31 Things Before Turning 31. 32 Things Before Turning 32. Monday, May 30, 2011. The Books of Childhood (Book Nerds Unite). I remember the first time I read by myself. I don't recall the name of the book but hazy illustrations have remained in my mind. I was around 4 years old, sitting in my bedroom at my parents' first house. That realization that the letters meant something, that I could understand how they composed a story. That moment changed everything. How could I forget? Anna Sewell I went through ...

Dancing in the rainbow. Just dance like the rainbow will NEVER end! Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by architectural design. From the creative lines formed to bring one’s vision to fruition to the personal touches that make the space complete, I loved everything about the art of architecture. Her personal retreat spot, which sparked my burning desire to delve in. When there were no guests, she spent every spare moment working on her. Evenings and weekends never seemed long enough. I began to wo...

Dancing in the rainbow. Just dance like the rainbow will NEVER end! 34 years ago, on a painfully cold Midwestern December morning, I met the first man I would ever love. He was tall-ish, slim, clean-shaven and smelled of Old Spice. But then, just as I’d heard this and that about him, he’d also taken some time to learn about me. He knew the foods that would make me happy or just plain sick, the sounds to soothe my spirit or push me to a kicking fury. And on the day set for our official meeting, he...I ima...

Dancing in the rainbow. Just dance like the rainbow will NEVER end! The Little Girl Inside. I looked in the mirror, deep into my eyes. Deeper than I’d ever looked before. As I looked through the chocolate brown iris and into jet black pupil, like a blinking caution light the question flashed before me. What are you afraid of? If my name were Dorothy and I were wearing ruby red slippers, traveling down a yellow brick road through the forest on my way to see the Wizard of Oz. Is in my future. My answer is ...

Dancing in the rainbow. Just dance like the rainbow will NEVER end! The other night I was flipping channels and landed on a new series on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Where she visits the homes of various newsmakers for in-depth one-on-one interviews. During this particular episode, she was interviewing Joel Osteen. As I thought about Osteen’s words, Reinhold Niebuhr’s. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.
