The Philly Food Feed: A Legend in Their Own Lunchtime

http://phillyfoodfeed.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-legend-in-their-own-lunchtime.html

Friday, March 15, 2013. A Legend in Their Own Lunchtime. It has been some time since I have updated this blog. While I have been busy managing the Rittenhouse Farmers' Market and getting the Far Northeast's first Farmers' Market off the ground, there really is no excuse. I'm just a lazy locavore. Last year Chef Andy Bates visited Philadelphia from across the pond and highlighted Philadelphia's local street food scene for an episode of his Food Network UK series - Andy Bates American Street Feasts. We her...

The Philly Food Feed: The Markets Are Back!!!

http://phillyfoodfeed.blogspot.com/2012/05/markets-are-back.html

Tuesday, May 8, 2012. The Markets Are Back! The aforementioned radishes are only some of the offerings we found at Chestnut Hill. They came courtesy of Taproot Farm. Taproot wasn't the only farm flexing farmer muscle. This army below marched in from the Rineer Family Farm. Remember when I said we came away full? Everything at Lucky Old Souls. Is housemade. Everything. The burgers? Of course, housemade. The bacon? Housemade. The ketchup? Their L.O.S. sauce? So there you have it. We are looking forward...

Green Beans from Rineer Family Farms. Even more from the Rineer market table. Greens Galore from Taproot Farm. Beets to the beat of the band from Taproot. Another view of Taproot's table. George from Taproot shows off some colossal Collards. Thanks for commenting on The Philly Food Feed! The Philly Food Feed Farmer...

The Philly Food Feed: June 2009

http://phillyfoodfeed.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 27, 2009. A Visit to the Philadelphia City Hall Farmer's Market. When Ben posted about the opening of a Farmers Market being held every Wednesday at Philadelphia’s City Hall I was instantly intrigued. I immediately commented practically begging Ben to go and report back on what it was like. Ben's response was that I should go and report on it and I will be forever grateful for that suggestion. The main stand that caught our attention was representing the McCann Farm. Links to this post.

PHILLY TREES: May 2013

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Monday, May 27, 2013. I grew up in this house. This isn’t a particularly original thought but, boy, it sure looks a lot smaller than I remember. . It’s also missing some trees. There used to be larger roses and more evergreen shrubs guarding the walkway to the front door.  There used to be a dwarf pear tree and a rose of sharon on the driveway side of the house. On the other side of the house, there used to be a sour cherry tree. . Contrary to popular b...

PHILLY TREES: PHILLY FIRST BLOSSOM FRONT

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2014/04/philly-first-blossom-front_7.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Monday, April 7, 2014. PHILLY FIRST BLOSSOM FRONT. Citybillies, it’s confession time. The rumors are true. I’ve sold out. Jon Spruce has officially signed on the dotted line. For two years now, I have meticulously and courageously hunted down and archived the kingdom of Philly trees but, behind the scenes, hidden from view, I’ve been bombarded and assaulted with endless requests for sponsorship. All asking for a piece of the pie. It means flower viewing.

PHILLY TREES: June 2013

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Monday, June 24, 2013. TREES ON THE ROAD. There I was, enjoying the daylights out of these long, long days of June, reading the local paper in the backyard of my urban cabin, when a headline caught my eye:. Wildman Throws Spear at Passing Vehicle in California. It’s been a while but here we have our first sighting of the Wildman for 2013, timed perfectly to the first super-moon of summer. Ain’t that just like Coyote? Surrounded by the New England mass m...

PHILLY TREES: August 2013

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Tuesday, August 27, 2013. BEECH READINGS, PART TWO. I got a bad feeling about this. I was climbing down the rocky slopes towards the Catfish Creek when I caught sight of this brown pod…. 8230;attached to a branch of that scrub chestnut oak. It just plucked off, right into my hand, a snap of the fingers. It had almost no weight to it.  I carried it in a loose fist towards the beach…. 8230;and laid it out on the big rock for a little alien autopsy. 8230;I...

PHILLY TREES: October 2013

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Tuesday, October 8, 2013. PHILLY FALL and THE FERNHILL FRUIT. Now, where was I? That’s right, it’s autumn here in Philadelphia. Now, how does that quote go again, the one about autumn? 160; Think, Jon Spruce.  Who was it again? That’s right, it was Albert Camus, the French philosopher.  Now, he was an absurdist but don’t worry, Donny, there’s nothing to be afraid of. Every now and then, even an absurdist is worth listening to. 160; He was right.

PHILLY TREES: July 2013

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Thursday, July 18, 2013. THE STRONG SUN MOON. It’s a jungle out there. The city is stewing.  The streets are roasting.  The roof is on fire. . Baby, it’s hot outside, during these final days of the Strong Sun Moon. Citybillies, take cover wherever you can. This is not my weather of choice, this is not my season.  After all, I am an Elk of the Thunderbird Clan, born under the Long Snow Moon of mid-Decembertime, but I refuse to stay inside. 8230;with show...

PHILLY TREES: May 2014

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Friday, May 16, 2014. HANGING UP THE HAT. Here in Philadelphia, there are trees and then there are trees. On this particular day, I was hunting for the first kind of tree. It goes by the name of mountain laurel. 160; It’ll never be the biggest tree in the woods.  It’ll never be the kind of tree that shows up on the nightly news but I’ve been on the lookout for mountain laurel for weeks now. That’s French for a violent rush of water. The big trees, they ...

PHILLY TREES: January 2014

http://phillytrees.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Skylines and treelines. The Philadelphia UnderStory. Tuesday, January 14, 2014. I woke up this morning and immediately checked my surroundings for any subtle, mysterious changes. Same old urban cabin. Same old Jon Spruce. Crawling out of the warm blankets, I shivered over to the kitchen window. Looked like the coast was clear and, although I wasn’t completely sure that the Code Blue had been lifted, it looked like it was safe to go outside again. For a vortex, this was a pretty weak one, by all accounts.
