No Farther Than Seattle

No Farther Than Seattle. Where is Jim now? You Can't Get There From Here. The forecast was for good weather yesterday and today, so I gave up my life of gluttony on Whidbey Island and set out for home. Yesterday brought me to Meadowdale Park, my 100th campsite of the journey. Looking back at my current tables, it looks like I had jotted down the current prediction for September 12 rather than October 12, and the period of slack current had ended well before I reached the pass. The other kaykers took off ...

No Farther Than Seattle: Whidbey Island

http://www.paddlesouth.blogspot.com/2008/10/whidbey-island.html

No Farther Than Seattle. Where is Jim now? As soon as the weather forecast looks a bit better, I'll be off for the final few miles between here and home. Much as I've loved this journey, being so close to home is shifting my mind back to my other life back in civilization, and I'm ready to get back and resume that life. Good to know you are still heading south. Wondered a couple days there. We have been home from Ketchikan since Sep. 2. October 16, 2008 at 6:44 PM. October 17, 2008 at 8:20 AM.

No Farther Than Seattle: June 2008

http://www.paddlesouth.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

No Farther Than Seattle. Where is Jim now? I was all set to get up at 4:00 am today to paddle across the Mendenhall Bar into Juneau at high tide like I have read is necessary. But I met a local who has lots of kayaking experience who reassured me that there's enough water for a kayak to get through at any time. He says they even run kayak races through it at low tide. So I slept in and got a leisurely start. This morning the M/V Fairweather, one of the new high-speed ferries on the Alaska Marine Highway,...

No Farther Than Seattle: Wind

http://www.paddlesouth.blogspot.com/2008/10/wind.html

No Farther Than Seattle. Where is Jim now? Our laughter subsided after we returned to our tents, the winds picked up and branches started falling from the trees. There were a few large crashes during the night, which we suspect were entire tree trunks snapping. The other kaykers took off this morning, but shortly after they left the winds picked up again, and I decided to take a rest day. It was intermittently windy all day, and I was glad to be off the water. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

No Farther Than Seattle: August 2008

http://www.paddlesouth.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

No Farther Than Seattle. Where is Jim now? I got my boat fixed and bummed a ride back to where I was when it got damaged. Eager to get moving, I paddled a bit more than 27 miles today. That's a new record for me. I've been around Prince Rupert and Oona River for a while now, buying food, fixing a problem with my boat and waiting out a storm. I finally got away to continue south on Thursday. That night on Pitt Island, while I was hanging my food to keep it safe from bears, I had a little incident. After a...

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz: May 2008

http://dodgemagic.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz. Friday, May 30, 2008. Day 18 – May 29. Left Meyers Chuck about 11:00am headed for Blashke Island. Water isn’t too bad this morning but not as calm as yesterday. Sunny overcast weather. Saw one whale. Think it was a Fin Back but not sure. No photo as I could not move fast enough and it only surfaced a couple times. Poked out nose into Coffman Cove just to see what was there. A fishing lodge, a small community complete with ferry dock, and seaplane float. Directl...

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz: Swanson Harbor

http://dodgemagic.blogspot.com/2013/08/swanson-harbor.html

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz. Thursday, August 8, 2013. July 6 - Swanson Harbor. We docked in Swanson Harbor at a dock that is just anchored in the bay. Swanson is about 10 miles east of Glacier Bay. Glen took Debbie and Robert for a long dinghy ride to Hoonah to see if they would have the zip line open. Nope only open on days when the cruise ships come to town. So no need to go to Hoonah this year. Katie, the Jung's daughter picked a bunch of 'Beach Asparagus'. Miners Alaska Trip Blog.

http://dodgemagic.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz. Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Day 108 – August 26. It was a foggy cool morning with the tide out. The water is much calmer than last night. The guys, Gary, Glen, and Webster went out to check the crab pots … the crabs won yet another round. It’s somewhat nice to see that the Miner’s and Dodge’s are not the only ones lousy at this fishing stuff. We can now officially add the Cummings to our fish/crabless club. Glen and I stayed aboard Magic for a lazy morning.

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz. Monday, July 28, 2008. Day 79 – July 28. It was partly sunny when I woke up this morning, but by the time Glen got up it was raining; not hard but raining none the less. We pulled anchor and headed out. We had a long cruise of about 6 miles ahead of us this morning. Not long later we tied to a dock in Port Hardy and met up with the Miner’s. We all walked into town and did the walking tour ending at the local café for some fish and chips. Day 78 – July 27. In th...

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz. Sunday, May 26, 2013. Anchored and stern tied at the end of the bay not too far from the dock. Not sure who was ready first but there seemed to be a mad dash for the hot springs. All but Liz went in for a dip (not feeling well with chest cold), but she was the photographer and lifeguard. Lifeguard is necessary to make sure that the beverage glasses stay full from the pitcher of Margarita's that went along. A seafood feast for sure. Geoduck chowder is great!

Magic Moments - Adventures of Glen and Liz. Friday, July 5, 2013. Onward toward Glacier Bay. Onward toward Glacier Bay. We are heading out early this morning toward Glacier Bay. We will not have internet or phone access for a while now so communications will be tough. I've tried to get as much work done as I could while in Juneau but I'm still not done.
