Tales From the Bearpit. Thursday, October 23, 2008. Social networking and students. Which Bill emailed me. The discussion about it on. Tales From the Bearpit: August 2005

http://talesfromthebearpit.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

Tales From the Bearpit. Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Graffiti, good or bad? I was about to post. This story from BBC Lincolnshire. With a comment to ask why they are stressing. This wall looks better with the graffiti than without it. And found I was suddenly not so enamoured of the graffiti artists. Who would want to spoil cute trains like these? So is graffiti a legitimate expression of identity, a way of marking one's existence just like blogging or autobiography, or wanton vandalism? I used to have a ...

Poem last night and while I was looking for something else today and avoiding planning my professorial lecture I found this one which people might like. I used to have it on my wall at work. I need a rest.

Tales From the Bearpit. Thursday, August 31, 2006. The difficulty with graffiti in other languages. Is knowing if the person who wrote it knew what they were doing/was sober/ etc. Two of us- me with kind of okay French, and a bilingual Swiss friend (well, multi-lingual of course really, being Swiss, but a fluent French speaker) tried to make sense of this from a wall in Cluny. We think it is something along the lines of 'one could have built, written poems on the walls,? Wednesday, August 30, 2006.

Simply Clare's simple thoughts. Sunday, July 31, 2005. Ok Just a quick post. You may already have tried this. but, just use Google to search for 'miserable failure'. The results are gratifying. Digital Beginnings: April 2009

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 29 April 2009. Well I said I wasn't interested in using Twitter but then I saw Martin Waller's Year 2 class tweets. And changed my mind. Of course Martin is ahead of the proposed curriculum changes. In England and will therefore be a beacon of good practice when other primary schools start to tweet. My tweets are here. But as you can see I am only just getting the hang of it and the children in Martin's class are much more accomplished tweeters! Posted by Jackie Marsh. Friday, 24 April 2009.

Digital Beginnings: March 2009

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 29 March 2009. Attended the Virtual World Best Practices in Education (VWBPE) conference. I am still a relative newbie when it comes to presenting in SL so thank goodness that the cool and collected (and impeccably dressed) Sheila Yoshikawa. Was the chair for my session. In the meantime, back to the online MA New Literacies. More virtual learning, but with a lower 'emotional bandwith' than you get with the use of avatars (something I learned at VWBPE! Digital Beginnings: May 2009

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 27 May 2009. I have been enjoying using Twitter, but am anxious that it is taking time away from blogging. Just as I was thinking this, Joanne posted on her blog. On this very topic! So I am not alone. I have decided to try and follow Guy's. Suggests. These intertextual practices can only lead to more daft 'twittery' names, so how about 'Twogging', or 'Blittering'? Sorry, it must be this playground rhymes project I am involved in.). Posted by Jackie Marsh. Wednesday, 20 May 2009. I don't think...

Monday, 15 June 2009. Join the UGC revolution. Another day, another social networking site for tweenies. ITwixie. Tag line 'join the revolution') is aimed at girls and is certainly less saccharine than some sites that have been developed. However, if you had any doubt about the demographic profile of its key users, then you just have to look at the videos here. A site that users can upload videos in which they lip synch or dance to songs - a little like the site Bedroom TV. Posted by Jackie Marsh. I am b...

Digital Beginnings: September 2008

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, 25 September 2008. I am in Dublin for the Reading Association Ireland Conference - and although it is a short visit, as I have to return to teach on our MA Early Childhood Education. I have already learned so much about the current use of technologies in the Irish literacy curriculum. Teachers I have spoken to are looking forward to acquiring interactive whiteboards in the years ahead, as they are not yet widespread, and so I recommend reading this report. Posted by Jackie Marsh. Digital Beginnings: July 2009

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, 12 July 2009. Just returned from the UKLA conference at Greenwich, which was excellent. Many highlights, including Lynda Graham’s symposium with Martin Waller and Angela Colvert sharing their excellent classroom practice in relation to digital literacies, and Angela Thomas’s. And just when I thought the weekend couldn't get better, I wandered into Greenwich market and found these gorgeous handmade handbags. So all in all, a very successful conference. See you next year in Winchester? This blog is...

Digital Beginnings: August 2009

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Monday, 31 August 2009. Bye, bye blog (for now). This is a sad post for me, but I have decided to suspend my blogging activity for now. That is because I am to take on the role of Head of School of Education tomorrow for three years and whilst I consider myself to be quite good at multi-tasking, I am not that. Good If I get time to do any online social networking at all in the near future, I intend to focus my attention on the School of Education Twitter stream ( here. Posted by Jackie Marsh. Digital Beginnings: California dreaming...

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2009/06/california-dreaming.html

Monday, 8 June 2009. Well, all very well that the Terminator wants to move Californian schools from using textbooks to online texts, but it would appear. That the motive is more about saving money than any desire to take schools into the digital age - where is the investment in laptops and mobile technologies for schools in your state, Governor Schwarzenegger? Digital Beginnings: June 2009

http://digitalbeginnings.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, 28 June 2009. In all of the Michael Jackson hoo-hah, you may have missed the news. That half of British children aged 5-9 apparently own a mobile phone. This is now a prime market for new hardware and so we see the advent of the Firefly. Phone, aimed at young kids. I liked Tim Dowling's tongue-in-cheek piece in the Guardian. SighI am going to email this webpage. Posted by Jackie Marsh. Monday, 15 June 2009. Join the UGC revolution. That I have blogged about previously, except U Rock 2 is specific...

Tales From the Beautiful Isle - A Taiwan Blog

Tales From the Beautiful Isle - A Taiwan Blog. Expat life in Taipei. Monday, 18 January 2016. Tales From the Beautiful Isle has been sadly neglected lately, partly because the current cold, rainy weather is preventing many excursions, and partly because my time has been taken up with writing. One of the best things that has happened to me in Taiwan is that I've had the time and freedom to develop this side of my career. Here are some of the TWG crowd, in a photo kindly taken by Craig Ferguson. Launch too...

grace, peace & an ample bit of crazy

Tuesday, June 26, 2012. The Trappist monk Thomas Keating once said, 'The cross Jesus asked you to carry is yourself. It's all the pain inflicted on you in your past, and all the pain you've inflicted on others.'…My cross suddenly became too heavy, and I couldn't carry it. I just couldn't.". I have said countless times that losing our illusions is difficult because our illusions are the stuff we live by.". It is the message of grace. Brennan manning, all is grace. Links to this post. Tales From the Bedside

Tales From the Bedside. Saturday, January 10, 2009. Self-Imposed Ban on Pharmaceutical Swag is Bogus. Thursday, March 20, 2008. 160;No, because so many of our state's public servants are only concerned about keeping their own jobs and keeping the subsidies coming into their own sectors.  They really don't care about trying to get costs down.  Everyone just wants to keep spending more and keep letting more people into the system that would only require even more spending. Medical Catastrophe and the Quaids.
