Sunday, May 11, 2008. December 1887 saw the birth of the horse-drawn tramway in Ballarat, a new form of public transport that was to garner many a fan from the public throughout it's existence until 1902, owned and operated by the Ballarat Tramways Company Ltd . The horse trams were double-decker models that could park 44 bums on seats with 150 horses to haul the favoured conveyance around the Ballarat streets. The last day had large crowds of people, a brass band and the local radio station witness the ...

Lost & Found: Codrington - where bushranging is honoured in a town that never was.

http://ourgreatsouthernlandlostfound.blogspot.com/2008/11/codrington-where-bushranging-is.html

Sunday, November 2, 2008. Codrington - where bushranging is honoured in a town that never was. If you're tootling down the Princes Hwy to Portland you'll pass through an area called Codrington. There are a few houses there, set well back from the road, but no bustling, busy service town. Nothing but paddocks, trees, grass, cows, paddocks, more cows, and a few more trees. After Port Fairy and Yambuk but before Portland. That's the long stretch of countryside I mean! Don't fret, he was the one who got away).

NB Those pretty colours are links to photos and websites.go explore them, there will be an *exam on this later. Have you gone mad? Rhetorical question, of course I'm mad). Homebush is in NSW. Once upon a time a bajillion years ago I parked my carcass in a little area outside Bendigo (Vic) known as Junortoun. Which, until just 20 years earlier, had been called.Homebush. It had hosted a Homebush gold rush.

Lost & Found: Laura and Charles Ferguson Museum in Mentone

http://ourgreatsouthernlandlostfound.blogspot.com/2008/08/laura-and-charles-ferguson-museum-in.html

Monday, August 18, 2008. Laura and Charles Ferguson Museum in Mentone. Going tell you about this brilliant little museum tucked away in Old Bakery Lane, behind Mentone Parade, in Mentone. I was also going to tell you that it has some fantastic items on display, is rich in resources and is quite an eye-opener of what our urban beaches once looked like. Another thing I was. But Feral Beast has beaten me to the punch and blogged about the museum HERE. Labels: Laura and Charles Ferguson Museum. Robert O'Hara...

http://thechroniclesofferalbeast.blogspot.com/2008/10/history-of-sorrento.html

Our Great Southern Land. The Chronicles of Feral Beast. The history of Sorrento. Posted by Feral Beast in history. Today I'm going to do the history of Sorrento. Sorrento is found 112 click's from Melbourne or 90 mins in a car. Sorrento's founding father was not Lieutenant-Governor David Collins who established a convict Settlement to stop the French settling there, in 1803, at Sullivan Bay. Then in 1872, George Selth Coppin made Sorrento into a real seaside town and he was the Founding Father of Sorrento.

The Chronicles of Feral Beast: Volcanoes

http://thechroniclesofferalbeast.blogspot.com/2010/05/volcanoes.html

Our Great Southern Land. The Chronicles of Feral Beast. Posted by Feral Beast in geography. Today I'm going to talk about how volcanoes have effected people through the ages, from the recent Icelandic volcano to the lesser known facts about the Krakatoa volcano. First of all I am going to talk about the recently erupted Iceland volcano. It is the tiny particles of this volcanic glass that is the reason for all of the planes to be grounded. Well, the answer is, no. And so that is why the Icelandic volcano...

The Chronicles of Feral Beast: Yesterday

Our Great Southern Land. The Chronicles of Feral Beast. Posted by Feral Beast in gem club. Today I'm going to talk about what I did yesterday. Yesterday morning I got up early to catch the bus to Russian school ( at around 7 o'clock! When I got there I realized I had slept in and arrived late. Edit from Mum -*snort* what gave you that idea.the three wake up calls, the nagging or the sun well over the horizon? After lunch we had to play something like Simon says, but in Russian of course! The Chronicles of Feral Beast: The Scottish play

http://thechroniclesofferalbeast.blogspot.com/2010/05/scottish-play.html

Our Great Southern Land. The Chronicles of Feral Beast. Posted by Feral Beast in history. Hello, today I'm going to talk about the little known facts about*ahem* Macbeth! The reason why I'm going to talk about Macbeth (yes I said it again so sue me) is because Mum has been getting me to read the book about it (and I might add that I like it). She also wants me to write up about the history of Mac- "The Scottish Play" for my blog. And so Macbeth won the crown after he slayed Duncan Bothgowanan in 1040.

The Chronicles of Feral Beast: Map Makers

http://thechroniclesofferalbeast.blogspot.com/2010/05/map-makers.html

Our Great Southern Land. The Chronicles of Feral Beast. Posted by Feral Beast in history. Today I have watched a TV show on the History Channel about the maps from the 15 th. In this show they explained about how modern map making came to be and how and why America was named and found. This also explained about the medieval maps and views about the world. What I especially loved about this program was that it talked about the maps and the information surrounding these maps in great detail.
