You Can't Eat A Lawn

Friday, May 8, 2015. New Kids in the Flock. Just popping back in here after a long hiatus. Lots of things have been growing on the urban farm since we last left off; most significantly, our family! We’d like to introduce our daughter, Little Farmhand! I can’t promise that we’ll be back to blogging regularly, but hopefully we’ll be posting again in less than 2 years! Sunday, June 23, 2013. Last year we planted 25 tiny strawberry plants in one of our garden boxes, which produced a handful of small berries&...

You Can't Eat A Lawn: June 2013

http://youcanteatalawn.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 23, 2013. Last year we planted 25 tiny strawberry plants in one of our garden boxes, which produced a handful of small berries. By now, they're another year older, and they've had a good rainy spring instead of last year's drought. As a result, the plants have really, well, perked up. In some ways, we can't wait til we get to open one of the finished jars. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Simple Lives Thursday featured post. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.

You Can't Eat A Lawn: Breaking It All Down

http://youcanteatalawn.blogspot.com/2011/12/breaking-it-all-down.html

Monday, December 5, 2011. Breaking It All Down. This is going to be a totally rotten post. Ok, maybe it's just the topic that will be rotten. A few posts back, we told you about that lovely pastel compost bin. Made of dumpster fodder. Now it's time to talk about filling it up, and letting it rot. It's actually pretty simple: food, water, and air. Greens: weeds, kitchen scraps, mushy Jack-O-Lanterns, and coffee grounds. Browns: Shredded fall leaves. For our rotten education. If you're interested in st...

You Can't Eat A Lawn: February 2013

http://youcanteatalawn.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 24, 2013. Friday, February 15, 2013. How Low Can You Go? February is such a tempting time of the year. It's still cold, but s. Pring feels like it’s just around the corner, and we are anxious to get things rolling. One of the big things that we want to do to increase how much food we grow in our backyard is to lengthen the growing season. If you simply rely on Mother Nature, the frost-free date in central. Isn’t until May 10. Last year we built a cold frame. The ends of the CPVC hoops sl...

You Can't Eat A Lawn: Half Hog = Full Freezer

http://youcanteatalawn.blogspot.com/2012/01/half-hog-full-freezer.html

Saturday, January 21, 2012. Half Hog = Full Freezer. You might recall that back in November we stopped by the Winter Farmers Market and started the process of ordering a half hog. From Crooked Gap Farm. We figured out how we wanted it cut up, and then last week we were notified that our hog was ready for processing. The farmer took it in to a nearby meat locker, and less than a week later it was ready to be picked up. This morning was the exciting excursion to go see what we'd gotten. 97 lb of pork chops.

Knitting and Crocheting Cyclone: November 2011

http://knitting-crochetingcyclone.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Moving into the new house went well, and we're loving everything about it so far. Based on our desire to make some big changes and do lots of urban farming at the new house, I've started a new blog with my husband about our adventures. You should check it out:. I'm not ready to say that I'm totally giving up on this blog yet, but I probably won't be posting here very frequently. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Archive December, 2011. New Year’s Eve. I’m not really huge on New Year’s Resolutions. If there’s something that I don’t like about myself, I change it as soon as I can – I try not to wait until January. However, I did like this. When I saw it on Pinterest the other day, so I thought I’d do the one for grown-ups. And yes, my word does make me think of Slytherin, but I stand by it! What I really want. What I really need. What I will share. In 2012 I will succeed. Well, 2012, it’s your move. Ok, today wasn...
