before we leave for the trip in May, or on the trail in a town with a large supermarket and easily accessable mail service like Ashland, OR. Location (PCT Mile, Distance to next, Days to next) Method of resupply. Castella - ...

Ordinary Adventure 2009: Sugar!

http://ordinaryadventure2009.blogspot.com/2009/07/sugar.html

Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Im now convinced that in the last two weeks I have become addicted to Tang, the sugar based drink mix. I have been drinking a liter of it for breakfast each day as it reminds me of orange juice and gives me a huge energy boost for the start of the day. But that once a day habit quickly snowballed into two or three liters per day. It is just so makes drinking water such a pleasure and doesnt leave a buildup of coloring on my lips like the On-The-Go Crystal Light packets.

And, she even makes her little stuffed friends join in. Last night she made her funny stuffed animal mouse, adoringly named Squeaky, fold his miniature hands during family prayer. Then she starts mumbling cute things in her prayer voice—soft, even, tender. I love this baby SOO much and I’m constantly surprised by h...
