The Roving Genealogist: Getting in Synch

http://rovinggenealogist.blogspot.com/2012/02/getting-in-synch.html

Thursday, February 2, 2012. I recently upgraded to Family Tree Maker 2012, which allows me to synch up with the tree I store on Ancestry.com. It's only been a few days, but I already appreciate the feature. Not only do the two "versions" match, but the synching also covers photos. With older versions of FTM, I could download a gedcom from Ancestry.com, but that wouldn't incorporate any of the photos (have thousands) that I've either found on the site or uploaded myself. The Roving Genealogist: August 2011

http://rovinggenealogist.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 27, 2011. Diggin' on Stephen Diggedon. In the past week, I've been contacted by two distant cousins looking for information on our common ancestor, Stephen Diggedon. He's quite the mystery man. I did find reference to Jane and Eleanor Diggedon on a victualling list in Halifax in 1750. That suggests they were either city founders or Foreign Protestants bound for Lunenburg. Whether they're connected to Stephen is yet to be determined, but I think there's a strong likelihood. Several years ...

The Roving Genealogist: June 2011

http://rovinggenealogist.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 16, 2011. In Search of My Irish Roots. Long before I developed my current fascination with genealogy, I felt a particular pride in knowing that I came from good Irish stock: Granny Dobson was an O’Leary by birth. (And what could be more Irish than O’Leary? Genealogy unearthed an even stronger connection in the form of the Fitzgeralds, who married into the O’Leary family several generations back.). John and Mary’s son, John O’Leary, Jr., married Anastasia Fitzgerald, daughte...If you go int...

The Roving Genealogist: Their Names Liveth Forevermore

http://rovinggenealogist.blogspot.com/2011/11/their-names-liveth-forevermore.html

Friday, November 11, 2011. Their Names Liveth Forevermore. Emma must have wondered at the cause of such grief. The Great War tried the spirits of millions and costs countless soldiers their lives- a huge loss, almost impossible to comprehend at times. The first strikes came from an unexpected quarter. Her father died in early 1915, a month short of his 88th birthday. A sad passing, but Angus McLellan had lived a long life and could go to a well-deserved rest. Arthur E. Swaine. How relieved she must have ...
