From Philly to Chile

Although I've loved my first two years at the University of Pennsylvania, it's time for me to return to my southern roots - South American roots, that is. I'm leaving the City of Brotherly Love and spending the next five months in Santiago, Chile. I'm looking forward to living in a new country, learning in a new language and exploring every inch of the world's longest country. And oh yeah...I'm also pretty excited about living in a country run by a woman :)

From Philly to Chile: September 2008

http://phillytochile.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

From Philly to Chile. Sunday, September 28, 2008. My new favorite thing. It's called a piolet. and it's kind of amazing. This sunday, i went on an unofficial mountaineering excursion. however, considering there were about 70 kids from the different mountaineering classes our instructor some assistants, it was about as official as it could be. but we´re keeping that on the down low. You know what, i feel like climbing a mountain today. I climbed that mountain today! I love this country. A lifesaver, and.

From Philly to Chile: question of the day

http://phillytochile.blogspot.com/2008/11/question-of-day.html

From Philly to Chile. Friday, November 28, 2008. Question of the day. In preparation for my return home, I've been trying to think of how to summarize my chilean experience in a few simple sentences. Still working on that.it's been tougher than I thought. So have you met any natives down there? Maybe my perspective is just skewed because I'm used to associating the word "native" with "Native American" or native tribes. Nonetheless, it's going to be hard to have patience with trying to explain that Ch...

Will return on December 9th with lots of fun stories to share. In the mean time, please keep me and the other 5 girls I'll be travelling with in your prayers! Talk to you soon! You are a ruthless and enviable blog poster. Have fun in patagonia! Chiri...

From Philly to Chile: home for the holidays

http://phillytochile.blogspot.com/2008/12/home-for-holidays.html

From Philly to Chile. Saturday, December 13, 2008. Home for the holidays. Hugh Grant, intro of. There are few moments in real life that live up to their respective portrayal in movies. However, the cherished reunion with loved ones is one of those rare times where we mere mortals experience a corny picture-perfect moment come to life. After 9.5 hours on the plane (in an exit row seat, thank goodness! So I suppose this means that study abroad is officially over. . My family is just as goofy and loveable a...

From Philly to Chile: torres del paine

http://phillytochile.blogspot.com/2008/12/torres-del-paine_10.html

From Philly to Chile. Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Aaron Latham, New York Times. Flew down from Santiago to Punta Arenas with two girls from my program- Erin and Liz. Watching the flight path on the monitors during our 3.5 hour plane ride was incredible-seemed like we were almost going to Antarctica! Maybe some day I'll make it all the way down there.). More general observations - it seems that while most Americans wait until they're retired to go on long-term vacations, most European/Australians go whe...

Dad in Mexico! | Gershom

https://lindsayinmexico.wordpress.com/2011/08/22/dad-in-mexico

One of the perks of Dad working for a big multinational corporation is that he has meetings in offices around the world. This just so happened to work out well this summer because in late July my dad had a business meeting at the Coke offices in Mexico City! Though I’ve spent a number of summers abroad, I had never had the chance to show off a home-away-from-home to one of my parents (unless you count via skype), so I was really excited to give my dad a glimpse of life in Mexico. Day number two of dad in...

Don’t stop the pop. Another lovely coincidence of this summer was that Emma, my dear friend from college, has just so happened to be working in Mexico City for the past year as a missionary through Incarnate Word Missions. Due to distance and crazy schedules, I didn’t get to see a whole whole lot of Emma this summer, but I cherished the few times we did get to hang out! Josue, Me Emma. The event was held at Plaza de Toros. Then we watched a band called thenwe Kinky. And racing to pass a ball up to the to...

Museum of Memory and Tolerance. If you ever find yourself in Mexico City, don’t leave without going to el Museo de Memoria y Tolerancia. It is quite certainly one of the best museums I’ve ever visited, not necessarily due to the items in the museum collection, but rather due to the interactive nature of the exhibits and the transformational journey visitors embark on when they venture through the museum. A memorial to the hundreds of thousands of children killed during the Holocaust. Duke Hispanic House ...
