Natureschild Gardenworks: Fall
http://ncgardenworks.blogspot.com/2014/10/fall.html
Perennial Gardening and Nature Watching in Upstate South Carolina - Zone 7. Saturday, October 4, 2014. I was also pleased to see that the Water Oaks are colorful in the fall. Most oaks turn shades of brown. These are turning yellow first, then darken to an attractive shade of pinkish gold. Very pretty while all the shades are on the tree at once. This female cardinal was the first to notice this week. Her mate was right behind her. I finally got these this week! I'm enjoying the cooler weather. The A...

Perennial Gardening and Nature Watching in Upstate South Carolina - Zone 7. Monday, March 17, 2014. Top O' The Morn. Spring has not sprung. The unusually cold winter ( for here. Hasn't broken yet. Not what I expected. I have seen 70s so not a total bust, but mostly 30s or less mornings to 40s/50s for daytime. At least it's mostly been sunny days. I'm still working in the house so I don't mind the coolth that much. Still have piles of stuff, but it's slowly getting squared away. My dog is so smart. Green ...

Natureschild Gardenworks: ~ Garden Tips ~
http://ncgardenworks.blogspot.com/p/garden-tips.html
Perennial Gardening and Nature Watching in Upstate South Carolina - Zone 7. Things I've learned in over 30 years of gardening to save money and/or work. This page will be updated as I add new tips. Updated: 6.30.14. Large containers take a lot of soil, but most plants only use the top 6-8 inches or so. To save soil and weight, start by filling the bottom of the pot with "debris". This can be anything lightweight and safe for plants. Do you shop online a lot, or know someone who does? Another benefit of p...

Natureschild Gardenworks: Active morning in the garden
http://ncgardenworks.blogspot.com/2014/07/active-morning-in-garden.html
Perennial Gardening and Nature Watching in Upstate South Carolina - Zone 7. Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Active morning in the garden. Ok, there's not really a garden here yet, but I've always liked how the British refer to a yard as a garden. Even if it's just a lawn with some trees and shrubs, or a tiny patio space, they call it a garden. So I will, too. It will all be garden eventually. Pine wood chips and a birdbath pedestal. I asked for a level top on this stump, and it's about as perfect as a chainsaw ...

Natureschild Gardenworks: March 2014
http://ncgardenworks.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Perennial Gardening and Nature Watching in Upstate South Carolina - Zone 7. Saturday, March 22, 2014. My dog is so smart. Whipper has adjusted to being a full time house dog very well. He pretty much housebroke himself. His crate is his "cave", and he often goes in there in the evening when he knows I'll be shutting him in it for the night. I really didn't expect him to understand what I was saying, but he did! But I guess the crate corner (it's all wire) wasn't quite what he needed. Brush my dog's teeth?

Natureschild Gardenworks: June 2014
http://ncgardenworks.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Perennial Gardening and Nature Watching in Upstate South Carolina - Zone 7. Friday, June 20, 2014. I can dig it. Pots were a luxury. So anyways, when I got them here, they went on the ground along the backside of the house. Where they've been ever since. That area is fully shaded so they were getting no sun to speak of. I lost all the ones in the smaller pots, some of which were rather special. I was going to lose them all if I didn't get them in the ground. That would be awesome! I can dig it! The south...
