A Baking Life: that primal, wild part of you

http://abakinglife.thedailymeal.com/2012/10/that-primal-wild-part-of-you.html

That primal, wild part of you. Apple season is coming to an end around here. Maybe it’s just in Maine, but Halloween always feels like the turning point, when the once-vigorous, crisp days of early fall abruptly launch their descent into the truly frigid, gloves-and-hat weather of deep fall. The foliage show is past its peak (and we can usually count on there being at least one big storm. It’s been a busy fall for us, and half of our little family never made it to our local orchard. As I watched them, fi...

A Baking Life: brimming with tradition

http://abakinglife.thedailymeal.com/2012/10/brimming-with-tradition.html

Some notes from around here:. Two of my favorite women each just had a baby, and my family went to The Fair. Though not necessarily in that order, that is certainly how their importance is ranked in my mind.) And they have both, for good reason, put my mind on a children-and-traditions sort of path. And then once I've really fleshed out my own transformation into Mama. Out of the busy whirlwind of early childhood. Their own rambling chatter suggests that they've been paying close attention. And to connec...

A Baking Life: unintended consequences

http://abakinglife.thedailymeal.com/2010/02/unintended-consequences.html

I was sick. So I made a chicken pot pie. Now, this might not sound like the most logical course of events, but let me explain. Becoming an adult does not remove the desire to be comforted when you're ill. (Although it does seem to decrease the odds of that desire being fulfilled. Oh well. Moving on.) So, once the illness fades and you're left with more of a memory. Well, actually, having now made one, I can say definitively that while the scent, flavor, and experience of eating. What was I thinking?

A Baking Life: "those things I love"

http://abakinglife.thedailymeal.com/2012/04/well-would-you-look-at-that.html

Those things I love". Well, would you look at that. I took that photo a month ago, with every intention of casually throwing it up here one afternoon, accompanied by some earnest urging for you to all make waffles the next chance you get, highlighting their amazingness for any of you who haven't found the recipe. On your own as you wade through this blog. Um, yeah, I didn't do that. Instead, I went to work a lot, because I created a new chocolate dessert for the restaurant. Warm, as in 95º warm? And the ...

A Baking Life: i wasn't kidding

http://abakinglife.thedailymeal.com/2012/06/i-wasnt-kidding.html

The full impact of it didn't hit me until the end of the day. Late last Thursday night, talking on the phone with Josh while he closed up the restaurant, I was reflecting on the day we'd just had and remarked on what a crazy. Completely bipolar day it had been. That is never a good way to remember a day. I wasn't kidding when I said the day was bipolar. As challenging as it is to make it through a day like that in one piece, as hard as it can be in the moment to adjust to the pendulum swings of emotion, ...

Avental e Aventuras: Junho 2012

http://aventaleaventuras.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Napless Nora and her new brother!: July 2009

http://naplessnora.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

It's hard to believe that so much of summer has already passed us by. Of course, for those of you who live here, you know it hasn't exactly felt very summer-like in weeks past. Luckily it has finally arrived, and although it's very muggy, I won't complain. As long as it's not pouring I'm a happy camper. Nora is really starting to enjoy school. She still fights the nap big time, and has yet to sleep longer than forty minutes, and usually only twenty. Oh well, at least she's actually falling asleep! Nick a...

Napless Nora and her new brother!: January 2010

http://naplessnora.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

For your viewing pleasure. Just a couple videos of Nora doing her workout. These were taken before Christmas, but I just found them and thought you might enjoy. The noise in the background is the dvd I bought to work out at home with. Now and then Nora asks if she can watch it and I have to search for it. Obviously I use it a lot. Well, I warned you all that a big Christmas post was coming, and amazingly enough I've finished it before Valentine's Day! Well, not a. And of course, shoes. Obviously I didn't...

Healthy and Easy Baking Recipes For Every Kitchen. Dark Chocolate, Blueberry, and Pecan Banana Bread. May 12, 2015. I’ve talked with a lot of people recently who say that studying abroad has changed their lives. They learned things about themselves, or started seeing things from a new perspective, or found what they were passionate about, or finally felt like they were wholly themselves. I learned that just because a city is cold and gray all the time, that doesn’t mean it can’t take your breath away.

Now, of course. This doesn't always bother me. I get a certain bizarre satisfaction from getting everyone up, dressed and fed, along with lunches packed and animals cared for, in 45 minutes.
