Hundreds attend Forest Row Olympics. MICHAEL Hall school made an Olympian effort when it played host to hundreds of 11 year-olds from 31 schools across the UK and Europe for its Greek-themed games this week. The UK’s oldest Steiner Waldorf school was host for a three-day sports day with a difference – all the events were inspired by the Ancient Greek Olympics. There is a pub at the middle so if you need refreshments you could stop on the way out or the way back (or both). Following part of two well trodden long distance paths; the Sussex Ouse Valley Way and the Sussex Border Path the route takes you over a railway bridge spanning the longest straight stretch of the Bluebell Railway. Part of the route follows the High Weald Landscape Trail and there are are plenty of views and historic buildings along the way. Remember to take your camera. Take path furthest from car park entrance. Go down steps to road and turn right. At Bowls Club follow track ahead to quarry. At end of track turn right between school buildings. Cross footbridge and head uphill.

From the waterscape of Weirwood Reservoir to steam trains emerging from Sharpthorne tunnel. A picnic spot awaits halfway round and with two level crossings and the chance of seeing climbers in action at Stone Farm Rocks this walk has plenty going on. Turn right at road. Take footpath on left. At T junction turn left then right on to footpath (hidden in a hedge). Pass pond on left.

This walk could be combined with a day out under steam as the final leg of your journey back home. Walk up road to Tickeridge Farm. Turn right and follow footpath through farm yard. Cross bridge at bottom of field. At road turn left then immediately right. Turn right at footpath sign. Go forwards to top of hill.
