The Gift of Tongues. Waiting for the Light to Change. Waiting for the Light to Change. Sarah’s had difficult years before – what high school teacher hasn’t? Annette Haws hit a homerun. Ms. Haws clearly understands the vast issues facing teachers as they deal with their own personal lives and the lives of their students. Parents of students will gain a greater insight into the dynamics of adolescent students, their peers, and their teachers in this novel of teenage traumas and adult dilemmas.

The Gift of Tongues. Waiting for the Light to Change. August 22, 2013. A Gift of Tongues. I have a new short story, “A Gift of Tongues” in the Fall issue of Dialogue. What’s it about? Global warming, drought, raging pandemics that kill small children and old people, the Seventh Article of Faith, the solidarity of women, and the futility of coloring gray hair. In short, there is something for everyone who enjoys being anxious. August 8, 2013. A New Book: The Accidental Marriage. Release date: December 2013.

The Gift of Tongues. Waiting for the Light to Change. If you’re looking for framed diplomas, Minerva smiled with a sniff in her voice. there’s a shrink five doors down the hall. You know, one of those Type A foot tappers who dispense pills with wild abandon. Oh And Rachel had a fleeting visual of white coated doctors flinging prescription pharmaceuticals from the back of a Twenty-fourth of July float as grubby children raced across the black asphalt to gobble them up. Mrs Hobbs, Minerva began. A fair ass...

The Gift of Tongues. Waiting for the Light to Change. Sometimes I think awards say more about the judges than the work, but nevertheless, I was very pleased to have Waiting for the Light to Change win two awards in the spring of 2009. The Whitney Awards are sponsored by the association of LDS writers, but bookstore managers, authors, prominent bloggers, and publishers all have a vote. The Whitney Awards was also a fun evening and an opportunity to put faces with prominent names in Mormon fiction.

Hey Pushing a road bike, Warren called to her from the lane. Mary, Mary quite contrary? Dropping her hoe between her tomato plants, she stepped over the bush beans to kiss her husband’s cheek. Mary’s not so contrary. Be careful, she muttered. Watch out for trucks. He won’t nurse. I’ve had him in his little tub, but he’s not cooling down. Can you come? She’d nev...

The Gift of Tongues. Waiting for the Light to Change. Dialogue: Journal of Mormon Thought, Winter 2010. Boyd was tall and handsome and smart and important, and he was married to her. Other women might have more romance in their lives, but she had Boyd. When the chitchat at her quilting group or Church socials turned to exotic locales, she deftly turned the conversation to the wonderfulness of Boyd. We’re here, he said, smiling expansively. With only a moment’s trepidation, she felt the plane’s tires touc...
