My personal diary of things that interest me, for those who know me, or would like to. Sunday, 9 August 2015. How often do you use drugs? Or any kind of medication, for that matter? About four weeks ago, on a lovely country walk, I got stung or bitten on the arm by some kind of insect. I noticed something, but thought no more of it until the next day, when it had pumped itself up to visibly swollen, florid proportions. Ah, antihistamine, I thought, and found a tube in my medicine chest. You can’t b...

timbobig: June 2015

http://timbobig.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

My personal diary of things that interest me, for those who know me, or would like to. Sunday, 28 June 2015. One of the joys of a caravan visit, for me, is that very little changes. Sometimes familiarity and continuity, though they can easily tip over into boredom or indolence, are what’s needed. And my caravan neighbours (who I call B and B to remind me of their names) were welcomingly there, as they always are every weekend (they only come from Pont Abraham, 45 minutes, alright for some). He said he&#8...

My personal diary of things that interest me, for those who know me, or would like to. Sunday, 31 May 2015. Hippies, and you had to get Davide, the roadie, to persuade a suspicious café to sell you a horsemeat steak. So my recent visit was more than just a holiday. I wanted to discover whether my hazily-recalled impressions from forty-five years ago were still real – was it still the same? Or rather, did it still feel the same? Thursday, 14 May 2015. And how is it that my question has never. I went to an...

timbobig: December 2014

http://timbobig.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

My personal diary of things that interest me, for those who know me, or would like to. Sunday, 28 December 2014. There is a Sanity Clause! And to prove it, here he is coming down the chimney. (Or the stairs.). We all had to sit on his lap and answer, honestly, whether we’d been a good or bad little boy or girl. I told the truth, of course, and Santa pulled my reward out of his sack:. After that, there was the dreaded singsong. It went pretty well actually, and my relationship with this thing. Holly brief...

timbobig: Relocation, Relocation, Relocation?

http://timbobig.blogspot.com/2015/08/relocation-relocation-relocation.html

My personal diary of things that interest me, for those who know me, or would like to. Friday, 7 August 2015. Relocation, Relocation, Relocation? This concept pops up every couple of years, in my mind and (at least once) in my blog. Do I want to spend the rest of my life in this admittedly pleasant house in a not-so-pleasant town where I know a few people I rarely see and don’t get out much because there’s nowhere to get out to? So I really ought to relocate – but where? Last time, I did it geographically.

The Rambled Jottings of John at Large: Hornby Shop

http://j4jon.blogspot.com/2013/11/hornby-shop-how-nostalgic-is-this.html

The Rambled Jottings of John at Large. Thursday, 28 November 2013. How nostalgic is this? Who's to say, after all this time I am loath to part with it. Suffice it to say I would dearly love to see my trains running again. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Update on eye test. A young 72 something and counting. http://j4jon.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

The Rambled Jottings of John at Large. Tuesday, 21 August 2012. Let The Train Take The Strain. An old slogan which I never thought I would be using, But! A few days ago Genny Ira Yura and I decided to go to Birmingham, I was not feeling up to driving so it was suggested we go by rail. What! After giving it some thought, well maybe not so bad an idea. I discovered the train ran from Banbury station the parking easy and it's a short hop from home. How close to the bullring is it? We arrived on time. Our re...

http://j4jon.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

The Rambled Jottings of John at Large. Friday, 30 August 2013. A bit of a Drive. Since the departure of the children we have been a bit deflated Genny in particular has been down in the dumps, my attempts at cheering her up prove a bit pathetic, we've tried retail therapy that's only partially successful, to be honest I've had enough sitting in cafes drinking coffee for a while, but I know I will have to continue to do so especially as Genny needs to do our usual shopping anyway. http://j4jon.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

The Rambled Jottings of John at Large. Monday, 27 May 2013. Today is Saturday May 25. We are due to have a new wet room built starting on Tuesday May 28, this requires the bathroom being stripped to bare walls, the removal of the bath and toilet giving easy access for the workmen to easily do their job. We are taking this opportunity to look at a new hand basin and cupboard unit, the present one being so small, it's almost useless. Just a small courtesy but vey much appreciated. http://j4jon.blogspot.com/2013/11/update-on-eye-test.html

The Rambled Jottings of John at Large. Sunday, 17 November 2013. Update on eye test. On Monday 11th November I had a letter from the appointment and booking centre offering three hospitals to choose for an eye assessment all of them were over 60 days the nearest Witney being 82 days. I chose Witney and the John Radcliffe, the former being the nearest the latter shortest waiting time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Update on eye test. View my complete profile. The Rambled Jottings of John at Large: September 2013

http://j4jon.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

The Rambled Jottings of John at Large. Saturday, 14 September 2013. For some time now I have been using mobility scooters from shopmobility, at first I was reluctant to do so but gave in when I realised getting around the shops etc was so much easier, since the latest visit to the specialist I am of the opinion that it will be a long haul until I am better able to get about. Tuesday, 10 September 2013. A Bit of Bad News. So next week all being sorted, the hospital will deliver them to my house, after tha...

Lap Me In Soft Lydian Airs: April 2011

http://lydianairs.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Lap Me In Soft Lydian Airs. Friday, 29 April 2011. I hear there have been recent reports of a 10-strong foreign choir, due to sing in remote parts of the Celtic fringe, flying into the UK and then absconding. In France they say salon. Which I suppose translates as saloon, but that doesn't give the right idea at all. It's just a space between our sitting and dining areas large enough to accommodate 8 people of mixed nationalities, conductor and pianist. Who'll provide meat and drink at the birds' wedding?

Lap Me In Soft Lydian Airs: Second to none

http://lydianairs.blogspot.com/2012/05/second-to-none.html

Lap Me In Soft Lydian Airs. Saturday, 26 May 2012. I had one of these once. I found it, years ago when we were house-hunting in France. It was almost the same as in the photo, only the curved members were extended to join at the ends, so that it looked like a kind of sledge. It was called un moine. A monk. There was a time when no house in this part of the world was without its monks. I think I eventually sold it for about £3. How dreams dissipate, like a freshly warmed bed on a cold night. Lap Me In Soft Lydian Airs: September 2011

http://lydianairs.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Lap Me In Soft Lydian Airs. Sunday, 25 September 2011. Going, going, gone. So off we drove on the designated afternoon to find her house and observatory. After a warm welcome with lemon meringue pie served with a cocktail of rosé. It turned out, very much to our surprise, that we were the only guests, apart from a retired journalist who lived down the lane, whose private water supply had given out and who'd come to beg a shower. So M. produced a half-bottle of champagne and J. and I and the n...Well, we ...

Timbobean | Looking out from inside the Marmalade Jar

Looking out from inside the Marmalade Jar. July 8, 2015. Sometimes only paper will do. But sometimes a favourite book just feels so good in your hands. Especially if it has a cover as lovely as this. I spotted it in a city bookstore early this year and it became a gift. It is hardback and actually has a smallish page size, but the feel in my hands and the smell of the paper are both things that e-books cannot provide. Rereading it was a real physical pleasure. July 6, 2015. So after breakfast this mornin...
