About GSA and This Blog. A Memorable Gathering of Geoscientists hosted by the GSA International Section. By Nazrul I. Khandaker. It was an incredible experience to see so many geologists from all over the world (USA-Madagascar-China) coming to Denver to present their research and celebrate GSA’s 125th anniversary. At this meeting was the first time I learned about the global role that the GSA is playing. I would especially like to thank the GSA International Section. 8216;s long-standing collaboration wi...

The Geology P.A.G.E.: Guest Post - The 5 Largest Earthquakes Ever Recorded
http://jazinator.blogspot.com/2010/11/guest-post-5-largest-earthquakes-ever.html
Thursday, November 18, 2010. Guest Post - The 5 Largest Earthquakes Ever Recorded. So I was contacted a little while ago by someone wanting to write a guest blog post that would fall in line with the essence that is the Geoscience Education angle that the blog goes for. So I agreed after I heard her idea and this is what we have today, our first guest post from a fellow blogger in her own right, Alvina Lopez. Http:/ earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/facts.php. This guest post is contributed by. There was a serie...

Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Geology Through the Radio - Pompeii. Listening to the radio the other day this song caught my ear. Little did I realize what the title of the song was (Pompeii by Bastille). Then actually listening to the lyrics, I realized that that was what the song was actually about (not some fancy title that has nothing to do with the song what-so-ever). Here are a set of the lyrics. And the walls kept tumbling down. In the city that we love. Great clouds roll over the hills. View of the...

Monday, July 28, 2014. Dinos in Pop Culture - Salt Lake Comic Con. Here are some more dinosaurs in pop culture (I call this catching up on things):. During the previous Salt Lake Comic Con (September, 2013) there were these really cool dinosaur "costumes" roaming around the exhibit floor. Turns out they were for an exhibitor called "Dino Media" that had a website at www.dinoevent.com. However, that website appears to now be defunct and the Facebook page. Labels: Dinos in Pop Culture. Salt Lake Comic Con.
The Geology P.A.G.E.: Demonstrating Earthquake Effects Using Jell-O and Rice Crispy Treats

Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Demonstrating Earthquake Effects Using Jell-O and Rice Crispy Treats. Demonstrating Earthquake Effects Using Jell-O and Rice Krispy Treats. The effects that earthquakes have on the ground, and the buildings built upon it, all depends on the ground material. Bedrock will usually move as one solid object and sediment and mud will shake like Jell-O. The reason for this is a term called liquefaction. Make the unconsolidated sediment. I followed the directions for normal Jell-O o...

Thursday, June 26, 2014. Drunk on Geology - Black Opal. It has been a little while, but I have my next Drunk on Geology. Entry - Black Opal. Black Opal is a wine from Australia made by Mildara Blass. Thursday, February 26, 2015. Dinos in Pop Culture - Camp Makela T-Shirt. So I recently permanently retired one of my favorite t-shirts. It was from the Museum of the Rockies Paleontology Field Camp program to Camp Makela. My favorite thing about the t-shirt was the "I dig dinosaurs" on the back, which I never noticed for the longest time. I just assumed it was the same as the front. Links to this post. Thursday, January 29, 2015. Drunk on Geology - Inversion IPA. The next up in the Drunk on Geology. Series is Inversion IPA. Produced by Deschutes Brewery from Bend, Oregon. Salt Lake City on a nice day of inversion. A nice beer to calm all paranoia about what the inversion is doing to my lungs. A nice picture showing what an inversion looks like from above is pictured on the box. I just wish they had included some words on what the meaning of an inversion was on the box or the bottles. Speaking of Freedom - Great speeches of our time
Speaking of Freedom - Great speeches of our time. Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Energy Literacy (Saul Griffith). A really excellent talk explaining in detail the breakdown of planetary energy usage, what that means per person, and what we need to do in concrete terms to deal with planetary warming. An engineer's approach, you'll like this if you're sick of the intellectual vacuum in the global warming "debate", and want some cold hard facts. Tuesday, September 9, 2008. 2000 Sermons, 25 years, Some Observations (Part 3). This is the third and last post of my observations after 2000 sermons and 25 years of pastoral ministry. In the first two I talked about preaching. This one will be about people. Of course every pastor could share the good, bad, and ugly about people (and people could share the same about every pastor). I want to present this as the kind of people I have known and am thankful for. I have known and am very thankful for little old ladies who pray. There a...
Speaking of Grace
The sometimes elegant journey that is my life, written as it is lived, one day at a time. Monday, October 17, 2011. Barefoot on the beach. Just enjoying life and all the new thrills through the eyes of a two year old. Tuesday, July 26, 2011. My baby sister is now a newlywed. My house was the backdrop for this beautiful couple to say I do. My nephew was the "best little dude" and played dual roles for my sister and new brother in law. My dad and my sister rocked out! My older sister and I at the rehearsal.
