Themes and Influences - Tamsin Abbott

http://www.tamsinabbott.co.uk/about/themes-and-influences

Stained Glass Artist and Illustrator. Working with glass has really helped me appreciate and be inspired by these things. When I painted my first hare a few years ago I had no idea of the connection I was making and the relationship I was forming! So many people are drawn to the hare and I am often asked why so much of my work contains hares. I think it could be because the hare embodies all those aspects of nature that we want to believe in, that it is wild, clever, bold and free. Latest News and Events.

A Group Gathering: December 2014

http://agroupgathering.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, 4 December 2014. Finding Inspiration: Mariette Voke. There's a certain pleasure which comes from finding small, almost inconsequential, everyday objects,. Which have been demoted to 'junk' over the passage of time yet give a glimpse of social history past. For example, the discovery of the 'Daphne Bryant' name tapes and all of the questions such a find poses. Project which I’ll be working on between now and the spring. Mariette Voke December 2014. Friday, 31 July 2015. Sounds of Laughter, Shades of Light. Looking back, it has been a really busy month for me, with lots of getting out and about, which I love. July has brought sunshine in other ways. You might recall that I painted a ceramic hare for the Cirencester Hare Festival (currently on display in Framemakers Gallery. In the town). Well I was lucky enough to attend the opening night of The Names of the Hare exhibition at the New Brewery Arts. Celestine and The Hare. They are a limited run of 2...

Friday, 10 October 2014. The Project Brief 2015. This week they found out. Each artist received a small parcel of items and the following instructions:. In your parcel you will find a single, pale glove and some Cash’s woven name tapes. This is the base material to be used in a piece of artwork made by you as a participating member of the 2015 Group Gathering project. The Daphne Bryant name tapes were found in a junkshop in North Herefordshire in their original, possibly 1930’s, box. The box ha...The inv...

Green woodworking | Mike Abbott's Living Wood

https://goingwiththegrain.org/tag/green-woodworking

Mike Abbott's Living Wood. Posts Tagged ‘Green woodworking’. A lifelong ambition fulfilled. Posted by Mike Abbott in Making chairs. The Man who Made Things out of Trees. We’ve had two more successful courses, the first one with a lovely bunch of people, all making spindle-backs and coming up with several more clever tricks to help make chairs (I’ll write these up in the winter). They also explored further into the realms of seat-weaving. Some impressive seats on the course in July. Starting on 20th Augus...

For 30 years I have been running green woodwork courses and writing books on the subject. My main ambition is to enable as many people as possible to share in the delights of engaging fully with woodlands, trees and wood. In my illustrated, engraved stained glass panels I try to create a world that reflects the magic of the real world around us; the trees, birds and beasts, myths and fairytales, and our hidden memories of our ancestors. Memorial to Tamsin Stewart, 2001 - 2008.

2007 was a very happy year with a trip to Finland visiting our friends and a special family holiday in the summer. On May 12th 2008, Shonas 9th birthday, Tamsin was diagnosed with a Pontine Glioma Brain Tumour. From the start we were told the treatment would be palliative care. Steve and I didnt know the journey we were in for but clung on to God throughout the next 8 months. Tamsin had an amazing faith which grew over the months and she loved nothing more than reading a story from her childrens bible.
