TimboBaggins Abroad

Friday, August 7, 2015. Cairngorms road trip, Ospreys fishing, Spoonbills and a surprise herd of Reindeer! Just got back from a jaunt up to the Cairngorms. With my good mate Rob. The weather was less than perfect but it was a great road trip. I did all the driving, Rob all the cooking . I like driving and he's chef, so it was a good deal! Pick of the crop was a toss up between 3 majestic Ospreys. Hunting in tandem over Lochindorb. In the rain and 2 Spoonbills. At low tide on Findhorn Bay. Precious few op...

TimboBaggins Abroad: September 2014

http://timbobagginsabroad.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 23, 2014. A local Pectoral more than makes up for ducking out on a Masked Shrike . who cares! Been rarities aplenty up and down the east coast these past few weeks and if I was a confirmed 'twitcher' I'd be pretty gutted not to see the UK's 3rd ever and Yorkshire's first Masked Shrike. At Spurn, not to mention Sabines Gull, Olive Backed Pipit. Here's the bird they've all been raving about though. Juvenile Masked Shrike, Spurn (3rd UK record). Is this is maybe why I'm not into twitching?

TimboBaggins Abroad: May 2014

http://timbobagginsabroad.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 29, 2014. Norfolk road trip Pt1 - White blobs on the Wash and scarce butterflies at Snettisham. So after the trials and tribulations of my aborted trip to the Somerset Levels. And all the domestic 'busyness' surrounding my house sale, it was time to take a breather and head off in the new van. My good friend Robin was free and came along for the ride and good news about my regular walkabout pal Mark . he's gonna walk again! I Haven't been to Norfolk. Thankfully, large chunks of Norfolk.

TimboBaggins Abroad: December 2014

http://timbobagginsabroad.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 19, 2014. Winter begins around the Yorkshire Wolds. tricky thrushes, cunning hawks and peckers out of the window! At last a taste of real Winter . early morning frosts, crisp sunshine and biting winds. I don't mind the first two bits of weather and just as well there hasn't been too much of the latter, I don't do wind of any sort! So, with a road trip to Spain. Almost upon me, Otters. Scanning the beck at Fangfoss. Nearly every day in the hope of seeing those Otters. This little bunch ar...

Saturday, February 28, 2015. The big salty lake at Fuente de Piedre - Cranes, Sandpipers and Flamingoes then some Raptor migration in the raw at Tarifa. Without taking a ferry across to Morocco. Been seriously toying with the idea), I've gone as far south as I planned to do and now kicking my heels in the Kite surfing capital of Europe . Tarifa. Kites at Tarifa, feb 2015. Barn Swallow, Fuente de Piedre, 23rd Feb 2015. En route I stopped off at Fuente de Piedre. And the odd Red Rumped Swallow. And a flock...

Andy Kiz - Birding in the LDV: Christmas time, Ivory Gull quite fine!

http://andykizbirding.blogspot.com/2013/12/christmas-time-ivory-gull-quite-fine.html

Andy Kiz - Birding in the LDV. Sunday, 22 December 2013. Christmas time, Ivory Gull quite fine! Finally managed to get over to Patrington Haven this morning to see the Juvenile Ivory Gull, unfortunately I was about 5 minutes to late to see it feeding close and the bird was sat out on the rocks when I arrived. Managed to get 'good enough' views in the scope in the brief moments the wind wasn't blowing force 10 in my face! Green-Winged Teal and Common Teal. 23 December 2013 at 01:03. Andy Kiz - Birding in the LDV. Tuesday, 19 February 2013. 16 and 17th February Birdathon. This weekend I managed to squeeze in a day and a half of birding which was very enjoyable and flew by! I'll keep Saturdays news brief then and focus on Sundays Birdforum Tyke Meet. It was about 12c by now and felt very much like Spring! Sunrise at Derwent Cottage Farm, North Duffield. I started out early today, 7am just as the sun was rising maximising the hours for today birding. In the fields here (which have ...

http://andykizbirding.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Andy Kiz - Birding in the LDV. Sunday, 27 January 2013. A grand day out! Decided on some more local birding today, I started out at 9am at Duffield Carrs, Andy Walker. Arrived just as I was about to set off to the GS hide. It was blowing a gale and had come over very dark and the heavy rain followed. As we arrived in the hide we noted a huge number of swans on the water, mostly whooper, I counted 83 Whooper Swans, 41 Mute Swans and interestingly 1 Black Swan (not a species i've seen before). I moved on t...

Andy Kiz - Birding in the LDV. Sunday, 13 October 2013. Spurn Point 12.10.13. With a spare day I decided a days birding was in order, I visited North Cave wetlands early in the morning looking for the Little Ringed Plover which has been present for some time, unfortunately it had cleared out ahead of the cold and wet weather! I did enjoy watching a stoat causing havoc with the wildfowl whilst chasing a hare around near the waters edge! Goldcrest - you can see where the name comes from! Walking further do...

http://andykizbirding.blogspot.com/2013/10/horwich-bolton-glossy-ibis.html

Andy Kiz - Birding in the LDV. Tuesday, 8 October 2013. Horwich - Bolton : Glossy Ibis. These 4 Glossy Ibis were at Horwich in Bolton feeding in an upland field. Far from their home in Africa these wading birds usually associated with marshland seemed oblivious to us standing the other side of the wall and got closer and closer. Fantastic views and a lifer for me! A few photos below. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Spurn Point 12.10.13. Horwich - Bolton : Glossy Ibis.

Snippets from the Duplisea household. Just another WordPress.com site. I was thinking the other day about all the choices that each and everyone of us makes everyday. Should we got to that gas station or the other? Should I stop and get an sausage burrito or just drive straight to work? Should I wait till the next commercial to go pee or take the chance that Sheldon will say Bazinga while I’m gone? I guess that’s a blog for a different day). Would my life had been better? Timbobean | Looking out from inside the Marmalade Jar

Looking out from inside the Marmalade Jar. July 8, 2015. Sometimes only paper will do. But sometimes a favourite book just feels so good in your hands. Especially if it has a cover as lovely as this. I spotted it in a city bookstore early this year and it became a gift. It is hardback and actually has a smallish page size, but the feel in my hands and the smell of the paper are both things that e-books cannot provide. Rereading it was a real physical pleasure. July 6, 2015. So after breakfast this mornin...

My personal diary of things that interest me, for those who know me, or would like to. Sunday, 9 August 2015. How often do you use drugs? Or any kind of medication, for that matter? About four weeks ago, on a lovely country walk, I got stung or bitten on the arm by some kind of insect. I noticed something, but thought no more of it until the next day, when it had pumped itself up to visibly swollen, florid proportions. Ah, antihistamine, I thought, and found a tube in my medicine chest. You can’t b...
