I first visited Uganda on my elective as a medical student where, just weeks before leaving and having had multiple plans fall through, I took a place at Kiwoko Hospital as they had a last minute gap. I ended…

Adventures as I step out to live and work in Uganda for five months. March 6, 2016. March 6, 2016. I have now been here at Kiwoko for just over a week. It has already been a rollercoaster of experiences and emotions, and in many respects I feel like I have been here months already! It is hard to know where to begin, but I will try my best. So I was a bit of a zombie by the time our car had rumbled its way up the dusty potholed track to the hospital. Motorbikes) navigate fruit stalls and people and chicke...

One month in – tea and travels

https://teaandtravelsblog.wordpress.com/2016/03/29/one-month-in

Adventures as I step out to live and work in Uganda for five months. March 29, 2016. As I sit here there is a storm raging outside. Thunder rumbles and rain pounds at our tin roof so loudly that it can be difficult to do anything other than stop and marvel at it. Over the last few days the rainy season has been coming in, bringing welcome relief to the heat, if only for a short time. We got there eventually though and the pizza was delicious. I will try not to leave it too long without an update! I love ...

Adventures as I step out to live and work in Uganda for five months. Drawing to a close. June 26, 2016. June 26, 2016. As my time here in Kiwoko is drawing to a close, I am ashamed to realise this is only my third blog post! Time seems to have begun to accelerate, and there have been so many interesting experiences, more than I will be able to capture in just one post. Photos taken with permission from the mother: before and after treatment. Visiting the crater lakes. Our good friend Denis. As I travel b...

Volunteering with RCPCH Global Links in Kiambu, Kenya. May 16, 2016. As I approach 4 months in Kenya, so much about living here is just normal now. tea & traditions

Tuesday, December 7, 2010. TEA and TRADITIONS FAREWELL. It is with great sadness that I announce that Tea and Traditions will be closing at the end of this month. It has been an amazing three years and I am grateful for the people I have met and the opportunities it has provided me. It is getting increasingly difficult to keep up with a growing family and business. IT'S A GREAT TIME TO BUY THOSE CHRISTMAS GIFTS! I will miss all of my customers, being at One of a Kind and most of all being your "tea lady".

Adventures as I step out to live and work in Uganda for five months. I spent a fantastic three months doing a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at Liverpool to learn more about working in a resource-poor setting before going away. We had the privilege of being taught by some amazing lecturers and learning more about worms than I ever knew was possible. By the end of it we had a bizarre fascination with looking at stool samples down a microscope! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
