Trails (and Trials)

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Some might remember this pretty view from the Cache Creek endurance ride this spring:. Sadly, the Rocky fire trampled through here in the last couple weeks, leaving 69,000 charred acres. I. Drove through the area when the highway reopened, coming back from a short vacation. I thought I'd be ok, fire is such a fact of life here. I'm looking at my trails a little more carefully right now. Taking more mental pictures, remembering. Just in case. Friday, July 31, 2015. Trails (and Trials): May 2015

http://www.trails-and-trials-with-major.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 29, 2015. Take me to the river. Major loves water. And it is even better when it is splashy! Another boarder sent me this photo of Major playing in his water. I couldn't deny him, so we took a quick trip out to the lake. The water level is dropping quickly, but there are still some safe areas to play, and scare the geese with their babies. Geese and babies float away while we watch. Cool teepee, not scary. A shiny pinwheel on top, still not scary. This teepee, however, was very suspicious.

Friday, July 31, 2015. Call it luck, or fortune, or hard work and dedication. Call it chance, or love, determination or just stubbornness. They all apply. I was lucky enough to find this gorgeous, talented, ridiculous horse. He has reminded me of the meaning of all those words (and more, including a few four letter ones). Thank you Major! I'm too sexy for my saddle. Not me, I don't know how the water tipped over! Oh, you wanted a photo? But I'm the luckiest. Monday, July 27, 2015. The big campgrounds at ...

Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Detour: redwoods and sea. It was time for a small vacation. With family. Is it still a vacation? Turned out we all had a great time and didn't even get too sick of each other. We all (my parents, sister, and significant others) met up in Richardson Grove, a lovely campground in the redwoods. Twisty tree, root or trunk? We did head down the the river, where Shamus the dog kept a close eye on all swimmers, needing to rescue them but not wanting to swim! Miles of empty beach.

Wren Loop Thoroughbreds: November 2014

http://wrenloop.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2014. Delayed blog post here, this ride was Oct. 4. I was so hoping to get one more 50 mile ride in this year, unfortunately it was not to be. Work has been absolutely insane and I've been there 7 days a week. Not surprisingly I have not been getting in many long rides. The work schedule, coupled with a bit or rain, and the fact that our logging road loops are now off limits due to the new $150 permit required Aug through Jan. meant I just didn't get it done. We vetted in and had the...

Wren Loop Thoroughbreds: July 2015

http://wrenloop.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 3, 2015. Happy 3rd of July. Cartman, Buddy, and I took a two hour pre-4th of July ride today! It was already getting hot at 9:30am but there was a nice breeze down by the river and surprisingly there was nobody down there! We managed to get 9.22 miles in, but about 3 of them were in deep sand. so I'm counting those double :) Cartman got really sweaty and even had lather under his breastcollar. We also got some time in the water, as there were not throngs of people there yet. I should back up.

Wren Loop Thoroughbreds: March 2014

http://wrenloop.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 30, 2014. Karen/Cartman vs. Mother Nature. You can guess who won that fight! It has been completely crap weather here all week. Thursday afternoon I knew I had to get a ride in so we hauled over to the arena. It wasn't actively raining when we arrived so I was able to get him tacked up next to the trailer. Again we went with no breastcollar and I have to admit I like the convenience of not. I'd seen the chiropractor on Wed. and she was not too happy with me. Apparently my back ( whi...Anywa...

Wren Loop Thoroughbreds: June 2015

http://wrenloop.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 27, 2015. Four days after we got home from Prineville Cartman was due to have his shoes replaced. When Gary pulled off his right front and started to trim it he discovered a small bruise in the toe. It was actually oozing a little bit of fluid :(. As he trimmed he even found another tiny spot of bruising, also in the right front toe. If I observed any soreness, swelling, or other signs of foot trouble I would get the shoe off and start soaking. I believe that the bruising was caused by me ...

The mighty Rushcreek Seth, attending to his vittles. This year there were 10 Rushcreeks vetted into Tevis on Friday, here’s a fun group picture. Also interesting to note, 50% completed, in accordance with overall Tevis completion average. Cool unsettled weather and Blue moon over RF, Sat am. And a fabulous RC eater, of course.

The Journey to 100 Miles: Expenses

http://fit2continue.blogspot.com/p/how-much-does-it-cost.html

The Journey to 100 Miles. One day in April 2013, I came up with the crackpot idea that I wanted to condition myself and my horse to go from loafing around in the arena and toodling around in the fields to finishing the Old Dominion 100-Mile Endurance Race. This blog is about our journey. One-Time (or slightly more than one-time) Expenses. Saddle Pads $50-130/pad (I have at least 10 pads and this isn't counting the sheepskin half pad I don't use.). My latest foray into other people’s ponies was Sparky, who came home in early May to get ridden/potentially sold. A big 10 year old coming off 17 acres with prior endurance experience, we trained about 80 trail miles together all told, and completed 3/3 rides in our few months together ( WW35/30.
