A book blog by Mark Searcy
The Nowhere Special: TSSSS!
http://thenowherespecial.blogspot.com/2011/02/tssss.html
Advertising really is a crazy game. Essentially, it's about making a name circulate though an audience of competing demands. You could be the most brilliant shoemaker in the world, but if no one ever hears about you and the brilliance of your shoes, then the only one to benefit from the shoes is the shoemaker. Bah! It's only a matter of convincing confidence—brilliance also sparkles! Get out there and prop up your hot pokers on top of the already cold pokers! Well now you have! To add to the Nike TSSSS!
The Nowhere Special: Pooping Pegasus
http://thenowherespecial.blogspot.com/2011/02/pooping-pegasus.html
Creatures from the depths of the internet, I summon thee from atop my unicorned pegasus who poops on anyone and anything I command. Down there, quick! I see a man pointing up at us, waving his arms. Hello down there! I see you. Poop on him pegasus! And circle back so we can do it again! He's running now, protecting his eyes, covered in poop number one. Here goes poop number two! He's screaming mad things up at us—curses! They're already upon us! And unicorn them to death! And that one too!
The Nowhere Special: Chicken Wrap
http://thenowherespecial.blogspot.com/2011/02/chicken-wrap.html
Feelings feel freshest in the morning, but tonight the dullness of the day-long day will do. A slip of the wrist and a slap of the tongue—flip-flap-flap—chicken wrap! Unwrapping the cellophane, it crinkles. Chick-chick-chicken smell mixed with mayonnaise and cheese. Green lettuce stickin' out—showin' through the seams—as the tortilla strips with wet finger tips. Yup! Chick-chick-chicken. Chew-chew-chicken. Doo-doo-dickin' around. Spit it out, all over my computer screen. It's sticking! Nonsense. The ...

That's What You Read: Spitting Worms
http://thatswhatyouread.blogspot.com/2011/11/spitting-worms.html
There's nothing you can do about it now. The venom! Makes you see double double. It's inside your eyes eyes! Now you have two little worms inside your mind that will spend their whole lives looking for each other. Unless! You still have time to cross your eyes and hope that they find each other before your venom-tears dry up. If it was a success, then your thoughts will become flooded with a million baby worms and you'll suddenly feel a wave of nostalgia for these words. It will look like firewords!
That's What You Read: August 2011
http://thatswhatyouread.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Should I stay upset or should I just let it go? The choice seems obvious obvious obvious! Yet I can't seem to see anything but the reasons I'm upset. You have no reason not to! What's done is over. That's it! And all these reasons are dead which I have been dragging around all day—. Dead weight dragging—. As I let them go and drop them. And walk away feeling lighter. Now go wash your hands you dirty man. And smile smile smile! That's What You Read. That's What You Read. Read more of Mark's writing at.
That's What You Read: July 2012
http://thatswhatyouread.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
I've been working and worrying so much that my vision is clouded with future fears and present states of being. So I shake my head and toss my worries aside! There I can almost see something moving! A light. A crack—big enough for a thought of a finger to pick through the layers of dust that have formed a thick crust that crumbles with finger flicks. Pushing my head through, it appears that I am peeking out of the middle of a cliff! I seem to have stopped falling and am just standing on the empty air.
That's What You Read: Dispatch from Inside the Internet
http://thatswhatyouread.blogspot.com/2011/11/dispatch-from-inside-internet.html
Dispatch from Inside the Internet. I was planted inside this website just two days ago, and already I'm overwhelmed by all the windows that have opened up to me. When I peek out of them, I see people like you staring down at me, making faces while they read. Then SLAM! They close the window abruptly, and leave me in the darkness with the ghost of the last look on their face to haunt me. It dances in the corners, and follows wherever I look. Eventually, it wears off. Spooked. That's What You Read.

poet on tilt: The Daryl Effect
http://poetontilt.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-daryl-effect.html
Sunday, May 18, 2014. Daryl Dixon- as portrayed by Norman Reedus. Ah, Daryl Dixon. If you listen to Secretly Timid. By now you know I have been calling for his death for the last 2 seasons of AMC's The Walking Dead. My feelings have absolutely nothing to do with the actor portraying the character- or the character itself; rather, I feel the character has become such a fan favorite that he overshadows the rest of the cast and story. Spoilers ahead! Lost- James "Sawyer" Ford. Buffy the Vampire Slayer- Spike.

That's What You Read: Cheeto
http://thatswhatyouread.blogspot.com/2012/06/cheeto.html
A blank sheet of paper and the thought of having an imaginary dog that never poops and always catches frisbees in the air—he practically flies. His name is Cheeto. Someone else named him before I rescued him from the imaginary dog shelter. The previous owner abandoned him, which is how most imaginary dogs end up in the shelter. He hears his name being called, and he can't quite figure out where it's coming from. He's running to all the places where sounds leak and freezes—holding very still unt...Is the ...

The Nowhere Special
First published as a blog and now as a book. Is a collection of short stories, snapshots, essays, and prose compiled from the artistic mind of Mark Searcy. To champion the notion that a medium influences how a message can be perceived. Blogs read differently than books—even when the words are the same, the meaning feels different when you can hold it in your hands. I wrote this for the person that is attached to the voice you hear when I yell, “Just picture it with words! Behind those trees in a pit?
