This one may ending up being more than a micro-project. I played in a pit orchestra for the first time in years, and the pros were through the roof: better musicianship, decent eustress, more musician friends. The New York Opera Exchange. Puts on a few performances each year, and I'm considering joining their semi-regular roster of musicians, if possible. This month's opera was Mozart's The Magic Flute. La Vie Quotidienne: 2013.04

http://rachelsmucker.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Radicals and the 99%: Core and Mass Movement. In the story of the righteous few, success itself becomes suspect. If a group or individual is embraced by a significant enough portion of society, it must be because they are not truly revolutionary or because their message has been "watered down." It seriously messes with radicals' heads when some of our ideas start to become popular! Excerpt from " Radicals and the 99%: Core and Mass Movement. I like this: the approachable radical. Is absolutely worth it.

La Vie Quotidienne: Brooklyn Wort

http://rachelsmucker.blogspot.com/2013/09/brooklyn-wort.html

Don and I managed to squeeze into the Brooklyn Wort, an annual local homebrew competition. Brooklyn Wort judges picked the top 30 homebrews, from a pool of 85 contestants. We just barely made the cut (got in as alternates with our Fat Wizard Wheat! And attended the final event/competition a couple weeks ago. Simpleton Saison: 7.8% ABV, 26.5 IBUs. Don at the event table. Congrats to Rachel and Don for being one of the finalists! Awe thanks mom :). This comment has been removed by the author.

http://rachelsmucker.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Things have been busy, so I'm focusing on the basics: staying in shape, doing my homework, paying my bills. The latter has been the most difficult. I forget how much the city beats you up sometimes! Wedding with Don and his family: Junction City, Kansas. Ropes course/ziplining with friends from UD: Newark, Delaware. Halloween. I was Max: Harlem, New York. The famous Roman cage cup at the Corning Museum of Glass: Corning, New York. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Simple template. Powered by Blogger.

Funding someone's PhD with my M.A. Doing Big Boy Things. After so much success in coming close to my goal of 6 posts/month, May has been a complete failure. My post on Ghent is a work in progress. I have 2 or 3 other ideas that I haven't even started on. I am, in fact, still alive, but I've been working on school stuff, job applications, and my pending dissertation. I'll be back soon though, neurotic as ever. Relaxing in my garden. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Doing Big Boy Things.

Funding someone's PhD with my M.A. What grabs my attention is seeing an actual flag flying on top of a building, above the entrance of the local town hall, and at the gate of an old castle beside the train tracks on my way into London. I saw this comic in The Philadelphia Inquirer. The other day, &, like many other things I read and interpret, it struck a chord:. I've started reading the comics, along with many other local newspaper articles, because I'm trying to slow down in my everyday routines, be more conscious of everything I do, and live my life exactly the way I think a life should be lived. I've been talking about "leading by example" for a long time now, but I'm working on bettering every day. So what's my push? So many peopl...

Turns out, Catwoman's cat was Isis, too. And Google showed me pictures proving that tons of other people have already named their cats Isis. Once again, I'm left realizing that nothing I think is ever original. So I thought some more, and I've finally reached a conclusion:. What is a name, anyway? Did you ever notice that the people you care about most are the people you address by name the least? You may call them nicknames, or pet. Names, but rarely their given. A lot of people don't like their names, ...

http://find-color.blogspot.com/2009/12/finding-your-center-street.html

Finding your Center Street:. This is the space where magic happens. People supporting our spouting on napkins. The have-nothings and want-lesses. The pouring hearts and spit up messes. We're all built to make, create, and change. To go through it all and rearrange. There are lessons in every web we weave. All the forget-me-nots and tricks up sleeves. The holes in our cores don't mend themselves. When we write our thoughts and keep them on shelves. Of nights when sleeping men won't die. Photo taken Octobe...

Anarchism: Self, I toldja so. A book talk with the editors at Wooden Shoe Books. Tonight left me both unsurprised and infuriated. If you aren't feeling the same by the end of this, you're not thinking hard enough. Contemporary Anarchist Studies: An Introductory Anthology of Anarchy in The Academy. The talk, in a nutshell:. We're anarchists, but we really like the comfort provided by The Ivory Tower. Working at McDonald's is really, really horrible, you know? You don't want to go to grad school because cl...

Being an MT

Thursday, June 11, 2009. It has been a while since I updated. I just wanted to comment on how nice it was to have a work-at-home job when I had my baby. I was able to start back again when my baby was just 4 days old. I just wheeled his little bassinet in to my office and worked my regular schedule right away. He has adjusted well to this! The software I would recommend to use is basically just Express Scribe, Microsoft Word, Shorthand and Stedman's. Monday, March 30, 2009. Does my typing speed matter?
