Tales from Swallow Farm: 08/01/2015 - 09/01/2015

http://talesfromswallowfarm.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Follow the adventures of John, Sue and Geronimo (Gerry) the cat as they attempt to live the dream on Swallow Farm. Birdlife on the farm (wild birds). Sunday, 30 August 2015. Two Little Ducks - Quack Quack. Just over a month ago one of our ducks went missing. Shortly after, I noticed that there were only ten guinea fowl roosting on the fence at night (there should be 12). Now there are only 9 guinea fowl every night. So what's been going on? Do we have a case of poultry poaching? Are the birds getting ill?

Tales from Swallow Farm: Don't worry, bee happy!

http://talesfromswallowfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/dont-worry-bee-happy.html

Follow the adventures of John, Sue and Geronimo (Gerry) the cat as they attempt to live the dream on Swallow Farm. Birdlife on the farm (wild birds). Saturday, 15 August 2015. Don't worry, bee happy! As I write, the sweetcorn is still intact. I have however caught my first field mouse of the autumn in the polytunnel traps, plus two voles (short-tailed field voles to be precise). There was a single rat dropping in the polytunnel too and there is the familiar smell of rodents in the stables. It is importan...

Tales from Swallow Farm: 06/01/2015 - 07/01/2015

http://talesfromswallowfarm.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Follow the adventures of John, Sue and Geronimo (Gerry) the cat as they attempt to live the dream on Swallow Farm. Birdlife on the farm (wild birds). Thursday, 25 June 2015. Polyculture, the way forward? This is close to the image I had in my head of what I wanted my veg plot to look like, but I've strayed a long way from it, lured by neat lines and rotavated empty spaces. One bed in particular caught my eye. For just a few months ago it was a strawberry bed, before we did this to it! A further benefit i...

Tales from Swallow Farm: Onions galore

http://talesfromswallowfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/onions-galore.html

Follow the adventures of John, Sue and Geronimo (Gerry) the cat as they attempt to live the dream on Swallow Farm. Birdlife on the farm (wild birds). Friday, 7 August 2015. It's been a good year for onions. This could be due to the weather we've had, or it could be that I've finally learned how to grow them properly. Probably the former. Early April and the onion sets are all. Neatly laid out. They'll be netted just. Until the roots take hold properly. Onions drying in the sun. They won't need long in th...

Follow the adventures of John, Sue and Geronimo (Gerry) the cat as they attempt to live the dream on Swallow Farm. Birdlife on the farm (wild birds). Wednesday, 20 May 2015. An Amazing Three Weeks. No blog posts for 3 weeks! Where have I been? Well I've been on an incredible adventure. An adventure right here. Our first ever lambs. My 500th bird species in Britain. A massive landmark. Our first goose-reared goslings. Boris - our first puppy. And my 502nd the next day! I learn the dark art of welding.

Tales from Suburbia | Because funny was born in a tract home.

Because funny was born in a tract home. Posted on April 27, 2015. So, you’re unemployed. The words rang in my ears. I recognized each word but somehow the way that woman strung them together just didn’t make sense to me. My world froze in that moment. Nobody is going to accidentally walk away with this thing in their pocket, I told the receptionist as I held up the pen with the huge daisy theft control device adhered to it. Sounds like pneumonia, probably here for a chest x-ray. The mother smiled at me a...

Tales from Sunnyslope

Thursday, May 5, 2011. I refuse to pay rent. I was raised with the Monopoly mindset: It does not matter how much money you make or how many times you pass Go, but how much property you own. Wealth lies in two things: Not having to pay rent, and being able to charge others rent. Unless you're a college student. I'm offered $20,000 in financial aids and student loans each year. My goal. to be able to buy a home by the time my financial aid comes in in January 2012. Tuesday, April 5, 2011. This blog will be...

Tales from Swallow Barn

Wednesday, 19 March 2014. Tuesday, 18 March 2014. And it is nearly my mum's birthday, and having just lost her dad, I wanted to do something nice for her. I saw Kristen's wonderful earrings. Friday, 14 March 2014. I've finished my March socks, and I'm so pleased with them - thick, warm and rustic-looking in a lovely bright mustard colour. I used the Rye Socks. Pattern from Tin Can Knits. They are making my feet very happy indeed! Wednesday, 5 March 2014. Well on the Way . Tuesday, 4 March 2014. To be hon...

Tales from table rock. . . . Life with horses, kids and grandkids. Monday, May 11, 2015. May 11, 2015 How my mother's day went. Did you see all that crazy weather we had last week? It was like sun, rain, fog, hail, more rain, more hail, floods, tornado.you name it we saw it. Then Saturday night, the snow started and kept on coming. Clyde starts out with "Are you going to get coffee this morning? No, not in this mess.". Well, I need coffee beans and tea, so I'm going," replied Clyde. Clyde: Do you have it...

Monday, July 7, 2014. The ward sang "Till we meet again" yesterday as the closing hymn at church, and I was a sobbing mess. This week is going to be crazy. Today we shop for pizza supplies, I buy a suit, and we shoot an advertisement for our Preach My Gospel class. Tuesday we have a Zone meeting. Wednesday we have an English Party and my Taiwanese mom, Sister Zhang, is visiting me! Saturday we are throwing a Pizza Party (we will be making about 40 pizzas!
