South Notts Ringing Group: Holme Pierrepont, Saturday 25 July

http://southnottsringinggroup.blogspot.com/2015/07/holme-pierrepont-saturday-25-july.html

Monday, 27 July 2015. Holme Pierrepont, Saturday 25 July. A big event at the water sports centre today and the Triathlon on Sunday (which will involve Sunday road closures etc.) made us decide on a first visit of the season to the Blott’s (A52) end of Holme Pierrepont today. Chris popped in to Holme Pierrepont to hand back his rings and say goodbye prior to his imminent move to Arran. Chris will be missed, he has been a long standing, very knowledgeable and popular member of the group, our best wishe...

South Notts Ringing Group: Attenborough CES, Session 6, Saturday 27 June

http://southnottsringinggroup.blogspot.com/2015/06/attenborough-ces-session-6-saturday-27.html

Sunday, 28 June 2015. Attenborough CES, Session 6, Saturday 27 June. The sixth and final CES session for 2015 was carried out on Saturday. The forecast was good for Saturday but poor for Sunday and for once it was correct, the session was held in dry, calm and sunny conditions. The warm sun may not have helped us catch birds but it certainly kept the mosquitoes at bay. The team this week was Gary, Duncan, Alex, Tom and myself. South Notts Ringing Group: Recent recoveries

http://southnottsringinggroup.blogspot.com/2015/08/recent-recoveries.html

Monday, 10 August 2015. The first recovery from the Attenborough Sand Martin hide colony has been reported. A bird ringed as a nestling there on 16 June this year was controlled 130km south in Kent at Shorne Marshes. Hopefully we will start to see more recoveries of these birds as more move south, after a pretty successful second year of monitoring. Several Barn Owls have been recovered during various box-checking excursions around the East Midlands:. A Greenfinch (not that common! Holme Pierrepont, Sund...

Grampian Ringing Group: Wader Colour-Ringing

http://grampianringing.blogspot.com/2014/09/wader-colour-ringing.html

The website and blog of the Grampian Ringing Group. Wednesday, 17 September 2014. Following a busy spring and summer colour-ringing/darvicing/flagging some of our commoner wader species we are now busy searching for them and ringing more along the coast and estuaries. We’d be very grateful for any sightings. 40 Curlew chicks were colour-ringed/darviced this summer in Upper Donside, NE Scotland while 80 were marked in Orkney. Photo by Jenny Lennon. Grampian Ringing Group: Leucistic Oystercatcher chick

http://grampianringing.blogspot.com/2015/07/leucistic-oystercatcher-chick.html

The website and blog of the Grampian Ringing Group. Thursday, 2 July 2015. On Friday 27 June Brian Pirie and I went to Hazlehead Academy to investigate a report of a possible albino oystercatcher chick. When we got there we found the bird was leucistic. Leucism affects the plumage of birds as they lack the pigment cells which are responsible for melanin production. Fawn colour on the normally black parts with a blue-grey eye. We would be pleased to have any sightings of this bird. 2 January 2016 at 06:45.

In the summers of 2013 and 2014 we have been colour-ringing curlews in Aberdeenshire to look at brood survival and habitat use, as part of the RSPB's wider work locally in waders. On Orkney they have been doing similar and had lots of local sightings over the winter. Curlew chicks in Donside (Jenny Weston). Many thanks to Conn O'Brien for passing this on to us through Birdwatch Ireland. Welcome to the We...

Six nets are erected from 6am until noon on 12 occasions from May until early September. It means an early start to have all the nets open for 6am. It was an easy year as far as weather goes with no sessions cancelled but one or two were curtailed due to showers or windy conditions. Setting up the nets c Walter Burns. Water rail c Walter Burns. The website and blog of the Grampian Ringing Group. Tuesday, 18 February 2014. Waxwings on the move. We know it’s not a Waxwing winter when our friends in Orkney and Fair Isle haven’t ringed any. However, being the Waxwing capital of Britain (thanks to our location and large amount and variety of ornamental rowan trees and tree cotoneasters, well done the council!
