Our Adventures

Wherever our wheels take us. Thursday, April 11, 2013. After our two days in the Klein Karoo it was time to travel the Garden Route. Now if you were expecting flowers with this name you might be disappointed. The Garden Route is a paradise for eco-lovers, bird watches and solitude seekers and certainly is one of the most beautiful parts of the Western Cape. For the first time during our two months in South Africa we had rain. We also took the kayaks into a couple of caves. Apparently this is also a place...

Our Adventures: December 2009

http://www.plus60adventures.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Wherever our wheels take us. Saturday, December 12, 2009. Since our last posting we have returned from our first “snowbird” experience in Arizona. We left our winter home of Meridian RV Resort and spent a couple of nights in Las Vegas. It had been about twenty years since Donna and I last visited Las Vegas. We certainly did not recognize the place. We spent a wonderful couple of days just wondering the “strip” taking in all the sights of the new hotels and casinos. This fountain "dances" to music. Late J...

Our Adventures: March 2012

Wherever our wheels take us. Sunday, March 4, 2012. Buenos Aires, Argentina. Had a great trip into the country side of Buenos Aires where we spent the day on a working farm. Got entertained by the Gauchos (Argentina cowboy) followed by a tremendous meal. These folks sure like their meat. All cooked on the open coals just like Erin and Cam explained. No vegetables, but salads. Each of the four Gauchos had three attempts and I would say they were successful about half of their attempts. Part of our meal.

Our Adventures: September 2011

http://www.plus60adventures.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Wherever our wheels take us. Thursday, September 15, 2011. A Leaning Tower, Sun, Surf and Steep Climbs. On our way to The Cinque Terre we had a short stop in Pisa to check out the leaning tower. When the bus stopped we were swarmed by African people selling sunglasses, umbrellas and almost any other cheap trinket you may be looking for. With the thousands of tourist visiting this area the tour buses have a large parking area and from there we take a local bus to a drop off point. The latest was in 1990.

Wherever our wheels take us. Sunday, April 12, 2009. Tucson and Tombstone – March 7 to 10, 2009. This morning we left Meridian RV Park for a short 3 day visit with Ron and Diane to Tucson and Tombstone. This afternoon we decided to visit the Pima Air and Space Museum ( http:/ www.pimaair.org/. There is one building with a small display depicting the history of space travel. The display includes a mock-up of the Apollo Command Module. It was this same module that was used in the movie Apollo 13. Boyce Tho...

Patagonia: Buenos Aires - "Paris of the South"

http://plus60adventures-patagonia.blogspot.com/2016/02/buenos-aires-paris-of-south.html

Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Buenos Aires - "Paris of the South". My son who hikes the Canadian Rockies at every opportunity had added the Patagonia region of Argentina and Chile to his “hiking bucket list”. Earlier in the summer we hiked the West Coast Trail (see the blog posting). Having passed that test we discussed the idea of doing a 15 day hike in Patagonia, which brings us to sharing this adventure with you. Rather than plan our own hike we decided to book the. 15 day Paine and Fitz Roy. The buil...

The Curious Pilgrim

http://thecuriouspilgrim.blogspot.com/2010/02/there-are-many-sacred-places-throughout.html

Friday, February 12, 2010. A View From The Pew: Good Shepherd. There are many sacred places throughout the world in settings that take our breath away. One of these is the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tepako, New Zealand. From the few wooden pews in the seventy five year old stone church, people are amazed by the view of a large turquoise lake with the Southern Alps on the horizon. It is magnificent. The Curious Pilgrim: TransAlpine Train Journey: "Meeting the Challenge of the Mountains"

http://thecuriouspilgrim.blogspot.com/2010/02/transalpine-train-journey-meeting.html

Friday, February 12, 2010. TransAlpine Train Journey: "Meeting the Challenge of the Mountains". I love them. From childhood I have been thrilled with train journeys. So, there was no way I was going to miss this TransAlpine adventure. So, I set out early one Monday morning from Christchurch, shrouded in low clouds, across the Canterbury Plains, through the Southern Alps, and to Greymouth on the Tasman Sea. We remember the sheep stations! The children piled out of the train at Arthur's Pass. Arthur's Pass...

The last 6 months in Boston for a now-not-so-Aussie expat. Thoughts from home, Sydney home that is. One driving factor I'd imagine for a lot of people are for family and kids. Another reason would be for those great, fun moments where life actually does feel great. Those great moments are so fleeting to me that their memories disappear into the blackness of my mind more often than not. Buffalo buffalo; what assholes!
