Tony McLean's East Yorkshire Wildlife Diary. Wildlife photography in East Yorkshire. The Quiet Road to Nyvoll. Yesterday, I found myself scouring the map for a new area to explore. The weather forecast was distinctly unpromising; a short break in the cloud cover was promised at around 1:00 am but there would be a stiff breeze from the south-east. I had been festering for most of the day and I needed to get out. Posted in Nature Photography. And tagged " 2015 Tony McLean". Nikon 14 - 24 f2.8 G". You are c...

Seeing the light | Tony McLean's East Yorkshire Wildlife Diary
https://tonymclean.wordpress.com/2015/01/15/seeing-the-light
Tony McLean's East Yorkshire Wildlife Diary. Wildlife photography in East Yorkshire. I was sat in a bar in Alta a few night’s ago slowly savouring a rather expensive beer and casually re-reading Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men’ on my iPad. For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity of reading this short but beautifully written novella, I would highly recommend doing so. Essentially, it’s about loneliness and it reflected my mood perfectly. Well, I’m sorry to say that I shall be leaving Alta tomo...

Martin Hodges' Wildlife Blog: June 2012
http://martinhodgessbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 26 June 2012. Slow times in wet weather. Unfortunately, I hate rain in the summer. I'm rather disappointed I'm still walking around in my wellies and it is almost the end of June! The rain equals less to blog! Dragonfly spotting is hard work as sunny periods on days off seem to be few and far between. The highlight of the last week or so being this Four-spotted Chaser of the scarce form. Like everyone else, I hope the weather picks up soon. Links to this post. Saturday, 9 June 2012. Fortunately,...
Wolds Birding: September 2012

Friday, 28 September 2012. Bittern and Twisted…… Not Me! Seven and a half hours in North Marsh hide waiting for a Bittern, and nothing! Some would say that was dedication, others that I am going mad! And all because of those fantastic photos on Richard Hampshire’sTophill Blog. Bittern’s have always been a bogie bird for me, with the best shot I have taken at Potteric Carr a couple of years ago. Record shot of Bittern from Potteric Carr. Just tasting the air. Trying the nearside bank. Bitten but no Bittern.
Wolds Birding: Time to Switch
http://woldsbirding.blogspot.com/2013/05/time-to-switch.html
Tuesday, 14 May 2013. Those who check in regularly will know that the frequency of my blogs on this site has reduced drastically. That is not to say that I have stopped publishing photos from my days out - quite the contrary. Thanks to my wife I have switched on to the joys of Facebook, and have set up a page entitled "Wolds Birdlife". This page will largely become defunct from here on. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you on Facebook. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
Wolds Birding: March 2013
http://woldsbirding.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 29 March 2013. Long Time No See. I can't believe it has been 3 months since my last post - but I guess that has been a combination of the bad weather, work, and having assignments to finish for my degree course. Never mind. Over the last few weeks I have been pleased to notice an increase in the numbers of barn owl around. I regularly see three in the mornings on my way to work, so perhaps winter has not been as hard as we may have thought. The conditions seem also to have taken their toll on the...

Wolds Birding: January 2013

Tuesday, 8 January 2013. Late, but still a Cracker. I had to work over Christmas this year, which meant that my time off came in early January. Given the weather that was perhaps a bonus. I decided to go over to the other side and pay a visit to some of my favourite haunts on the other side of the Bridge. First call was Far Ings, with a view to seeing the reported drake Smew. I arrived early with an eye on spotting a Beardie or two collecting grit. With no success after. Back to Far Ings. Still no Sm...

Tuesday, 27 March 2012. Beginning of the Return. I have always struggled to get decent shots of Goldcrests, and yesterday was no different. Like many others of the “small brown” species, they had all moved to the tops of the trees with the males full of song in their attempts to attract mates. Lots of birds to see, but in the confines of the woods there was not much to photograph but their unattractive undersides. My first Chiffchaff of the year. Chiffchaff - note yellowish armpits. Comma from Watton hide.
Tophill Low Nature Reserve: April 2015
http://tophilllow.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 22 April 2015. As in the last posting the blog has suffered as we have done a lot of work elsewhere - unfortunately waiting in the inbox were what I had presumed were further scaup pictures of the winter birds which have seen immatures and hybrids in the mix. Subsequent to publishing (I didn't actually look at gone midnight! Monday, 20 April 2015. As ever the usual excuse of plenty going on at the reserve - but we have some update photos at least! A major project has been a total re-landscape ...
