Saturday, October 15, 2011. Hitting close to home. I just stumbled onto this and found it depressingly funny - I don't know about you guys, but this has basically been my life over the past 6 years or so. Just for the record, I can't say I'm much of a fan of that "those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it" phrase. See more Funny Graphs. Posted by Mr. Flattery. Saturday, August 6, 2011. Period Inappropriate: The Problem with Civil War Handguns

http://period-inappropriate.blogspot.com/2011/03/downsides-to-civil-war-handguns.html

Wednesday, March 9, 2011. The Problem with Civil War Handguns. One question about the Civil War that I get quite often from people (my dad, for one) pertains to the use of revolving pistols. In movies like Gettysburg. We see the officers blasting away with their pistols and the question often arises: if it can shoot so quickly, why weren't all the soldiers issued a sidearm? Whether or not a particular soldier was accurate. Becomes difficult to reload once you fire your six shots. March 10, 2011 at 5:38 AM.

Wednesday, March 23, 2011. A Mess of Things. Someone please hit me over the head and put me out of my misery. My thoughts are spinning 'round and 'round, swirling in a vortex filled with floor cloths, dress designs, domestic manuals, oil lamps, stone churches and chickens. Yes, chickens. I feel a slight panic attack coming on. Again, someone please knock me out! Posted by Mrs. Flattery. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. The Problem with Civil War Handguns. Her Heart In History: Lilac Striped Maternity Dress - DONE!

http://herheartinhistory.blogspot.com/2012/09/lilac-striped-maternity-dress-done.html

Her Heart In History. Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Lilac Striped Maternity Dress - DONE! I finished my Lilac Striped Maternity dress in time for our late-June event. It was a dream to wear! So light and airy! The temperatures were very warm that weekend (though there was a nice breeze, fortunately) and I was perfectly comfortable all weekend! The dress has a half-high lining and v-neck to maximize the coolness of the fabric. The idea for the sleeves came from an auction site. I think, now that I'm not ...

Her Heart In History: Planning the Lilac Striped Maternity Dress

http://herheartinhistory.blogspot.com/2012/05/planning-lilac-striped-maternity-dress.html

Her Heart In History. Monday, May 21, 2012. Planning the Lilac Striped Maternity Dress. With my new-found motivation to sew again, I find myself ready to think about sewing my maternity dress out of the lovely FFC Hydrangea Striped Lawn. The same one that Sarah Meister made up into her lovely saque and petticoat. I think Lilac Striped Lawn is a more appropriate name for color, though. ;) Whatever you want to call it, it's a LOVELY fabric! Here is what I'm planning at this point:. I am a young wife and mo...

Her Heart In History. Saturday, June 4, 2011. First Event of the 2011 Season. Well, we have officially kicked off the 2011 season! We had our first event last weekend. 6 years ago it was my very first event. I bought my first dress there- pretty farby, but not bad for a beginning (at least it was a one piece dress! It is what it is! Elsa loved our friend's dulcimer! She just loves any kind of music! The weather was pretty darn good! Especially, considering how wet this Spring has been! My mom and E.

Her Heart In History. Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Little Girl's Corded Sunbonnet. E's corded sunbonnet is done! I downsized my sunbonnet pattern that I drafted (based on Duchess Martin's sunbonnet) and curved the front in inspiration of this original woman's sunbonnet:. Completed Corded Brim (before assembly). I made the back of the crown with an adjustable casing for 1/4" twill tape that I can use to adjust to her head/neck and it also make ironing the crown easier. Links to this post. Her Heart In History: New Corset!

http://herheartinhistory.blogspot.com/2012/09/new-corset.html

Her Heart In History. Saturday, September 29, 2012. I've finally completed a corset for myself! I've actually never successfully made a regular corset for myself (I did successfully make a gestational corset for myself)! I've successfully made corsets for my mom and sister and a few years ago I attempted to make myself a corset and it was an UTTER failure! My mom had lost a lot of weight and so we decided to swap corsets which worked really well for me for a while- still working well for her! I started o...

I used Sarah Meister's. Sack coat pattern (thank you, SO much, again, Sarah! I took apart an old modern coat for the wool that I had on hand and I used stash-buttons, so it didn't cost this Scotch girl anything! He's so much fun to sew for because he loves it so much when I make stuff for him! September 28, 2012 at 5:54 PM. Lilac ...

Her Heart In History: February 2011

http://herheartinhistory.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Her Heart In History. Monday, February 28, 2011. A fresh white collar is one of the fastest. Ways to spruce up your impression. In my opinion, not. Directions and you'll have a lovely collar that you can wear in good health. Double layer collars are way over-represented at reenactments, so I like to use single layer construction for my collars. What do you like to use for collars? Do you even wear a collar? If not, why not? Do you wear anything at your neck? Further reading (Sewing Academy threads):.
