Ministry Moments and Other Mid-Life Musings: March 2010
http://midliferookie.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Ministry Moments and Other Mid-Life Musings. Life in the middle of many firsts. Sunday, March 28, 2010. In January, someone recommended a book called. Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes. By William Bridges. Am I the only one who sees the humor in a man named Bridges writing a book about transitions? When I bought it, I had no idea how much this book would apply to me in the coming weeks and months. In February, I passed my ordination interviews. WooHoo! Three years ago, if I had been told I was ...

Ministry Moments and Other Mid-Life Musings: Facing 50
http://midliferookie.blogspot.com/2010/08/facing-50.html
Ministry Moments and Other Mid-Life Musings. Life in the middle of many firsts. Friday, August 20, 2010. I was thinking today as I drove away from my hairdresser's after getting last week's cut modernized, "I think I'm ready to face 50." I've got my little red car with a sunroof, my cool iPhone with the little red case, and a cute, modern (slightly defrumping) haircut. The boat reminds me of when I got to meet you. Turning 50 - ftw! This comment has been removed by the author. On a catamaran, perhaps?

Ministry Moments and Other Mid-Life Musings: June 2010
http://midliferookie.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Ministry Moments and Other Mid-Life Musings. Life in the middle of many firsts. Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Today I took time for a morning retreat at the park. I've had considerable anxiety about being solo pastor at my new church. I knew I needed to spend some time with God before I get caught up in a million details (okay a thousand). As I began to read and reflect, I made some discoveries. Links to this post. Monday, June 28, 2010. Looking Back, Looking Forward. We had a joyful, temporary good bye as w...

The Butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough. Yep, it’s ME. January 24, 2013. The rich gold, the stark images. The infinite and the finite meet. In our aloneness, we are never alone. Could we but cry out in such utter joy? Could we but fall to our knees? Could we touch the transcendent face of God? Yes, in moments like this it is more real than the grain of sand that worries our shoe. The prints of our journey regress into a distance. The untrod expanse before us. Jul 16, 2013. Appare...

Coming to Terms...: Proud
http://mlraminiakcomingtoterms.blogspot.com/2015/07/proud.html
Thursday, July 2, 2015. The Fourth of July is creeping up on us again. It’s always an uncomfortable time for me, because I am so allergic to the concepts of patriotism, nationalism, flag-worship and glorification of the military that move to the front and center of our national consciousness on that day. In recent years…oh, since the onset of the Bush Administration, I’d say…I have taken particular exception to crows of “I’m PROUD to be an American! 8221;, and their accompanying. I may be fortunate.

Friday, February 27, 2015. On The Passing of a "Friend". One of my personal heroes died this morning,. Yes, he was "only" an actor. And the character he brought to life was fictional. But what a character. Spock was a product of American pop culture of the 1960's, but he endured through nearly five decades of cultural changes as an icon of courage,. Insatiable intellectual curiosity, humor, loyal friendship and peacemaking. Hoped, awaited the human race as we went out among the stars. Now he really is.

Friday, January 23, 2015. Thoughts on American Sniper. Have you seen “American Sniper” yet? Have you read the book? I have done neither…the title/subject matter itself is not simply uninteresting to me, it’s downright repugnant. But even in my relatively small online world, I have been able to pick up on the tug-of-war of opposing opinions surrounding the movie’s popularity. And so of course I feel the need to weigh in. I grew up in the sixties. What was not to hate about that? We believed that the ignom...
