http://themissinglinka.com/portfolio_page/trimcamp

I began Trim Camp in 2005 and since then I have documented on six grow farms in three counties. Up to now, I have focused much of my creative energy on harvest season, a unique time of year when people migrate to work. Many trimmers are thrust into situations where they don’t know anyone, in homes with little to-no modern amenities, and smothered by cannabis plants in various stages of production. Trim Camp was Shortlisted for the Burn EMF Grant, 2013. October - November, 2005 - 2010.

Come July, Burma to begin rolling out health insurance – Fifty Viss

https://viss.wordpress.com/2015/06/17/come-july-burma-to-begin-rolling-out-health-insurance

A collection of thoughts and writings on Burma. Come July, Burma to begin rolling out health insurance. Working in the American health care sector has intensified my fascination with the health care landscape, the complex interplays between patient and provider, government and business sector, and the competing motivators of money versus care. So the Finance Ministry’s announcement that health insurance is coming to Burma let me feeling like this was a bit premature. Under limited circumstances, death wi...

https://viss.wordpress.com/2015/07/07/food-for-thought-depolicitizing-ethnicity-in-burma

A collection of thoughts and writings on Burma. Food for thought: depolicitizing ethnicity in Burma. Robert H. Taylor, a prominent Burma studies scholar, has penned an excellent article on the emotive ethnic-based political troubles that Burma is currently mired in. I’ve written before about the man-made construct of ‘race,’. And the transformation of regional affiliations to ethnic-based ones during the colonial period. He provides important context political machinations we are observing in Burma today.

A collection of thoughts and writings on Burma. 3 key governance issues facing Burma today. In March 2015, Asian Development Bank (ADB) released an excellent working paper, “Myanmar: Cross-Cutting Governance Challenges,”. That provides a sweeping outline of the myriad governance plaguing the country’s path toward economic development. No 1: State influence on the economy. Overnment connections present obvious conflicts of interest. The state still has a disproportionate role in the finance sector, wi...

A collection of thoughts and writings on Burma. The origins of ‘laphet’. I’ve always wondered why Burmese is an outlier among many languages in the world when it comes to tea. Some thoughts on the construct of race – Fifty Viss

https://viss.wordpress.com/2012/07/08/some-thoughts-on-the-construct-of-race

A collection of thoughts and writings on Burma. Some thoughts on the construct of race. The Burmese government has been very successful at propagating the myth of the 135 ethnic groups in Burma, or the myth of the 8 “national races.” Anybody who delved into the actual list would realize how arbitrary this “counting” is. Yet this myth continues to be propagated by international media and the Burmese alike. It’s pure ignorance. The Economist’s article “The idea of Myanmar”. I have no idea what to say more.

Twas the night before Christmas Eve and all through the Linkous house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse (we hope! Because we loaded up the car and set out for California! We made it to Vegas around 3:30 am and crashed in beds lovingly made for us by Jody and Co. in their family room. THANK YOU, Jody! We woke up and had a traditional treat from Tom of egg mcmuffins for breakfast before finishing the drive to Temecula.

The Missing Link - Homemade sausages, Recipes & Reviews

I mean, imagine for a moment that Italian chefs were as unimaginative as British one's and decided to bake a doughy dish with sausages nestled in it.
