Rebecca's Nest

Monday, April 8, 2013. Two artists whose artwork and art practice I admire are Lenore Tawney and Agnes Martin. Tawney and Martin were friends while both lived in New York and I definitely see parallels in their art and statements. Lenore Tawney from an article in ‘American Craft’. Of course, Tawney is most known for her spectacular weavings and I acknowledge those but wanted to focus on her drawings, collage and assemblage for this post. Agnes Martin writes about her artwork:. From Dia Art Foundation.

Rebecca's Nest: March 2013

http://rebeccasnest.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 9, 2013. I’ve been experimenting with some new artwork that focuses on color, color relationships and form. I’m still in the designing stage working on sketches and doing samples. Here’s one of my earliest sample pieces. It isn’t quite there yet as I’m still working out materials and relationships between the forms and the question of “do I want to stay formal and use pure forms”? I’m purposely trying not to over think at this stage and just play. Friday, March 1, 2013.

Sunday, November 6, 2011. The practice of seeing (Part 2). I wrote about an interview conducted by Alessia Masi in ARTnews, November 2011. She interviewed Wayne Thiebaud. In an article titled “Object Lessons: Wayne Thiebaud on Morandi, light, color, shadows and more.” After Thiebaud discusses Morandi so expressively, Ms. Masi inquires about his own art practice, how he works in general, from reference, memory or imagination. Half-figure of a Bather. 1807; oil on canvas. To see the work of Mark Bradford.

Rebecca's Nest: June 2012

http://rebeccasnest.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 26, 2012. The Art of Charline von Heyl. Nothing makes me happier than to see a talented and contemporary female artist be recognized with museum retrospectives at a relatively young age. Von Heyl is a painter and printmaker with a style that is difficult to pin down. I. Find her work utterly compelling. It’s Vot’s Behind Me that I Am. 2010, acrylic, oil on linen and canvas, 82 x 72” (courtesy. PA and is not identified. 2007, woodcut on digital image, 30 x 22 1/2”. 2010), a newer work. Von H...

Rebecca Howdeshell Studio Art. Thursday, May 13, 2010. New large work 5-2010. I've been working with industrial felt for four years now. I'm still in love with the material and am obsessed with working white on white. All of my stitching is done free motion – I do this so I can change the way the stitch looks for each artwork depending upon my intent. This is a second large, 72" x 18", artwork, illustrating the composing properties of the human spine. Mass II (and details). 169; Rebecca Howdeshell 2010.

Friday, December 18, 2009. Terry Jarrard-Dimond - Stage 1 and 15. First I want to thank the participants of this project:. You were all wonderful to work with. At the end of this article all 15 Stages of the project are pictures. The idea was simple. I started a composition which was passed along from artist to artist, each in turn working with the piece to move it to a conclusion. My thinking about the project and it's significance developed right along with the piece which is now officially entitled:.

Kelly made me do it

Kelly made me do it. Friday, October 05, 2007. Continued recap of last weekend. Sunday we went to the aquarium. I was really impressed by how far it's come, after everything having died from Katrina. It was a pretty good experience for an aquarium, but I really have little perspective about "normal" aquariums. I was spoiled rotten by the Monterey Bay aquarium, which is gonna be tough to beat. At least this visit was virtually vomit-free. Ugh No more roast garlic for me. Posted by rebecca at 5:20 PM.
