Shaping the Nest: July 2014
http://www.shapingthenest.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 24, 2014. For a while I've been asking Cam about building a place for me to start some making compost. When we first moved in I was throwing our kitchen scraps etc. in a heap in the woods. It didn't work out to well because it spread out naturally and just blended with the existing soil. We are pretty much always working on a budget so my number on priority was that it be functional and cheap. I had this in mind. Here is the start of the bins. Monday, July 14, 2014. I mentioned in last wee...
Shaping the Nest: Front landscaping
http://www.shapingthenest.blogspot.com/2015/06/front-landscaping.html
Monday, June 8, 2015. I finally finished up the front landscaping. We were waiting for weeks for the compost to be ready but I couldn't be patient any longer and just got some from Lowes. Before (pre move in). A few weeks ago. Now - Juniper and peonies in the front (my favorite flowers! I did end up planting some extra bare root strawberries I had in the front. They haven't been eaten by deer yet and they are growing pretty good for the 5 hours of sunlight they get each day. No spray painted tree :).
Shaping the Nest: Chickens!
http://www.shapingthenest.blogspot.com/2015/06/chickens.html
Monday, June 22, 2015. The plans for the A Frame coop were from ana-white.com but we modified it a bit. Cam used fence posts for the roof, hardward mesh (as recommended since we live in an area with lots of raccoons), and we put doors only on one side (hers had 4 doors on the top). We tried to use a bunch of scrap wood we had on hand to keep down the cost. We lock each door with a carabiner clip. This also is suppose to help keep racoons out (I heard they can figure out lots of simple locks? They are fou...
Shaping the Nest: December 2014
http://www.shapingthenest.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Let's play the spot the differences game! My kids love that one. Did you guess it? We added some woven shades on the windows a few months ago. And over the break I finally filled in those last empty picture frames. I will tell you, if you want people to talk about what's on your wall just leave some empty picture frames up. I think 90% of the people who come in our house commented on them. Monday, December 22, 2014. Coming up.The Boys Room! Yes those are purple walls! It is ti...
Shaping the Nest: Set backs!
http://www.shapingthenest.blogspot.com/2015/05/set-backs.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. I was hoping to post the finished landscaping today but my mulch I get from the compost facility isn't available until next week. In lieu of that, I was going to share a little organization project but my I-Mac just died as I was uploading pictures. Such a bummer :( (I do have a backup hard drive though, whew). I'll share as soon as my mac gets fixed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow our progress as we shape up our home and garden. Landscaping in the front yard- Part 1.

Grandmama Hodges : It is August already???
http://embroidererlinda.blogspot.com/2014/08/it-is-august-already.html
Monday, August 4, 2014. It is August already? Getting ready for the mission mostly, but I have done some embroidery in between. Trying to figure out what I need for 18 months is not easy, but in a way it is good because it forces me to sort thru everything. I have to empty the MBR because the youngest daughter will move in while we are away. How did I get so much stuff :-). 23 days till departure! This was a job that a friend asked me to do after seeing Suzy's:. The next set needs to be done by next week.
Grandmama Hodges : June 2014
http://embroidererlinda.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 5, 2014. I am constantly working on sewing, quilting and embroidery projects. Suzy will be teaching Chinese immersion to fourth graders next year and asked me to create some banners for her classroom. The problem is I do not know Chinese and needed some very specific instructions on creating. After some trial and error, I came up with these. Now I just need to hem and create a way to hang them. For Memorial Day and the Fourth of July I embroidered this:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Grandmama Hodges : May 2014

Sunday, May 18, 2014. We traveled to NJ for my step mother's funeral. She has been a part of our lives for 44 years. She was 94 years old and wanted to live to 100! The happy part of attending a funeral is getting to see and visit with many family and friends we have not seen for perhaps years. This is my Dad(on the left) and his brother, Uncle Peter. They enjoy each others company so much and you can sure see the family resemblance. I was a little tough for me, because I did not want to damage the gown ...

Freestyle Homemaking: Pack Meeting Plummet
http://freestylehomemaking.blogspot.com/2015/07/pack-meeting-plummet.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Big sister A went to Daddy's last Cub Scout Pack Meeting this week. A new Cub Master is taking over for him. While he was filling the new guy in, big sister A was playing tag on the stage in the gymnasium. It was pretty dark. She fell off the stage on her face. She seemed fine, but Daddy took her to the ER just to make sure that everything was okay. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Don't Throw That Away! Changing an old monogram. Grandmama Hodges : March 2014
http://embroidererlinda.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Cannot post current projects. I have been very busy this week, but some of my projects will be future gifts and I cannot give away the surprise. On Sunday we had an open house for Hermana Moyer as she leaves very soon for the Mexico City MTC. We had about 50 people and I think it was wonderful for her to have a chance to visit with everyone. I had easy foods and a special treat, Shrimp! Special treat for me, but all seemed to love). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Grandmama Hodges : Sewing room is officially closed...
http://embroidererlinda.blogspot.com/2014/08/sewing-room-is-officially-closed.html
Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Sewing room is officially closed. I am finishing up some last gifts and have to close up the sewing room as it will be used for storage while we are away for 18 months. A daughter and her friend will be renting two bedrooms during our absence. This requires moving lots of stuff into the sewing room. I will donate this week. Last is a gift that will soon be given, but took h-o-u-r-s to quilt, so I will share it. The sewing room is officially closed! Now back to packing!

Wednesday, July 23, 2014. New / Old Singer featherweight 221. We have been traveling for the last month and saw almost all of the children and their families. We also got to welcome two new grandchildren. They are the cutest! I especially love snuggling the newest ones. I have been looking at these machines for months as they are a favorite with quilters. I was so excited. I'm not sure if Betsi was wondering about me at that point! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Missionary Adventures and Spiritual Insights.
