The Spice Satchel

Things we love: cooking, photography, crocheting, reading, math and board games. Friday, July 24, 2015. When I first started crocheting, I got hand cramps easily and often. I didn't have a comfortable way of holding the yarn, or the hook. Then I learned a yarn holding trick from my mom. I figured out the whole process was more like driving than tug of war. When driving you don't grip the steering wheel, you hold it steady and lightly. Same here. As you continue to work, the yarn should easily flow from t...

The Spice Satchel: Winter Spice

http://spicesatchel.blogspot.com/2015/02/winter-spice.html

Things we love: cooking, photography, crocheting, reading, math and board games. Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Winter spices are amazing. They are strong and warm and wonderful. My rice milk worked perfectly in my pumpkin pie! The winter spices came through much more than with the rice dream I used last time. And I used local maple syrup, literally made right down the road from my sister's farmhouse. I also used this syrup to make Paul's maple candy for his stocking for Christmas. So now to the good stuff.

The Spice Satchel: December 2011

http://spicesatchel.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Things we love: cooking, photography, crocheting, reading, math and board games. Sunday, December 25, 2011. Stitch yourself a very merry Christmas. I love making gifts for people! This year, I didn't make as many as years past, and some are not done (or started :/) yet. I DID make a stocking for Bennett, to go with the ones I made for the rest of the Fisks :). Then I made Mia a new blanket, because the one one I made her before has holes all over it! 1 scarf, 8 scarf: Merry Christmas! I love making scarv...

http://spicesatchel.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Things we love: cooking, photography, crocheting, reading, math and board games. Thursday, March 14, 2013. I love it when someone asks me if I can make them something! It makes me feel like people really like what I share that I have made. Like if I can make this thing, maybe I can make the thing they want too. It makes me feel special to be asked specifically if I can do something. So far, my answer has always been yes! Tuesday, March 12, 2013. I can do that! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Things we love: cooking, photography, crocheting, reading, math and board games. Saturday, February 28, 2015. 2 day pork soup. This is a slow cooker extravaganza! Julienne radishes, cucumbers, and pickled ginger-done! After dinner, remove bones and extra fat chunks from the crockpot, store a large portion of the pork in a container for more delicious sandwiches, and leave about a pound in the crockpot juices, stick the whole thing in the fridge. After about 3 hours, scoop some soup in a giant bowl, add y...

The Spice Satchel: January 2015

http://spicesatchel.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Things we love: cooking, photography, crocheting, reading, math and board games. Thursday, January 29, 2015. Handmade House: chair slippers. Useful, fun, and cute. They protect the floor we put in ourselves, and add another little handmade cute to my house. Plus a great stash buster, and cheap. We have a lot of different dining room chairs, from thrift stores and sales. Keeping costs down for a stay at home mom family is important sometimes. A little outer space. http://ohmeohmyohconnor.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Oh-me Oh-my. Oh-Connor. We would like to take this opportunity to give you a little glimpse of what is going on in the lives of the O'Connor's. Thursday, February 20, 2014. Gabriel is not a crafty kind of kid, he is AWESOME at a lot of things, but being crafty is not something he loves. If I want to color with him or cut or write he is good for about 5 minutes. This also means the fine motor skills is what he needs to work on. SO. I signed him up for Kiwi Crate! The first Crate came in the mail today!

Norwood Family Blog: Water Fun

http://norwoodarts.blogspot.com/2015/06/water-fun.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. One of Samuel and Becca's favorite things to do is play in the sprinkler. When they tire of that, they like to empty out the toy bins that we normally use to hold outside toys, and fill them with water from the hose. Then they sit in there (how, I don't know, since the water is freezing! They will play in there until their lips are blue and I have to drag them inside. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Norwood Family Blog: Walking Tour of Fort Wayne

http://norwoodarts.blogspot.com/2015/06/walking-tour-of-fort-wayne.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Walking Tour of Fort Wayne. In our district, each class gets to go on 1 field trip each year. This year the 3rd grade field trip was a walking tour of Fort Wayne. The kids learn about the history of town during the school year, then at the end, they get to go see the sites in person. This year I went as a chaperone with Samuel's class. Here are some pictures from the day. The entire class by the statue of Mad Anthony Wayne, who Fort Wayne is named after. At the history museum:.

Monday, January 13, 2014. Baby, it's (too) cold outside! Like most of the midwest, last week we had temperatures that were incredibly cold. The little numbers at the bottom of the thermometer show that it had actually warmed up from -13 to -9 in the past few hours.). What do you do when you have to stay inside for days on end? Because of course this snow came right after 2 weeks of no school due to Christmas break). Here are some of the things we did to stay busy:. 1 Bring some snow inside to play with:.

Monday, February 2, 2015. Becca is at the age where a lot of the things that come out of her mouth are very funny, some on purpose and some not. Here are some things she has said recently that have made us laugh:. To Samuel: "Sammy, you really should have a girlfriend by now. You're 9.". At dinner, telling us about her little friend at school whose name is Boston: "And I know what Boston's last name is too - Redsox! In the car: "Mom! I love this song. Can you hold my water bottle so I can dance?

Norwood Family Blog: Concoctions Class

http://norwoodarts.blogspot.com/2015/07/concoctions-class.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. One of the classes we are doing this summer is Concoctions Class (I think the official title might be "Icky, Sticky, Messy Fun" or something like that, but we always call that kind of play at home Concoctions, so we just call the class that too). It is offered through our Parks and Rec Dept, which always has really great programs for kids. So far in the class we have made:. Moon sand (like Kinetic sand). And we still have one more session of the class to go! View my complete profile.

We stayed in a hotel that had a pool, which the kids loved (isn't that most kids favorite part of any vacation? Here's Samuel doing a cannonball into the water:. Apparently not my kids. On our way home, we normally stop at a Dairy Queen for ice cream:. We had a great time on our trip to Evansville! Similar to the Princess Tea Party.

Oh-me Oh-my. Oh-Connor. We would like to take this opportunity to give you a little glimpse of what is going on in the lives of the O'Connor's. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Going to Paris so often has definitely spoiled Mike in the food and drink categories. His usual French breakfast is two croissants and an espresso. Every time he comes home he wants to try to make croissants and we finally did. After making the dough roll it out and let it chill for an hour. They turned out so yummy! This is my Life!

Saturday, March 30, 2013. Tiramisu Cheesecake: Need I Say More? To all of my dear followers,. I am back after yet another long hiatus (oh, the woes of graduate school)! However, what better way to mark my return than with this positively exquisite delight, otherwise known as "Tiramisu Cheesecake"? Well now, the name is pretty self-explanatory, and it should indeed be enough to stop you from working and make you immediately rush over to the grocery store so that it can soon be yours! 2 tbsp, white sugar.
