The Rugby Ref.co.uk. The trials and tribulations of a rugby referee. Wednesday, 13 May 2015. Number 8 obstructing the opposing scrumhalf. In a U19 match on the weekend I observed the number 8 unbinding with a single arm from the scrum once the ball was at his feet so as to obstruct the opposing scrumhalf and shield his own scrumhalf from being tackled. Law 20.3.g - indicates that if a flanker widens their stance to obstruct an opposing scrumhalf the appropriate sanction is a penalty kick. I notice recent...

The Rugby Ref.co.uk: March 2013

http://therugbyref.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

The Rugby Ref.co.uk. The trials and tribulations of a rugby referee. Friday, 15 March 2013. Rule 20.4. E,f, and g. When team A throws in at a scrum, team B pushes the scrum back and the scrum collapses, or stops with team B having the ball at their feet without any penalty many suggest that a new scrum is formed and team B get to throw in as they "won" The throw in switches team! So in my example team B would not get to throw in. Can you confirm the law please? Law 20.4 (e) and (f) say:. What these two l...

The Rugby Ref.co.uk. The trials and tribulations of a rugby referee. Tuesday, 22 July 2014. How far does the mantra, the referee is the sole judge of fact and law stretch? Hello, how far does the mantra, the referee is the sole judge of fact and law stretch? Are they in their right to do so or does it always stands that The referee is the sole judge of fact (score in this case) and law. Hope to hear from you. The referee must apply fairly all the Laws of the Game in every match. However, if the referee b...

The Rugby Ref.co.uk. The trials and tribulations of a rugby referee. Monday, 29 April 2013. Televised Match Officials and the Role of the Referee. The Rugby Ref was recently asked to collaborate with an article on injuries in sport. The Rugby Ref has no connection with the firm concerned, but feels that anything that contributes to player safety is worth looking at. The article below was submitted by Vicki Power. Televised Match Officials and the Role of the Referee. Sustained a collision or head injury.

The Rugby Ref.co.uk: September 2013

http://therugbyref.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

The Rugby Ref.co.uk. The trials and tribulations of a rugby referee. Thursday, 12 September 2013. Was the Ref correct? Many thanks. Confused-ish. By the letter of the law the referee was absolutely correct. 212 Where penalty and free kicks are taken. B) When a penalty or free kick is awarded in in-goal, the mark for the kick is in the field of play, 5 metres from the goal line, in line with the place of infringement. It's a judgement call sometimes, but the referee was correct. Links to this post.

Confessions of a Rugby Referee: 03/01/2011 - 04/01/2011

http://londonrugbyref.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Confessions of a Rugby Referee. Big Dai is a Level 10 1 Rugby Union referee for the London Society. After playing for many years in the Social side of a leading national club, he started refereeing a few seasons ago. He recounts his adventures trooping around South West London to give the ungrateful a game of weekend rugby. Wednesday, 30 March 2011. I suspect it is neither. How did he handle the inevitable discussion about “didn’t you see that, every time sir? I’ve tried to use a lot from that talk...

Hampshire Rugby Twitter feed. You sometimes see Rugby laws being invented on the fly. Some sort of herd instinct amongst crowds, television commentators and players can communicate itself to the referees, and then suddenly a new norm is established. I think that this is happening with the 'Deliberate Knock-on'. Law 12.1e specifies that:. This is all quite clear, and has existed for at least the last 40 years that I've been playing and refereeing the game. I just watched the highlights of last weekend's L...

It's based on the latest Hampshire RFU handbook and should include all Hampshire RFU member and associate clubs, and schools. Rugby For Heroes RFC. I've parted company with the handbook over the ground for University of Southampton Solent, which I refereed last season at the Hardmoor Sports Ground, opposite Trojans, rather than at Southampton RFC.

Hampshire Rugby Twitter feed. I'm delighted by the way that the social media and the newspapers have been full of gags about the horse meat scandal. Tesco's bologneighs, My Lidl pony and Findus Deep Fill Horse Lasagne are already well known on the comedy circuit. Two things bother me: one is that I don't get the scientific thing about a lasagne being 100% horse meat - what about the pasta, bechamel sauce and all the other ingredients? One is substitution, the other contamination - not the same thing.

Hampshire Rugby Twitter feed. At last I've done the deed. I thought about it and blogged about it. Last year. The final straw was another price rise and reduction in useful service, which has at last pushed me over the brink to cancel Sky Sports. And then they lost the rights to show Aviva Premiership Rugby to BT, and put the price up at the same time, presumably to provide even more funding for football players to keep their WAGs in the accustomed style. Any Sky Rugby coverage that I need to watch is sh...

Some of these are high-paid talent with multiple sources of income including personal appearances, books, after dinner speaking, and so on. Some are much lower paid, working from contract to contract. Let's look at some simple numbers:. To be able to pay the same salary, employer's NI and employer's pension contribution,...
