History Extravaganza: Last Day in Philly--Flying High Now

http://phillytodc.blogspot.com/2010/07/last-day-in-philly-flying-high-now.html

Thursday, July 15, 2010. Last Day in Philly- Flying High Now. The Last Day in Philadelphia. A rather blurry picture of Dr. David Hackett Fischer, our guest lecturer today. He spoke on the meanings of freedom and the different types of American soldiers and the crossing of the Delaware as a pivotal point in the Revolution. I have TWO quotes today, both from him. Freedom means to be attached to other free people'. The only commandment the Puritans consistently obeyed was to increase and multiply'. Gettysbu...

http://phillytodc.blogspot.com/2010/07/day-1-in-gettysburg.html

Saturday, July 17, 2010. Day 1 in Gettysburg. This is our hotel in Gettysburg. It was built in 1797 and survived the battle. It is a really cool hotel. and supposedly haunted. This morning there was a wonderful farmer's market. I bought some peaches and apples and a wonderful peach muffin! These are belt buckles and shoulder plate buckles from SC regiments at Gettysburg. Also, a confederate 'uniform'. The Visitors' Center at Gettysburg Battlefield was amazing! July 20, 2010 at 6:43 PM. Any HAUNTINGS at t...

Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Let Freedom Ring- day 4 in Philly. Today our discussions focused around the Bill of Rights and debates between Madison and Hamilton and Sherman. Quote for the day: " What do I care about scruples when the future of the Republic is at stake.". Edmund Randolph of Virginia to Lansing when Lansing criticized Randolph by saying that the Annapolis Convention was taking too much on themselves and violating the Articles of the Confederation by writing a new constitution. Inside the 2nd ...

History Extravaganza: Gettysburg continued--the Address and more

http://phillytodc.blogspot.com/2010/07/gettysburg-continued-address-and-more.html

Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Gettysburg continued- the Address and more. Today was a less hectic day. We had lectures on the Emancipation Proclamation and Lincoln's motives for issuing it when he did. Also, we discussed whether the Civil War was a revolution or a secession and why there is an important difference. The touring today was focused around the Gettysburg Address. The room and bed where Lincoln slept in the David Wills House the night before he gave his address at the Gettysburg Battlefield. This is...

From Philly to Chile

From Philly to Chile. Saturday, December 13, 2008. Home for the holidays. Hugh Grant, intro of. There are few moments in real life that live up to their respective portrayal in movies. However, the cherished reunion with loved ones is one of those rare times where we mere mortals experience a corny picture-perfect moment come to life. Philly to LA on Foot

Philly to LA on Foot. Im an ultramarathoner who ran 2,736 miles in 3 years—the equivalent of a drive from Philadelphia to LA. Sunday, July 21, 2013. Race Report: Mount Washington Road Race. My girlfriend (GF) and I ran just one hill on Saturday, June 15. That's the upside. The downside is that the hill was 7.6 miles long, and had an elevation of 6,288 feet. And was a mountain. We ran the Mount Washington Road Race. So we did training runs on other mountains. And we did hill runs, and longer runs....I kne...
