Jason Anderson – Teacher, teacher educator and author. You say TESOL and I say TESL, or TEFL, or Is the English language teaching world a community with identity issues? What’s the difference between ESL and EFL / ESOL / CELTA / TESOL / CertTESOL / TOEFL / EFL / ELF / ELL / EAL? What’s the difference between TESL and TEFL? Which is, if you think about it, quite a relative word in the given context Or that TEFL is kind of industry. But TESL relates to teaching ‘ immigrants and refugees’. The implications ...

Holes in the English language – Jason Anderson – Teacher, teacher educator and author

https://speakinggames.wordpress.com/2016/12/04/the-holes-in-the-english-language/comment-page-1

Jason Anderson – Teacher, teacher educator and author. Holes in the English language. Anyone who speaks two or more languages will be aware that there are linguistic ‘gaps’ in all languages. Given that English is now established as the predominant lingua franca of the world, the existence of such gaps can be at best inconvenient, and at worst, it may influence what we say or think (depending on how much you agree with the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. However, this blog is not. A phrase for ‘bon appétit’.

https://speakinggames.wordpress.com/2016/06/06/teaching-english-in-africa-wins-elton

Jason Anderson – Teacher, teacher educator and author. Teaching English in Africa wins ELTON award. My rather lengthy acceptance speech ( watch here. A unique, comprehensive resource for a previously neglected context of English teaching. Sure enough, when that dreaded heart-wrenching moment arrived, I was surprised and overjoyed to hear the presenter say those magic words:. The British Council Elton for local innovation goes to Teaching English in Africa…. How did the book originate? And later for UNICEF.

The hands up project. The hands up project. Stories from the HUP. PPP as a framework for teacher training. December 30, 2016. December 30, 2016. In 1990, when I first took some training to be a teacher of English as a foreign language, we were strongly encouraged to use the PPP (Presentation, Practice, Production) framework for planning lessons. Here’s a reminder of how it works…. By Don Byrne (1976) and its interesting that, even then, Byrne was suggesting that the stages didn’t necessarily need t...

Fiona’s SEN workshop, irregular verbs – English Language Teaching

https://eltlaura.wordpress.com/2015/12/10/fionas-sen-workshop-irregular-verbs

Fiona’s SEN workshop, irregular verbs. December 10, 2015. Group them into categories with a visual image: hamburgers, peas, a mother and twins, and a mixed bag of sweets. I know this works because one of the few things I remember from my high-school Spanish is ‘shoe verbs,’ irregular verbs that has the pattern of a shoe when conjugated. Just in case that image is too small:. A mother and twins:. A mixed bag of sweets. Thank you, Fiona, for another fabulous workshop 🙂. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. English...

How to share videos, photos, movenotes, etc. quickly using Padlet. November 23, 2016. One website I find invaluable for sharing my students’ work is padlet.com. This site allows you to create a webpage with its own url. When students access this site, they just have to click on the background and they can upload their projects. They can share photos, videos, text, anything really. I used it today after my class created news report videos on Movenote. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Reflection from a learner’s perspective: the inspiration. July 8, 2015. Reflection as a Teacher. In this workshop we were given a set of teacher beliefs, asked to rank them as. And then to discuss with people around us. I loved this stage because it got me reflecting on why I do things in the classroom. Then Jo-Ann and Madeleine told us about their experience as elementary Spanish learners and showed how this changed their beliefs. So interesting. Here’s the list they gave us to rank:. Before doing their...

雜七雜八

Thursday, May 28, 2015.
