Mat's 81 XS650 bobber project

Mat's 81 XS650 bobber project. I started this blog to document my first custom motorbike build from start to finish, i'm self taught and have done as much work as i can myself. The build has taken alot longer than i expected but ive learnt alot and enjoyed every moment. Friday, June 13, 2014. So I finally did it, engineered and registered legitimately. Its been such a long process and learning curve but it was all worth it in the end. No feeling compares to riding your own creation down the road! Work do...

XSChopper: October 2010

http://www.xschopper.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Follow me on my project as I purchase a Yamaha XS650, get it running and registered and then chop it into what hopefully is a sweet scoot that I can get out on and tear up the roads. Monday, October 18, 2010. Rebuilding the Forks Part 2. When it came time to remove the stanchion from the fork leg, I was able to loosen the allen bolt, but as most people experience, the bolt then just started spinning the damper rod in the bottom of the leg, not allowing you to get it undone all the way to pull apart.

Follow me on my project as I purchase a Yamaha XS650, get it running and registered and then chop it into what hopefully is a sweet scoot that I can get out on and tear up the roads. Sunday, April 18, 2010. The last few weekends I have been working away at the bike getting ready to hopefully start the motor next weekend, which is a long weekend for Anzac Day. I have also placed a couple more orders from MikesXS for some more parts. Parts wise, I have purchased:. Engine Oil Seal Kit. This weekend I have r...

Follow me on my project as I purchase a Yamaha XS650, get it running and registered and then chop it into what hopefully is a sweet scoot that I can get out on and tear up the roads. Monday, June 27, 2011. It's been a while. Well it has been a lot longer since my last update than I had hoped, but I have made some progress over the last couple of months. Since the last post, I have also received the new rear guard/fender and the fuel tank that I will be using later on. The guard/fender is a ribbed duc...

Follow me on my project as I purchase a Yamaha XS650, get it running and registered and then chop it into what hopefully is a sweet scoot that I can get out on and tear up the roads. Sunday, February 28, 2010. Tearing down the carbs continued. Today I continued on with cleaning the carbs both internally and externally. They are looking 100 times better now that they have had a really good scrub all over with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. Saturday, February 27, 2010. Once wrapped up, I wheeled the bike a...

Follow me on my project as I purchase a Yamaha XS650, get it running and registered and then chop it into what hopefully is a sweet scoot that I can get out on and tear up the roads. Sunday, July 11, 2010. Getting back into it. The last month and a bit have been hectic with the amount of work and things to check out on weekends, I have been neglecting to work on the chop. There is a bit of pitting on the pistons and I don't know if I should re-use them or not? Let me know what you think.

Follow me on my project as I purchase a Yamaha XS650, get it running and registered and then chop it into what hopefully is a sweet scoot that I can get out on and tear up the roads. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. The other weekend I started on cleaning up the brakes, as they had been disconnected a while and looked like they needed a good clean. With lots of air and then pushing the piston back into the caliper I was able to eventually get the piston free. A few pics of the calipers:. Monday, May 3, 2010.

Saturday, June 27, 2009. Here is the carnage, so i called around no one had a banshee stator plate. well the dealer had one for $600. yeah right! So i hopped in the car and went to my parents house to rob one off my moms banshee, sorry mom. After a bit of work with the mill and the tig i had it all straightened out. Here it is at like 1000 rpm. To fix the back brake problem i built this bracket that hooks to the lever arm on the drum, from here i hooked a spring to the frame. I 15 on the maiden voyage!
