I periodically teach workshops about documentary poetry and facilitate creative writing groups. Writers with all levels of writing experience (including none) are welcome. I enjoy fostering a sense of community among writers and am inspired by participants' creativity, honesty, and risk-taking. From 2012 to 2015, I facilitated creative writing groups through SAGE Central Virginia. For LGBTQ writers age 50 and better, and another for women-loving-women of any age. And George Ella Lyon's poem Where I'm From.

June 9, 2013. Marty goes to Mars/Poetry Road. As I draw back the fabric. To open the curtain to the day. A blue jay lands on the feeder. I stand at the window and reflect. My cat joins me. Each with a special function–a special beauty. Then off to the sky the jay flies. And I was wondering. I am always moving. A song ...
