Does owning a pet reduce stress levels? | Rhian'sBlog

Some psychology stuff I think about…. Does owning a pet reduce stress levels? This entry was posted on February 16, 2012, in Animals. If you own a pet, whether it is a cat, dog, hamster snake or whatever, do you feel that spending time with them is some what therapeutic? As though stroking them or even talking to them has reduced anxiety or stress, or do they change your emotional state? If pets do lower are stress levels then maybe student accommodation should allow us to have pets, it’s just a thought.

Some psychology stuff I think about…. It might be reliable but is it valid? This entry was posted on March 10, 2012, in Child Development. When we want to research something we often test our ideas or hypothesis using a range of experimental tests and designs. One of the most important things a researcher should ensure is that their test actually measures what it says it is going to measure, this means making the test valid. Free Will, Do we really have it? | Rhian'sBlog

Some psychology stuff I think about…. Free Will, Do we really have it? This entry was posted on October 13, 2011, in Determinism. Sure we all have the right to make our own choices, but when it comes to certain aspects of our lives do we really have the free will to make our own decisions? We don’t always have control over our lives, sometimes it’s in the hands of someone else. Are we free to think and behave however we want? Right now we don’t have 100% free will and I don’t believe we ever have had it ...

eating disorders in society | zowo1

Just another WordPress.com site. Eating disorders in society. As I mentioned earlier the media are very public about anorexia and obesity which could make it easier for people to get help as more people are aware for the behaviour either family or friends may be experiencing or if there is a general change in their behaviour, more people know what to look for. However the media sometimes portray the disorders negatively and people may be slightly embarrassed to seek the help that they need. I do not beli...

Just another WordPress.com site. Do gymnasts actually need vision in order to perform? Published March 11, 2012. It was found that there was little or no variation in the scores of the first and second condition (normal and reduced vision), but they scored lowest in the third condition where they performed the skill blind. Although this evidence suggests vision is an important factor in influencing a gymnasts technical performance, I came across evidence of a young gymnast who clearly challenges this.

Mdash; 5 Comments. April 29, 2012. You would expect rewards to improve future behaviour, especially in young children. However, this idea has long been rejected in psychology, with the main belief being that although they sometimes work, they can also backfire. This effect has also been shown to occur amongst adults, for ex...

Just another WordPress.com site. The use of statistics is reducing human behaviours to figures ignoring the individualistic nature of our species? October 21, 2011. However one cannot help but question how can an individualistic society so focused on the uniqueness of individuals have this urge to sit under the nomothetical roof of statistics? We cannot deny the importance for psychological research to be presented in the media, as this allows the public to gain insight into substantial findings, and ensure funding is given by the government for psychology to continue to find these interesting discoveries. However it is the way this research is presented that is the problem. An example of this is given in Ben Goldacre’s book. Inevitably the reliability and v...

Results of the analysis suggested that overall sleep deprivation strongly impairs human functioning. It was found that m...Since...
