Sunday, August 2, 2015. Oligarchy: It's Here and It's Obvious. A new oligarchic era of American politics came into full view on Friday, as super PACs disclosed fundraising details showing billionaires bankrolling the 2016 presidential race to an unprecedented degree. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. An Inexpensive Alternative to an Auto Repair. Over the weekend, I ran into a car problem that could have cost upwards of $100 to solve, but wound up costing just a little over $5. The clerk said the store could do the check- for $100 minimum- but the mechanic who did that would not be in until Monday. My friend Janeson suggested we try Advance Auto or Auto Zone, neither of which is far from my house. Links to this post. Monday, June 29, 2015. Supremes Emptying Out Prison Cells.

http://fromtheeditr.blogspot.com/2015/08/williamson-road-lot-of-talk-little.html
Monday, August 3, 2015. Williamson Road: A Lot of Talk, Little Action. This Searstown was the center of the Williamson Road world in 1963. The local daily had a story about development along Williamson Road Sunday ( here. That came about as close to missing the point as I can imagine. It talked about officials taking walks along the road, looking at broken sidewalks and broken signs, dreams of creating a 54,000-square-foot mall area, about how some merchants love the area, about the traffic count. Nor is...

Friday, July 31, 2015. The Real Beauty and the Beast. This is Madeline and me tonight just after the Mill Mountain Theatre production of "Beauty and the Beast, Jr." Madeline was simply lovely in her polka-dot dress with the huge ribbon in the back and the beautifully-dimpled smile. Best date I've had in a looooong time. It was a dream for an old man and the kid seemed to like it a lot too. A great topping to a marvelous birthday (mine). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sunday, August 2, 2015. Watergirl Meets the Lake. Maddie gets soaked by her new buddy Dan Roach. Birds of a feather . uh, fish of a scale. My pal Linda Balentine invited Madeline and me to spend Sunday afternoon at Smith Mountain Lake with her and her husband Dan Roach, and we jumped at the opportunity. Maddie is a waterbaby if there ever was one and the possibilities were endless. Dan made the Sea Ox. Maddie and the ox. Maddie played hard in the water with my pal Janeson (who drove us out) and Dan, with...

http://fromtheeditr.blogspot.com/2015/08/outsized-ceo-pay-will-be-exposed.html
Thursday, August 6, 2015. Outsized CEO Pay Will Be Exposed. How much pay is too much pay for CEOs of public companies? We don't know that yet, but a new ruling by the Securities and Exchange Commission could help us define it in the future. This from this morning's NYTimes ( here. After a long delay and plenty of resistance from corporations, the SEC. The new rule (opposed by the two Republicans on the commission) does not limit executive pay. It simply exposes it and puts it into perspective. Fr...Gun S...
