Your body. Your choices. Your future. A lesson on sexual responsibility. Those of you that may have come to join us as teens, volunteers or staff throughout May will know what a fantastic time we have had at Teen Club, as we have been learning about S. And responsibility. The amazing uncles and aunties from F. Had a very innovative and relevant approach to SRH for us. Where do babies come from? At Hlathikhulu Teen Club, I sat-in with the 10-11s, whom were presented with a short and simple lesson about.

HIV in Swaziland | Swaziland Teen Club
https://swazilandteenclub.wordpress.com/hiv-in-swaziland
In the world, it is estimated that approximately 1.8 million people are living with HIV/AIDS. Although just over 10% of the world’s population resides in Sub-Saharan Africa, almost 70% of people living with HIV/AIDS can be found there. Swaziland is at the top of the list. UNICEF estimated that in 2009 over 25% of adults from 15 29 were living with HIV; the highest prevalence in the world. There seemed to be some progress with efforts combating the infection; prevalence within pregnant women down from 42%...

So I’m passed the halfway mark here now, and the last few weeks have been eventful! Work has been going very well, and hits to the blogsite I’ve been helping with reached an all time peak in October! Hopefully thanks to some of you guys? But outside of work we have been busy too! I also visited a Rotaracts club fundraising BBQ, with the pork there almost as good as Korea!

Karla's Swazi Adventure: Out of the loop: Vic Falls
http://karlainafrica.blogspot.com/2010/12/out-of-loop-vic-falls.html
The ramblings of a grad student in Swaziland for 6 months for her dream practicum. Friday, December 10, 2010. Out of the loop: Vic Falls. Just a quick note to let you know I will be out of the loop till the 18th, as I leave in the morning for Victoria Falls via Joburg (to spend a night with my girls Yaby and Amy). I'll be in touch if possible from there, but its pretty unlikely. Please don't call my mom panicking that I died because I didn't write for a while. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Karla's Swazi Adventure: Vic Falls Trip Day 1 - 2
http://karlainafrica.blogspot.com/2010/12/vic-falls-trip-day-1-2.html
The ramblings of a grad student in Swaziland for 6 months for her dream practicum. Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Vic Falls Trip Day 1 - 2. Dec 11-12: En Route to the Falls. Sunday morning I was up early and off to the Falls! The flight to Livingstone was super easy going up, only like 1/3 full, and offered amazing views from the air. A double entry visa in to Zambia (where I flew in to) was a whopping $80 USD, so thank god I had dollars with me! The Falls sound like…well, I was going to say like a fr...

The ramblings of a grad student in Swaziland for 6 months for her dream practicum. Friday, October 29, 2010. So last weekend, I went on a crazy adventure with Ahila ( see photos from Moza below to know who I am talking about. One question to start with: How the hell did they find a pool ( a clean, nice, free pool. In the middle of Swaziland to play in? So after Ahila and I finally made it out there ( we had to stop at Swazi candles for her to go shopping and brunch. Cameron's hut is awesome and his famil...

The ramblings of a grad student in Swaziland for 6 months for her dream practicum. Wednesday, September 29, 2010. I've been negligent, I know. I'm sorry. Consider my last post my excuse letter for not writing much as of late. Also, I've been in government meetings trying to get the left arm to play with the right, and its been far more complicated than it should be. At least I (sort of) accomplished something today. While I love this country, I think I'll love it more once I've had a couple days away.
Karla's Swazi Adventure: Burning and Bartering
http://karlainafrica.blogspot.com/2010/12/burning-and-bartering.html
The ramblings of a grad student in Swaziland for 6 months for her dream practicum. Sunday, December 12, 2010. My friend Eric, who went to Vic Falls about a month ago with his wife (and my friend) Kerry warned me yesterday that if I had anything I could barter with, I would be rewarded with some awesome handicrafts at the market. Also, my mom told me under no circumstances was I allowed to adopt a child while I was here. She never said anything about a Peace Corp Volunteer! Or the Baylor Int'l Pediatric A...

Just another WordPress.com site. Archives for the month of: November, 2011. Making the most of the weekends. . . November 20, 2011. After a lot of deliberation and pleading, we were given 2 days off! Twinned with a long weekend 5 days of freedom were bestowed upon us! Portuguese-speaking Mozambique was our planned destination and we headed off bright and early on Thursday morning. After visiting the fabric shop (fun), we caught a taxi to the famous fish market. Claimed by our American boss to have se...
