http://talesfromnorthside.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Once again. . .I know, it has been a while since I have posted. I do, however, very sincerly want to relaunch the blog. I am currently in the process of moving to a new apartment closer to downtown, and am looking to start up my blog again. Stay tuned in the next few weeks for updates and a relaunch. July | 2007 | New YTOWN
https://newytown.wordpress.com/2007/07
The forum for Youngstown news, events, and opinions. With budget shortfalls throughout Mahoning County, it is ridiculous that the county commissioners think it makes good economic sense to purchase the Oakhill Rennaisance Place. Among other things, they argue ample parking and an on-site day care for employees’ children makes it a much more attractive place than their former location at Garland Plaza on the east side. Some county departments aren’t fully staffed, some could use upgrades. So as I begin th...

June | 2007 | New YTOWN
https://newytown.wordpress.com/2007/06
The forum for Youngstown news, events, and opinions. Anyway, our friend Phil Kidd of Defend Youngstown, who is much more “in the know” than I’ll ever be, has announced that the property has “alternate plans” instead of restoration that he “cannot discuss” but thinks “if the plan goes forward, most people will be very pleased”. East downtown, over by the Chevrolet Centre? I covered an expansive area, from downtown to Smoky Hollow and into the east and south sides of the city. Comments : 2 Comments. Ryan a...

A thought on education | New YTOWN
https://newytown.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/a-thought-on-education
The forum for Youngstown news, events, and opinions. A thought on education. I’ve been hard at work this week, and we have a double feature today! Scroll down for a second new story. As you know, the Youngstown City Schools, in addition to being in the middle of a massive financial crisis, have also had dangerously low test scores for years. A letter to the editor in today’s Vindicator paints a different picture. The full letter is here. But what about every other student in Youngstown? I also think its ...

Be Grateful | New YTOWN
https://newytown.wordpress.com/2007/07/18/be-grateful
The forum for Youngstown news, events, and opinions. The Vindicator, along with Jay Williams, have been voices for people here who complain about how high the concession prices are at the arena. The people who say these things must not get out too much, because after going to these ballparks I would demand these people start rejoicing at how good they have it as far as the price of food is concerned. So what do you think of those prices? Feel like complaining to Boston Culinary some more? New York is pro...

Tales from the North Side: Homesteading in Youngstown?
http://talesfromnorthside.blogspot.com/2007/07/homesteading-in-youngstown.html
Friday, July 13, 2007. I am reading an article for my Geography class about this are of the U.S which the author has dubbed "The Foundry". The area includes Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and parts of West Virginia and Canada. There was an interesting passage about a housing/retail plan developed in Baltimore that I thought would be worth posting. Take a look. . . .could this work in Youngstown? Actually, the conversation was not about bravery per se. It was about windows. There is no question that the neighbor...

Tales from the North Side: July 2007
http://talesfromnorthside.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Yes I know NPR has done a story about Youngstown, the 2010 plan etc, but I'm not going to post the link to the feed, mostly because everyone else within the Y-town blog community has it posted. So many in the community have blasted Jay Williams for his ineffectiveness in fighting crime, in lack of jobs in the area etc. I would contend, however, that Mayor McKelvey and other administrations had virtually no plan for the city, at least not one like 2010. In the end, will 2010 work?

Tales from the North Side: June 2007
http://talesfromnorthside.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2007. I recently found this site and event. I'm very excited about films being run in Youngstown. Check it out, and support the local arts. Http:/ www.youngstownfilm.com/index.html. Sunday, June 24, 2007. I decided to start this blog through the coaxing of many at http:/ www.downtownyoungstown.com/. I am passionate about the city of Youngstown, and in seeing it revitalized. And so, in tribute, here is one of my favorite Far Side comics:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
