Tales from Taichung

Monday, July 7, 2014. The ward sang "Till we meet again" yesterday as the closing hymn at church, and I was a sobbing mess. This week is going to be crazy. Today we shop for pizza supplies, I buy a suit, and we shoot an advertisement for our Preach My Gospel class. Tuesday we have a Zone meeting. Wednesday we have an English Party and my Taiwanese mom, Sister Zhang, is visiting me! Saturday we are throwing a Pizza Party (we will be making about 40 pizzas! To all of the members throughout the week. That p...

Tales from Taichung: 10 March 2014

http://www.talesfromtaichung.blogspot.com/2014/07/10-march-2014.html

Tuesday, July 1, 2014. A couple got married this weekend in our ward, and a common tradition the Chinese have is to share "wedding cake" with their friends. There are many different kinds of filling in the cakes, but my favorite one is the candied pineapple cake. So good! Another couple is getting married next week, so we get more cake! He's a fantastic leader, and he's like a father to me. I'm going to miss working with him when I leave. The site has not been translated yet. From Everett, Washington, US...

Tales from Taichung: 7 April 2014

http://www.talesfromtaichung.blogspot.com/2014/07/7-april-2014.html

Thursday, July 3, 2014. This week was the week of Grave Sweeping. Us missionaries got together in a big group and cleaned all the vacated graves. It was great fun to get together with a lot of friends and pull weeds and sweep ashes. Service rocks! While cleaning one spot I found a leftover piece of human vertebrae. Bone is surprisingly light, almost like a sponge. Perhaps this is because it's ten-year-old bone, but all the same. It freaked some of the sisters out. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Tales from Taichung: 21 April 2014

http://www.talesfromtaichung.blogspot.com/2014/07/21-april-2014.html

Thursday, July 3, 2014. The last few weeks were a drag. Our situation was looking so bleak. Besides our few progressing investigators, we had no other investigators or members we were working with. So our days were full of mindless contacting and getting rejected. Sister Blickenstaff had told me earlier how much she loved the map that we had passed out in a fireside, and that she had saved her copy for future inspiration. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Tales from Taichung: 17 March 2014

http://www.talesfromtaichung.blogspot.com/2014/07/17-march-2014.html

Tuesday, July 1, 2014. One common question that enters my mind frequently is, "What is God trying to teach me? The experiences I've had on my mission are extraordinary. I've had good moments, and plenty of trying ones too. The times when I ask this question the most are when I am experiencing large amounts of doubt. Am I doing the right thing? Was that the correct choice? Was that really revelation from the Holy Ghost, or are those my own thoughts? Am I doing my best work? Was supposed to bless her to ge...

Wednesday, 19 March 2014. Tuesday, 18 March 2014. And it is nearly my mum's birthday, and having just lost her dad, I wanted to do something nice for her. I saw Kristen's wonderful earrings. Friday, 14 March 2014. I've finished my March socks, and I'm so pleased with them - thick, warm and rustic-looking in a lovely bright mustard colour. I used the Rye Socks. Pattern from Tin Can Knits. Follow the adventures of John, Sue and Geronimo (Gerry) the cat as they attempt to live the dream on Swallow Farm. Birdlife on the farm (wild birds). Saturday, 15 August 2015. Don't worry, bee happy! As I write, the sweetcorn is still intact. I have however caught my first field mouse of the autumn in the polytunnel traps, plus two voles (short-tailed field voles to be precise). There was a single rat dropping in the polytunnel too and there is the familiar smell of rodents in the stables. It is importan...

OR) Amanda's Adventures in Albuquerque. Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Why is it so hard to get a haircut around here? My hair was getting really really bad. With two weeks left to go until I returned to Saint Louis, I had quite the dilemma. Do I wait until I get back to STL and my favorite hair stylist, Callie? Do I fork over the big bucks for a fancy, but still probably crappy haircut? Or do I just go somewhere cheap and get a probably crappy, but potentially decent haircut? Then on the subsequent plates he add...

A Diva Survives Africa. Thursday, September 04, 2008. I just checked and discovered that my last entry was on the 11th of last month! I've been AWOL for nearly a month now! I actually have some good reasons (at least I. 1 My sister in law, with whom I get on famously, came to town. We seemed to spend the entire time talking and doing not much else. During one marathon session which lasted from 7pm to 4 am, I lost my voice and ended up croaking for two days! 1 'Ghost' still provides great entertainment ev...
