Thinking Outside the Ballot Box by TNP. Thoughts on elections around the world. Thursday, 27 August 2009. Surviving Political Earthquakes: The Future of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party. Trust through Grassroots Organization. Strength grounded in Unifying Leadership. Vision grounded in Concrete Policy. It is also worthwhile to remember that they returned to government (albeit a minority one) 13 years later. It may well be that opposition can bring new life to the Japanese Liberal Democrats, and ...

Thinking Outside the Ballot Box by TNP. Thoughts on elections around the world. Sunday, 20 September 2009. A marriage of inconvenience: the politics of Grand Coalition in 21st century Germany. But what is involved in such a political marriage of perceived inconvenience and how will this impact the upcoming Federal election on 27th September? Formation of the Grand Coalition. Implementation of the Grand Coalition. Whilst the coalition’s sizeable lower house majority has not itself been challenged, w...

Back to the Big City | Muir’s Meandering Mind

https://drmuir.wordpress.com/2010/06/19/back-to-the-big-city

Random thoughts of the world. June 19, 2010. Back to the Big City. We arrived in Quito and got a taxi to the reknowed hostel called the “Secret Garden” in the old town. Annoyingly there was no space for we headed into the new town . We found a place the LP recommended called “Cafe del Mundo.” It is in the Quito party district called Mariscal which also happened to rank as one of the most dangerous areas in South America. Jungle 3 | Muir’s Meandering Mind

https://drmuir.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/jungle-3

Random thoughts of the world. July 19, 2010. We got up early and went to pick up the English and German folk from the Shaman’s home. On route we passed a couple indigenous tribal hamlets. They seems to be self sufficient to a large extent with water towers, outhouses, solar panels and sewage pipes. No doubt the oil and tourism helped. Laquo; Jungle day 2. Well you’ve taken your time getting that up Colin. Although I must say I’m impressed that you remember the little details. Hope you...On July 19, 2010.

Jungle day 2 | Muir’s Meandering Mind

https://drmuir.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/jungle-day-2

Random thoughts of the world. July 15, 2010. The next day we got up early and went bird watching just after dawn. Some of the birds were quite comical. As I often do, when nature watching, I daydreamed. As always I humanised the birds into stereotypes of various cultures, famous people and races from around the world. The small flamboyant bird would be Japanese. The large brute would be an African American redneck who linebacks at College. At sunset we went for a swim in the lagoon. The lagoon is qui...

Random thoughts of the world. June 5, 2010. South American Extravaganza Part 1. So med school is finished and life as a student is gone. What better way to celebrate the end than by going to South America with a fellow medic. Where to go? We, decided Colombia, Ecuador and Peru would give us the best experience as we only have 4 weeks before graduation. Unsurprisingly people a bit worried about us being kidnapped. All the more exciting we thought. Ps Photos will be added later. May 7, 2010. Its amazing ho...

The Jungle Arrival | Muir’s Meandering Mind

https://drmuir.wordpress.com/2010/06/19/the-jungle-arrival

Random thoughts of the world. June 19, 2010. Organising the trip to the jungle was a strange expereince. We had to get a bus to an oil town 7 hrs away then meet Jorge at a cafe. As far as we could tell lots of things could go wrong in the process and it smelt dodgy. Nonetheless, we caught the overnight bus to Lago Agrio. Tyre fixed, Ron collected and other essentials loaded we headed off to Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. Laquo; Back to the Big City. On June 19, 2010. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Build a websi...

Border Bashing | Muir’s Meandering Mind

https://drmuir.wordpress.com/2010/09/20/border-bashing

Random thoughts of the world. September 20, 2010. The bus tickets we bought from Cuenca was for Tumbles but the route took us to Machala first. We got on the bus and settled into the ride. The next thing I remember was Jamie grabbing me and telling me to get off the bus. Little did I know, he had been having several strained conversations with the bus conductor about how best to get there. We arrived safely at Peruvian immigration. As we rolled up to the station, which was a random building on the si...

Random thoughts of the world. June 6, 2010. One Coke please, sorry Coca Cola…. We landed safely after some serious turbulence and a rocky landing. Our taxi driver (un)surprisingly was drunk but in good form got us there in record time. After a welcomed sleep at the Platypus we got some breakfast (tacos) and then headed up the 600m veneer to the top of the surrounding Andes plateau. Laquo; South American Extravaganza Part 1. The musings of an introverted thinker of thoughts, pagan, mindmapper, journaler, barefoot walker, gay Irish man, and observer of sunsets. My kind of holiday. August 14, 2015. I wonder what it will be like to sleep in my own bed again. I haven’t done so for three weeks and it will be another few days yet before I get to it. I’ve learned a lot over the last few weeks.
