Saffron Strands: Brawn for lunch (or dinner)

http://saffron-strands.blogspot.com/2015/05/brawn-for-lunch-or-dinner.html

Is a way of pulling together all the threads . Friday, 15 May 2015. Brawn for lunch (or dinner). A glass of VdF "Moussamoussettes" Dne Moshe. Torta Fritta, Parma Ham. Occupying a corner site in what was a wood-turning workshop, it's a lovely light-filled space furnished with reclaimed tables and chairs. Brawn opened not long before I wrote about it here. Raw Scallop, Celery and Bottarga. Lunch on a perfect Spring day this week began with glasses of gently fizzed, palest Loire ros é. Location: London, UK.

Saffron Strands: Raspberry Clafoutis

http://saffron-strands.blogspot.com/2015/07/raspberry-clafoutis.html

Is a way of pulling together all the threads . Wednesday, 22 July 2015. From the verb CLAFIR. The delicacy of raspberries calls for light cooking. This recipe is adapted from Second Helpings of Roast Chicken. It's somewhere between a custard and a batter pudding. He calls it a "clafoutis" and that's fine by me. A pinch of salt. About 25g of softened butter. 1 whole egg 2 egg yolks. 1 teaspoon potato flour. A little icing sugar. A little raspberry eau de vie (optional). Add hot water to the roasting tin t...

Saffron Strands: Favourite Coffee

Is a way of pulling together all the threads . At Coleman Coffee Roasters. I don't write much about coffee. There are plenty of other bloggers in London who have that covered and there's more than one App for that. But I do know what I like and Coleman Coffee Roasters. Pulls all the right levers for me. Over a year ago, so click on the link for some background. So why a return to Coleman Coffee? Hundreds of hours of hard graft have gone into paring back the layers of previous uses - fashion shop after bo...

Is a way of pulling together all the threads . Sunday, 14 June 2015. Five Quarters - Recipes and Notes from a Kitchen in Rome by Rachel Roddy. Five Quarters - Recipes and Notes from a Kitchen in Rome. I've watched Rachel Roddy's writing develop from her Rachel Eats blog, which she started in 2008, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on her first book. As always, I endeavour to be objective in my review and I loved the writing which feels so familiar. Linguine with courgettes, eggs and parmesan). Chapter 2...

Saffron Strands: Rhubarb Grapefruit Preserve

http://saffron-strands.blogspot.com/2015/06/rhubarb-grapefruit-preserve.html

Is a way of pulling together all the threads . Tuesday, 2 June 2015. I've previously mentioned Jane Grigson's declaration that only "pink" rhubarb. Personally I find rhubarb releases far too much water to ever make a good pie but, thanks to the Fern Verrow - A year of recipes from a farm and its kitchen. We've been enjoying bowls of Rhubarb custard fool and bottling up Rhubarb cordial for summer's promise of glasses of Rhubarb gin fizz, Pink lemonade and Rhubarb Bellini. Makes 40 oz/1.125 kg). Peel the g...

Stories From The Stove. Posted by Sophie James. Asymp; 28 Comments. I started with soft fruits. My first blog post back in the UK was on red gooseberries. Lovely in their brown paper bag from the greengrocer in Seaford (in East Sussex), the man with the curly hair and always a kind word. He is also the butcher. FORKFUL: February 2012

http://www.myforkful.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Monday, 6 February 2012. And made a quick and rudimentary omelette that I then sliced and stirred through. That omelette was wondrous and was, I think, made so by that particular chilli sauce. Strangely, it tastes pretty average on its own. A bunch of spring onions, finely sliced. An inch of root ginger, peeled and finely sliced. A clove of garlic, you guessed it - finely sliced. One Thai red chilli, finely chopped (seeds in or out - your call. I kept the seeds in and it was fine). 1 tbsp of soy sauce.

FORKFUL: A good thing

http://www.myforkful.com/2012/04/good-thing.html

Friday, 6 April 2012. Here is what I am currently eating for breakfast:. And ruddy delicious it is too. What that is is last night's prawn curry. Two of my dearest friends came round for supper yesterday. The menu was: prawn curry, okra, vegetable pakoras, rice and chutney, followed by tiramisu. Whilst I was making all of that I thought "Ha, this would be a terrible menu if any of us were pregnant! Serves 4 (non-pregnant) people. Two packets of raw king prawns. 2 tspns of turmeric. 1 tspn of ground ginger.

I was more brazen in relation to one gift that I lugged home for Mr. F. My friends and I were staying at Hotel on Rivington (recommended), and on our way back from a particularly lengthy shopping and schlepping outing we passed by Bisous Ciao. FORKFUL: Green rice and eggs

http://www.myforkful.com/2011/06/green-rice-and-eggs.html

Saturday, 18 June 2011. Green rice and eggs. It's been a bit quiet around here recently, hasn't it? Not one post during the whole of May. You'll understand the silence when I tell you that the reason for it was the fact that last month Mr F and I moved house. Which is something that I won't be doing again in a hurry. Stressful, dusty, argument-inducing, dusty, chaotic, frustrating, dusty, and painful. And did I mention the dust? Green rice and eggs. Oh Hipstamatic, how I love thee. 29 July 2011 at 22:58.

Tuesday, 14 December 2010. In anticipation of some excellent new posts. I've been terrible at blogging in the past few weeks, and for that I can only apologise. Why does everything go completely MENTAL in the run up to Xmas? Christmas lunch, so will attempt to write about that if it doesn't all end in tears. Is a way of pulling together all the threads of my food related passions. Thursday, 13 August 2015. It's easy to take the onion for granted but there are some dishes where it commands a starring role. Onion Soup, Roast Stuffed Onions, Onions a la Grecque and Onion Marmalade, to name a few. For me, Simon Hopkinson's Onion Tart with Lancashire Cheese is a fine example; the Provençal onion tart, Pissaladi è. Re, another notable one. But should a Pissaladière include tomato or not? And, if pastry, what kind?

Hall of fame: My favourite products of 2016. This post is a little overdue, but I had to take some time to consider what I actually wanted to put on this list! Frederic Malle Monsieur is my favourite of this year – it’s leathery, a little smoky, warm and absolutely beautiful. Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Lacquer in Red Corset. ColourPop...
