Alva Anne: July 2015
http://alvaanne.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
This journal follows the restoration of a Cape Dory Typhoon, "weekender" model. This 19' yacht exhibits sailing characteristics similar to vessels twice her size. Designed by Carl Alberg, she is outfitted below decks with a v-berth and two quarter berths - making her great for daysailing and overnight outings. Sail plan is a fractional rig sloop. Cape Dory Typhoon, Weekender. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Final Bottom Paint Removal (Port). July 29, 2015. Total Time: 1.5 Hrs. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. I had lim...

Sailing Dinghy: Work Completed
http://awee1.blogspot.com/2015/04/work-completed.html
Wednesday, April 1, 2015. March 29, 2015. Work has come to completion on the custom sailing dinghy. Work included fabricating new brightwork for the dinghy, prepping bottom and topsides for eventual paint, priming bottom and topsides, and applying topcoat paint to the bottom and topsides. Color choice, along with the new teak brightwork, came out looking really nice. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Westsail 32 Hull #667. Hull # 667 Moves On (with some sadness). Sailing Dinghy: Oiling Brightwork
http://awee1.blogspot.com/2015/01/oiling-brightwork.html
Saturday, January 24, 2015. January 18, 2015. With the painting of the hull complete, I was now ready to return to the brightwork. The time had come to treat the teak wood with a sealer / preserver. The owner had decided against a varnish for the brightwork, but the teak would need some conditioning and protection from the tough FL environment - chiefly UV protection. Periodic application will serve to prolong the life of the sailing dinghy's new brightwork. Total Time: .5 Hr. Westsail 32 Hull #667.

Sailing Dinghy: Second Topcoat Application
http://awee1.blogspot.com/2014/12/second-topcoat-application.html
Saturday, December 20, 2014. December 20, 2014. I worked my way around the dinghy admittedly still struggling with poor lighting conditions. As a result, the sanding is a bit of a spastic battle trying to see a particular portion of the surface from a few different angles to catch imperfections. Over the next two coats, I will arrange additional work lights to improve visible imperfections. The picture below is after sanding with 320-grit paper. Total Time: 1.5 Hrs. Sailing Dinghy: November 2014
http://awee1.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 30, 2014. First Coat of Primer. November 30, 2014. After vacuuming most the sanding dust, I wiped the surfaces with a solvent to remove the balance of the residue from sanding. After cleaning the surface with solvent, I moved to taping off the two areas that needed protection: the centerboard and the bow eye. The primer and paint being used in this dinghy restoration is Alexseal. Total Time: 2.75 Hrs. Saturday, November 29, 2014. Repositioning for Paint (Final Fill and Fair). With the re...
