http://walkthecape.blogspot.com/2012/12/franschhoek-open-gardens-part-i.html
Explorations on foot in and around Cape Town. Franschhoek Open Gardens - Part I. Jenny, Iain and Helen. The little town of Franschhoek is an hour's drive from Cape Town. This was my first visit to their Open Gardens. Our first stop was the Town Hall to get tickets, and then we set off on foot to see a couple of gardens in nearby van Wijk Street. Garden No.3 had an enormous Erythrina tree in the front yard. I liked the flower-filled wine barrels underneath it too. With such lovely pretty flowers! Hi, I'm ...

http://walkthecape.blogspot.com/2012/12/strelitzias-at-kirstenbosch.html
Explorations on foot in and around Cape Town. Strelitzia Season at Kirstenbosch. N: Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. The Kirstenbosch archive is here. I popped into the garden to see what was in flower in the seasonal beds. Wow. what a lot of colour! Ah, there's the striking Strelitzia, or crane flower. That orange is so bright! The yellow variety is known as 'Mandela's Gold'. Stunning! I also walked around the Glasshouse to see the succulents and bulbs. There are always interesting things to see here.

Walking the Cape: Stellenberg Open Garden
http://walkthecape.blogspot.com/2010/11/stellenberg-open-garden.html
Explorations on foot in and around Cape Town. In the Southern Suburbs. Stellenberg in upper Kenilworth is a gracious 18th century Cape Dutch manor house. For one weekend a year its large, well-established and beautiful garden is open to the public and it is a must-see for any garden enthusiast. It's famous for having various "garden rooms" done in different styles and showcasing a wide variety of plants. And gorgeous orange day lilies. I loved the star jasmine creeper on the walls. I've recently plan...

Explorations on foot in and around Cape Town. Near Klapmuts in the Cape Winelands. Dorothy, Brenda and Helen. My previous visit to Babylonstoren is here. We took a Sunday drive out to the countryside to visit this wonderful garden, my second visit. I was looking forward to seeing it in the springtime. The labyrinth near the entrance was full of colour and lovely herby scents. The water troughs were as calm and restful as I remembered. The fruit trees were full of blossom. And some colour as well. Please ...

Walking the Cape: Stroll Behind Bo Kaap
http://walkthecape.blogspot.com/2012/12/stroll-behind-bo-kaap.html
Explorations on foot in and around Cape Town. Stroll Behind Bo Kaap. Lower slopes of Signal Hill. From the Bo Kaap. Dom, Dorothy and the dogs. Previous walk in the Bo Kaap area here. We set from my friend's place on the edge of the Bo Kaap, following the road that leads to the Noon Gun. It was late afternoon and very windy, but as we got further up the road it was more sheltered and quite lush and green, very rural. I'd never have guessed this pretty little road was right there on the edge of town. Pleas...

Walking the Cape: September 2012
http://walkthecape.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Explorations on foot in and around Cape Town. Table Mountain: Climbing Up Under the Cableway. Archive of other walks along the Table Mountain Contour here. We started at Kloof Corner like we usually do but decided to do this favourite walk the other way around for a change. We walked on Tafelberg Road to the Lower Cable Station and followed the path up under the trees. We climbed the stone stairs, stopping to admire the flowers. There were so many. it looked like a garden! White adenandra in full bloom.
