Confessions of a Rugby Referee. Big Dai is a Level 10 1 Rugby Union referee for the London Society. After playing for many years in the Social side of a leading national club, he started refereeing a few seasons ago. He recounts his adventures trooping around South West London to give the ungrateful a game of weekend rugby. Wednesday, 30 March 2011. I suspect it is neither. How did he handle the inevitable discussion about “didn’t you see that, every time sir? I’ve tried to use a lot from that talk...

Hampshire Rugby Twitter feed. You sometimes see Rugby laws being invented on the fly. Some sort of herd instinct amongst crowds, television commentators and players can communicate itself to the referees, and then suddenly a new norm is established. I think that this is happening with the 'Deliberate Knock-on'. Law 12.1e specifies that:. This is all quite clear, and has existed for at least the last 40 years that I've been playing and refereeing the game. I just watched the highlights of last weekend's L...

It's based on the latest Hampshire RFU handbook and should include all Hampshire RFU member and associate clubs, and schools. Rugby For Heroes RFC. I've parted company with the handbook over the ground for University of Southampton Solent, which I refereed last season at the Hardmoor Sports Ground, opposite Trojans, rather than at Southampton RFC.

Hampshire Rugby Twitter feed. I'm delighted by the way that the social media and the newspapers have been full of gags about the horse meat scandal. Tesco's bologneighs, My Lidl pony and Findus Deep Fill Horse Lasagne are already well known on the comedy circuit. Two things bother me: one is that I don't get the scientific thing about a lasagne being 100% horse meat - what about the pasta, bechamel sauce and all the other ingredients? One is substitution, the other contamination - not the same thing.

Hampshire Rugby Twitter feed. At last I've done the deed. I thought about it and blogged about it. Last year. The final straw was another price rise and reduction in useful service, which has at last pushed me over the brink to cancel Sky Sports. And then they lost the rights to show Aviva Premiership Rugby to BT, and put the price up at the same time, presumably to provide even more funding for football players to keep their WAGs in the accustomed style. Any Sky Rugby coverage that I need to watch is sh...

Some of these are high-paid talent with multiple sources of income including personal appearances, books, after dinner speaking, and so on. Some are much lower paid, working from contract to contract. Let's look at some simple numbers:. To be able to pay the same salary, employer's NI and employer's pension contribution,...
