Professor Chaos: July 2009
http://profssrchaos.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Musings on life, science, and life as a scientist. Friday, July 10, 2009. Well, I cleaned my office the other day and while I cannot say I'm joyous, I do feel less like a giant rock is sitting on my soul every time I sit at my computer! Thanks to everyone for encouraging to just take the time and do it. Of course, after the cleaning, the grant writing flurry hit high speed and now I need to buy a can of grant-be-gone. Part of my funk this summer is that while I'm not mole-whacking. You mean I could spend...

The Diary of a Crabby Scientist: January 2010
http://driono.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
The Diary of a Crabby Scientist. Saturday, January 30, 2010. The Last Week or So. Well, a while has passed since I last posted, so I am behind, yet again. Therefore, I will go a few mini-blog-posts that summarize what I have been up to. These are in a random order. Brother's Car Dies - Money to the Rescue. CrabBoy Hits 1/2 Puberty. We tried our best not to laugh. We are trying to figure out how to get through this little bump in the road. I am sure it will pass soon. Friday, January 15, 2010. But, I have...

http://wecansleeplater.blogspot.com/2009/05/youngest-peer-reviewers-are-often.html
We can sleep later. Another untenured biologist navigating science and the world. The youngest peer reviewers are often the harshest. Illustrated by recent articles in the Chronicle. While I can't comment on otter research, the complaints of the humanities scholar about how graduate students read texts ring true for young scientists too. Why is it that so many graduate students are reflexively critical of what they read? Personally, I think we need that "arrogance" to keep us on our toes. 5/17/09, 5:39 PM.

Thoughts on academia, hoops, and randomness: Graduation Tomorrow!
http://phdballer.blogspot.com/2009/05/graduation-tomorrow.html
Saturday, May 16, 2009. Looking forward to officially receiving my PhD. My parents are in town (4th time in my 4 years here), which is nice - makes it sorta feel like I'm on vacation, without any research thoughts. Hopefully the rain holds off so we can do some things outside. Here are a couple of good year-end, summaries for people who just started the TT track - an answering of questions. About it and a chronological summary. Some good things to keep in mind, for sure. Great posts by others.

Unmeasured Confounder: Ow ow ow
http://unmeasuredconfounder.blogspot.com/2010/02/ow-ow-ow.html
Tuesday, February 9, 2010. I have a killer headache. I almost never get this kind of tension headache. I have my first fellowship application due this week. I think correlation does equal causation here. February 10, 2010 at 7:51 AM. Headaches or acid reflux. I think every scientist I know has one or the other. I got the headaches. I think Im thankful b/c at this point I could not give up coffee (as a former labmate and adviser had to). Good luck! February 10, 2010 at 8:01 AM. View my complete profile.

The Diary of a Crabby Scientist: April 2010
http://driono.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
The Diary of a Crabby Scientist. Friday, April 16, 2010. I feel like I am neglecting you blog. I am spending so much time with my photo blog, and now I have been seduced away even more by blogging using my real identity (Clark Kent). They actually added my blog on the home page of the department. How can I turn my back on that blog now, old blog? Monday, April 12, 2010. Not science, at work. Sunday, April 11, 2010. Science, at home. I looked though and saw them too! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Diary of a Crabby Scientist: PD Issues
http://driono.blogspot.com/2010/03/pd-issues.html
The Diary of a Crabby Scientist. Sunday, March 21, 2010. As promised, here are my issues:. PD#1: He just needs more than I can give. It just feels like I give and I give and I give, but he just won't be satisfied. Why can't see see MY needs? Why is it all about HIM? PD#2: Use the "&" to run the model in the BACKGROUND! You don't have to sit there at your desk the whole time it is running! In case you don't know, pico is the editor for pine, which I am sure enlightens a lot of you! F/11 Hold It Steady.

The Diary of a Crabby Scientist: August 2009
http://driono.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
The Diary of a Crabby Scientist. Tuesday, August 25, 2009. I bought Welcome to the Pleasuredome by Frankie Goes to Hollywood! We're a long way from home. Ok, enough of that. Today, Crab-Girl woke up really late, so we didn't get to the day care place (day care for an 11 year old? I am not sure what to call it.) until 9:30. Then I discovered I had a very low tire. I drove to a gas station and bought some air (what the hell is up with buying air? Now I can make all sorts of stuff from Cook's Illustrated!

The Diary of a Crabby Scientist: June 2009
http://driono.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
The Diary of a Crabby Scientist. Thursday, June 25, 2009. Same Place as Last Week. I am sitting in the same hotel, one floor up and one room away from the hotel that I was in last week at this exact same moment. Tomorrow I am going to take the same flight home and eat the same breakfast on the airplane. What is this, day 9? I am not looking forward to Sunday, in which I will, once again, leave the kids. Well, time to relax a bit and work on some more talks! Saturday, June 20, 2009. Thursday, June 18, 2009.
